However taking that emotion out of it, you raise a good point about the compo pick, likely being as good as any potential trade they'll get.
Looking at it from a maximum return they'd be better of taking the compensation pick, however having an agreement in place where they can turn their later second rounders (Essendon and Geelongs ?) into another first. Currently works pretty well with AFL points system, so would pass the sniff test.
Means Goldcoast could walk away with picks 4 and 5 (potentially both the King twins) while having another mid first (Collingwood/Hawks) and late first (West Coast) to also add to their midfield.
Teams haven't really taken full advantage of the free agency compensation, we made a similar deal with Gold Coast a few years back with Brennan's compensation. Every opportunity for a team to do the same.
