One thing to remember when suggesting matching an offer, its not just the cash they are matching its the length of contract as well, hawks when Franklin left could've easily matched the dollars, it was the 9 years they didnt want a bar off. GC are not going to match a 5/6 year deal after a player has already told them he is outa there, clubs just dont do it and it is why the matching option will be abolished.

Why is it that whenever we are connected with getting in a free agent the talk is that it will be matched and a trade forced costing us every pick we have
and yet...
when we have a player potentially leaving (eg. Dusty), then they are going via free agency, we're getting nothing for them and there is nothing we can do about it

Absolutely I would. It wouldn’t be the end of the world because of a) our midfield depth and b) great KPP draft, but all in all De Goey is a beast - impact per possession in incredible for someone with such a small tank, his pressure game is elite, he uses it well, kicks plenty of goals and at times he’s genuinely lead our midfield by himself despite the quality guys running around (beating Pendles, Treloar, Sideass and Adams to 5 Brownlow votes of his own at 21 years old is pretty awesome). Last week he had 15 and a goal but his contributions were huge, and he would produce similar to superior results with Richmond’s game plan.

De Goey is a real tease and I think wherever he ends up, he’ll be a top three from his draft and perhaps number one.

I always likened him to Dayne Beams but now I think he won’t win as much ball but will have greater impact per possession. Looks more like a Robbie Gray type nowadays.
