No it wouldn't, the formula got leaked. The contract effectively needs to be in the top 15% of contracts in the league to attract a first round compo. Effectively in the top 6 pay rates at the club at the time.

Now, for Collingwood when they signed Mayne:

All automatically higher you would suspect. I would think Howe and Elliott would be as well.

But it's the top 15% of contracts across the league. There's no way Mayne at $2mil over 4 fits in that bracket.

Elliott is also the second most marketable player on our list behind Treloar. He sells so many jumpers to kids under 15 it's crazy. He could be pushing 600-700k I think.

Yeah but it’s not like Elliot can use his marketability as a bargaining chip with other clubs. He won’t get too much more from Collingwood than he would from other clubs for his playing ability alone - unlike say Fyfe would be hugely marketable for any clubs and hence Freo would have to pay that premium
