Every chance that Dusty has a back ended deal. With it being possible we knew we were a chance to get Lynch this year.

Also I'd guess Rance, Cotch and Reiwoldt could be on front loaded contracts. Most of them were signed when we were pretty average list wise.

Lynch at Richmond was never going to happen.

Rance and his comments basically confirms it.

No way we can pay George, Butler, Shorty the money they deserve and fins another $ 1m plus for Lynch.

WILL NOT HAPPEN
I just watched the interview , I don’t believe his comments were as emphatic as what’s been talked about , more about sticking up for his mates that have put the yards in , taking an opposite position would look like a desperate brad Scott on afl 360 that stopped short of saying “come to papa” when asked about dusty 12m ago

Haven't seen it, doubt I missed much, but from what I've read, I don't see that he could have said much different. Can't not answer, and anything he did say was always going to be a headline.

Really all he seems to have said is what most of us have been saying...Sure, he's a good player and that's always good to get into the side, but don't wreak what we have now to get him. It's about as close to 'no comment' as he'd have been able to get away with.

On a side note, not that this guy has much credibility, but according to Brian Waldron and the northern spy
A very high profile afl player and his very high profile manager are in trouble,, due to funds not being given
To player from the manager,,, says may come out in the media next week or so, apparently independent
Auditing is being used by the player to re coup funds,,,, mmmmmmm interesting, who could it be ???

Thought Rance was a little bit over the top in saying we can do without it. Team is flying now but if we come off the boil and lose a prelim because someone plays us different and it becomes apparent we lack a second tall/ruckman, all our views would change pretty quickly.

Club would be doing a disservice if they weren't chasing him. I love the guy, but Rance didn't help that.

Interesting , pretty wide field though and a some high profile managers have found themselves in a court house in recent times

The best argument Ive heard is that you gotta continue to evolve your side , every premiership side is different and the competition is fierce .
If he is happy to arrive on our terms then I’m happy. We can still evolve our side without him with what’s coming through

And as for De Goey ? Ffs I thought the demands for that spud Casboult were bad but De Goey takes the cake.

He was a *** at St Kevin's with problems, and has been a ***** with problems at Scumwood as well. Above all he's a dick of a bloke who has alienated blokes at Scumwood and wouldn't fit into our group and culture.

Let the Scum have him. Who cares. He can Goey and get stuffed !
Seems like every player in the afl comes from one of those grammar schools. The afl has developed such an elitist culture. And yet, as we've seen from guys like De Goey, Greene, Liberatore, their education means absolutely nothing. They're still complete imbeciles. They only got the opportunity to go to these schools because they got sports scholarships or their parents knew someone or both.

Bit of a tangent, but the boys club is a thing. Rant over.

I still believe we overpaid for Prestia let alone Tom Lynch!
Im reading this whole thread and still have 3 pages to go but I have to disagree here. I dont think it matters what any of our player's contracts were last year, or what it took to get that team together(-PEDs), but he was integral to a premiership.

The list last year, all 44 players or however many it is, is the best managed, coached, paid, and the best we've had for 37 years.

He was worth every cent. And always will be.

Geez i laughed when i heard the Tigers are allegedly offering $1.4 mill. We didn't even offer that for Dusty.
Lynch will sign at a club like Richmond for unders and the chance at a flag.
So around $800-900k for 5-6 years.
Jack is 30 next year. Lynch makes sense.
Ignore the wank and hype. The club knows what it's doing.

Besides the fact that when Jack does go some of it will go to lynch as part of the deal.
Same with others.
Cotch>>>Lambert
Rance>>>Rioli
Grigg>>>George & Butler
Houli>>>Vlas
Like a rolling contract.

A couple of weeks ago Rance said he'd be happy with the leadership to sit down with him, if it came about later on and have a chat.
Then recently said in another interview he'd prefer not to see the game plan change to accommodate one player or words to the effect.
...big deal, seems reasonable to me.

Id be surprised if GC will win another four games this year that'll mean 12th at best.
So in 8 years 12th is the highest they've finished. If he leaves it's because he wants to play at the highest level in the biggest games, I don't think it's gonna play out like Carr cleverly building up the value.
I reckon he'd already have a pretty good wedge in his kick.

Given how compo works I wonder if we offered $1.4 mil for 2 seasons then under $1mil for the rest. Compo only works on the first 2 years. So huge $ then much lower. I wonder if the thinking is - 'we can afford crazy $ right now so GC get top compo, and then his salary goes down and we can free up cap space as players get older, and so we can go round again'. Play the system to suit our squad and age profile.
