Gold Coast
Gold Coast always seem hard to predict in the offseason. He's one of their captain and think they'll most likely try to make a stand like they did with JOM.

However taking that emotion out of it, you raise a good point about the compo pick, likely being as good as any potential trade they'll get.

Looking at it from a maximum return they'd be better of taking the compensation pick, however having an agreement in place where they can turn their later second rounders (Essendon and Geelongs ?) into another first. Currently works pretty well with AFL points system, so would pass the sniff test.

Means Goldcoast could walk away with picks 4 and 5 (potentially both the King twins) while having another mid first (Collingwood/Hawks) and late first (West Coast) to also add to their midfield.

Teams haven't really taken full advantage of the free agency compensation, we made a similar deal with Gold Coast a few years back with Brennan's compensation. Every opportunity for a team to do the same.
The king Twins back on the Gold Coast yes please :thumbsu:

Why wouldn't GC match and force a trade .

Pick 6 or 7 is not enough for Lynch .If Collingwood or Hawks won the battle for Lynch they could get 2 top 10 picks, plus a player.
LOL. How could they?

What a fantasy.

If the Suns match in the hope they can get better than the compo Pick they’re currently lined up to get, they should sack their list manager straight up, without question.

JDG & a late first or early second would be more than enough for Lynch. Unfortunately for GC, it’ll be less than that from what I know.

What if JDG agreed to go to GC and Coll and GC did a deal like....
Coll offer a good but not stupid offer to Lynch (say $900k a year for 4 years) and GC agree not to match.
Lynch goes to Coll as FA and GC get top 5 comp pick.
For not matching and driving his price up GC get JDG and Coll 2nd rd pick for WC first pick they got last year.

Coll give JDG and 2nd round pick, get Lynch and pick 20ish.
GC give Lynch and pick 20ish, get JDG, top five pick and Coll 2nd rd pick

To be honest I don't think Degoey want to go to GCS. Isn't it he homesick from GWS so he went to Collingwood.

GONE, looks a magpie man. Unfortunately the wobblers shouldn't have spent that much money on getting wells and mayne. Wells is like 3 yrs for 2 mil or something and mayne getting shitload for doing **** all. Don't think he will get to melbourne as he would b surplus as they already got hogan and mcdonald. We got big bad benny brown, so surplus. Richmond is another possible location as jack riewoldt is getting on. Collingwood is the natural and best destination for club profile and from a needs point of view. St kilda another good option as they have no big name in the forward line since nick riewoldt retired.

Lets say hawthorn and Collingwood both miss finals and finish 9th and 10th.

Alternatively GC look likely to finish 16/15 and would get pick 4 or 5 via compo.

Pick 5
vs
Pick 10 + Pick 14 (2019)

In the Scenario you present if i was GC i would match, #10 is still a very good pick and the 5 pick down grade for another 1st rounder would be worth it but
2 x #14/#15 then the Compo is better IMO

Your post is self explanatory

Beginning of last year Dustin Martin's Value was $800k and thats what he was offered , That is hardly 'Low Balling'

The year he had was probably the best year any player has had in the history of the game winning just about everything possible combined with Free Agency and another club prepared to sell their home all combined to get him an extra $300k.
It was actually $750k and ended up being a reported $1M + .....so your $350k down for the rest of his contract.

Well lets see where you got your numbers from ?

Considering whats being spoken about in regards to players that are on the free agency list this year Dustin Martin Getting $1.15 mil looks like a bargain
for what he delivered last year and to leave over $2mil not to go to north he appears to be smarter than what we gave him for.

But i would like to see what is your source for the $750k as every Richmond website i have read was always $800k

If you call offering 5x800k lowballing.
Lol.
Who shopped him around ?? Not us, and in the end what was were the terms of his contract ??
7 x $1M plus

It was reported your initial offer of Minus $4M ov 5 yrs rumoured to be about $750K a year not the $800k you guys are spruiking.
against $7.7M signed with the help of a last minute dash to new zealand if that's not lowballing then ya uncle is ya auntie .

So you dont have a source but just pulled that number out of your ****

Richmond signed him for $ 8 mil 7 year deal , North had $1.5 mil x 7

Richmonds offer of $800k was at the start of the year so no it was not low balling as nobody was to know the year he was to have

Think it might be an idea to give this up now , it was all discussed all of last year

Hope he does well for you guys as you have spent alot of time on getting him both by the team and the Bigfooty fan club

So what do they give Pies for DeGoey?
Let's say a top 10 pick. In essence Pies get Lynch and top 10 pick for DeGoey. Like it.
Nothing. Put the pies in a position where they are forced to choose between Lynch or De Goey.

That's the whole purpose of the exercise, to place cap pressure back on the raiding club as an attempt to back them off. They attack you, you attack them.

If both clubs decide to let Lynch & DeGoey walk, they both get their target AND a prime compensation pick.

What? We let DeGoey walk to the draft because......

GC want DeGoey they are trading for him. We get Lynch and a first round pick for DeGoey going to GC. As i said if that happened so what from a Pies perspective.

This is probably the best possible goldilocks outcome. Snake mentioned it earlier.

Compo + handshake trade for JDG.

I doubt it happens but as some mentioned stranger things.....

Id take pick 5.

GC crossing there fingers legs toes that hawks and collingwood both miss finals to make any sort of bidding war though. As you mentioned 2 picks outside the top 10 not worth.

Or they accept he is gone and start planing how they will use pick 4/5 and the war chest of picks they currently hold.

Trade/FA/Draft.
