Because we are handing over more than a player (hall) is worth to better the suns position. While clearly bringing lynch over the line.
My understanding of draft tampering is different. Like the bombers telling Heppell to be severely injured, or Elliot Kavanagh telling other clubs to get ****** in his interviews or Kurt Tippet forcing a clause in his contract guaranteeing a set trade value at any point in the future.

Overpaying at the trade table is as old as the hills. I mean look at Carlton. They've given up all their recent picks for GWS rejects. Did they get value? Nope. Did the AFL intervene?
IIRC they paid a first round pick for Christian Jaksch.

Outside of Buddy and the Swans, who's been a big spend for big return forward in recent years ? Plenty of disasters eg Boyd, Cloke etc. but besides Bud who's really been a great return on investment where big bucks kpfs are concerned ?

Good player, but if we're talking $1.2m per year for Lynch, think I'd rather spend that on a more certain return e.g. gun midfielder like Wines or someone of that ilk.

Boyd got the dogs 1 flag. But their list went to s***t last year.
Buddy is a high profile player that NSW teams need, but no flags.

Would rather get two gun mids that play up forward as well .

I'll be staggered if he doesn't end up at punt road. This has been two years in the making. It's great being the number one destination club.
I think he’ll most likely end up at Punt Rd but it will be interesting to see what happens if we win another flag this year. As you say it’s been 2 years in the making however who would ever have envisaged this success 24 months ago!!

Sounds like the exact attitude we don’t want.

That’s a guy who isn’t willing to buy in for team success. Just looking out for a pay day.

Goes against everything our team stands for.
Dusty nearly did that for us. Could have signed for a lot less than he got.

I'd have to be gassed to look it up. ... See below

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...free-agency-compensation-20180221-p4z16j.html

Key components of the compensation system include:
■A free agent paid $2 million over two years will be ranked higher on the compensation table than one who is paid $3.5 million over four years. The length of contract is only a ‘‘tie-breaker’’ if annual salary is equal to another player. The contract must be at least two years.

So you are right. But only if they need to 'make a decision' on whether to increase or reduce the compo.

So if you load up the first 2 years to above the top 5% of AFL players then you pretty much guarantee a first round compo.
Yeah I think the take away is $ per year, not the over all price.

I think we'll end up with Lynch. I'll be happy about it and I trust the club will structure payments so we can keep all our good players.

I think at the end of this year, we may lose a couple of players but it's destined to happen. The team is fit and its a struggle for players to break into the 22. Most will leave for the opportunity to get more game time.

It's going to be an interesting offseason.

You'r certainly spot on with some of your points there. Especially what Carlton paid for spuds. They were young and taken high in the draft and couldnt get a look in at gws. People just assumed theyd be good enough to play seniors at every other club. Gws isnt and wont be a superpower that no team can beat as we thought a few years ago.

Anyway i think its very easy to connect the dots between what we offer lynch to ensure top compo and then overpay for a bit part player thats in and out of their team. Just imo it looks dodgy and from our end unnecessary.

I think we do have to be a bit creative here because really GC have buckets of cash and no hope as a franchise so they can/will match any offer unless we offer something ludicrous. If want him we will have to pay but imo it would be really bad for team culture (not to mention payment structures) if he was paid more than Dusty. Assuming Dusty is around 1.2/3 Lynch really shouldn't be more than 1.1 at an absolute max. If we're trying to play funny buggers with the compo it is worth noting that even that is easily worth a first round compo. Although given cochrane's form I do reckon he'll want more than that, at least on principle.

I'd also like to see some more dominant performances from Lynch for that pay, worth noting he only kicked 44 last year (after 66 the year before in only 3 more games) and that of his 14 goals this year in 6 games, 8 came against carlton. For us to put all our eggs in his basket with very limited room to move given 2 1 mil+ players he really does have to be a sure thing

We need Lynch to replace Jack, who is 29 and has another 2-3 years as top dog before age starts catching up. Back load Lynch contract to fit him in the salary cap. Our ressie key forwards will be good but none have the star power of Lynch. We should get him despite the Apple cart

Back log his contract
But don’t overpay
Hawthorn built a dynasty getting players to come and stay for success rather then big money.
Add pieces where needed.
I think success, big crowds and having good mates in Prestia and caddy would have us right at the top of his list.
Guy isn’t silly

Anything involving CROATIA & M.City
Upset the ******* apple cart. Would have won by 10 goals with him today.
I see it different.
If we had a clearance machine we win the ball more and get it forward of centre. Imagine how good we will be if we didnt need to load up from half back so much.

We are getting smashed in the clearances just imagine the scores we would pile on if we actually dominated the clearences in games.

Scary stuff IMO
