He's really not that bad, he's just not that great either. He's fine as depth but wouldn't be sad to see him go for a decentish pick.
On balance we don't have a position for him. He lacks pace to be a winger a Hill type. Trading him for someone with pace should be the main priority.!

A seco

Agree he finds the pill GC but like so many teammates his disposal is very ordinary
Uf as some suggest we could get a second rounder I would jump at it
A good ordinary footballer would be captain blood's description
Think you are jumping too early here. His disposal will be fine going forward for mine. He will develop that as he technically appears a sound kick. We have a few vying for the HB role but he will end up being one of the best few we have. When you consider the question marks on the careers of Ramsay, Sinclair, Scharenberg and Williams our back flank numbers could drop off pretty quickly.

Don't confuse loose man with "high possession winner."
He gets a lot of the ball considering his inexperience and the position he plays. Skill in itself to be able to read the play and be Involved. Certainly a plus for him.

I’d trade him and Maynard for a player that doesn’t get caught with the footy and turn it over.
We all know that Tom will cough up a goal a game, but it's time to start acknowldging that he he will save far more by getting to more contests than any other defender in the league.

I'd look to trade him.
He's intercept work is good but his often caught with the ball with no awareness.
If he doesn't mark, the rest of his game is very average.

He does have a role to play as an intercept defender at the level but we have Howe for that.

Classic Goldy gets them every time.

We do have a surplus of medium-tall defenders, none of which are super quick. I could see him or Sharenberg being traded as part of a deal of some sort -- pick for pick included. I wouldn't think you'd get much for him though - part of a package for Lynch? I'd much rather keep Sharenberg for his composure and skills though.

This thread was started two years ago. Langdon has only gone up in value since then.

Doubt he'll be traded now, the backlne is finally established and with Goldsack injured and 30 and Dunn being over 30 the rest of them are set for a long period of time as a well tuned outfit.

Langdon is the type that when he makes a mistake he makes it in spectacular fashion . But hes effective and the good ouweighs the bad.

Just look at our premiership defence in 2010. Shaw, OBrien, Toovey, Maxwell, N Brown....tell me which of them didnt make clangers at regular intervals? ALL OF THEM DID!!! Maybe Reid the only exception.

Yep Langdon a clear keeper.

Those who don't rate him must be missing the good work. People can read far too much into mistakes. He is part of out younger leadership group for a reason and will be a Pie for a long time. Shaz stepping up in recent weeks and Murray joining the back mix leaves us in a really good place. Shaz and Langdon are developing a real synergy.

I wonder if Moore won't become a permanent member of this mix with time. His little bit of time down back this season has been pretty exciting.

He is a clear best 22 player going on this years form.
He will be part of a solid 6-10 backmen going forward and building a good rapport with Schaz, Murray, Dunn, Howe, Maynard, and hopefully soon McLarty

Keeper for mine

The big reasons people rag on Langdon (misguided but they do) I think is because he appears laconic or nonchalant. Hence they attribute any mistake to lack of intensity and that amps up in any crucial play.
The other reason is that since it’s become somewhat acceptable on bigfooty to give him a spray it hence becomes the norm.

But he’s quite ok, good player. Developing nicely in the whole defensive unit.

We seem to have found a good backline mix atm, both Langdon and Shaz are a part of that. We get enough run from Murray and Crisp
I hope McLarty overtakes Langdon.

No the main reason people bag Langdon is becuase he turns the ball over too much and when he's not he only goes the safe option. The only hurt factor he has is against us.

That was a nice strawman though.

I'd rather Dunn as fullback, McLarty CHB and Scharenberg third tall.

Dunn and Reid won't be around for much longer. We're going to need another tall defender and another tall forward to combine with McClarty and Moore.

I remember our fans getting angry with Lumumba for taking too much on when running out of defence with that high lifting gait of his, and getting caught.

I remember Heater copping it for his brain fades.

Presti for being too one dimensional (see ball, punch ball).

Maxy for not being a superstar.

Defenders are always heavily scrutinised because their mistakes can be fatal. Tommy is just the latest in a long line.
