Analysis Tom Hawkins - clearly not insignificant !

Hawkins had a few games early on where he played really well but was marked harshly due to inaccuracy (especially at critical moments). Other than that, he's pretty much continued his form from last year imo.

He has his radar back now and looking AA quality again.
Spot on. He was 10.15 after the first five rounds. Has kicked 15.6 in the six games since.

When you look at all round contribution it’s very hard not to make a case for Hawkins but they aren’t going to pick him as a ‘third’ forward or a small, and when it comes to picking the two KPFs goals are a heavily weighted currency so he would need to climb the Coleman rankings to get in I think.
No doubt he’s in the best 2-3 forwards overall across every facet of play but it’s like saying do you pick a batsman at 6 who’s averaging 50 and does nothing else or an all rounder who averages 38 with the bat, 29 with the ball and catches everything that comes to him

I daresay all those balls that were coming in at his feet in the early part of the season are a big reason for all those ground balls... Not Tom's fault though. He does look almost as agile as ever.

The greatest bump thread of all time
Hawk has kicked 287 irrelevant goals and had 116 irrelevant goal assists and taken 218 irrelevant contested marks since the OP.

Tom Hawkins just passed Michael Moncrieff, David Neitz, and (for the time being) Eddie Betts to move into 29th spot on the all-time leading goalkickers' list, with 632 career goals. Alistair Lynch is just one goal ahead.

The best thing about Tom Hawkins career is that the goals themselves only tell part of the story; throughout his extended golden years he's managed to contribute and impact in a number of ways; e.g. the F50 rucking only really became a consistent string to his bow in 2019 AFAICR (< does that fly?) and that added dimension to his game serves to underline Hawkins' ability to develop and refine his game over a long career.

If he could get to 700 goals which is a distinct likelihood, while it would be hard to mount a case that he’s been BETTER than the other 700+ goal forwards, he’s certainly in the discussion as having one of the best all-round skill sets.

Not the best full forward of all time but one of the best forwards line players of all time if that makes sense

Hawkins has indeed elevated himself the past four seasons. It just makes you wonder how much his 2013 back problems ruined the peak years of his career.

he had to completely change his game from being a jumping contested mark beast to someone who could push in one on ones and get on the short lead.

How awesome was Hawkins' game on Friday? Continues somehow at his age to be underrated. Should have been judged bog imo. I think he could very well win the Coleman medal again this year.

He easily could. The race so far is

Tex Walker (Adelaide) 41
Josh Bruce (Bulldogs) 39
Ben King (Suns) 38
Tom Hawkins (Geelong) 37

and there's still a few more rounds to go. He won the Coleman last year with 49 goals.

You forgot McKay who is leading on 46. Can't see Tomahawk making up a 9 goal deficit in the space of 7 rounds.
