The emergence of Long as a hard bodied, midfield beast means there is no need to rush him back. Will be handy in September.
Would likely mean Mitchell can focus less on being the anchor defensively and more on hunting the ball inside, feeding the likes of Sidebottom, Daicos, De Goey etc

Long can be the sweeper and stop offensive thrusts out the front, Mitchell as the in and under and Daicos would be a good trio to have in there. De Goey, Sidebottom and others rotating with dynamic tendencies and skill.

I think that may be a bit beyond Ned at this stage. That's a senior pros role who has to decide when to go, and when to corrall or block off forward runners - Pendles, Perryman, Sidey or Crisp are the most likely for us. Ned's more see ball or player with the ball and barge.

I think people forget how poor Mitchell was before his injury, game looked like it had gone past him. Even in 2023 up until finals he was slow and clumsy. The same people wanting him back into the team are probably the same people who wanted him dropped at the start of last year.

Only way he gets into the team is if Long get injured.

Now them's fighting words 😂

It's awful knowing that some of our oldies will be going, I just hope that it's mostly voluntary retirements.
Coxy is the only one who might volunteer. The rest are liekly to have their hand up to keep playing.

Which then comes the force tap on the shoulder
Unless its through injury or knowing you are done, I'd imagine 90% of players wont not want to go on, which makes it difficult on the club to make decisions for them.

They are all still playing good football so we might not lose any.
Hopefully, some will want to go, just not seeing it at the moment.
Even though they're playing good football, doesn't mean they can all keep that up next year.
Plus I imagine they are all on pretty good money.
Someone has to make room for some of the younger players.

Am sure we all have our favourites, I know who I least want to go but some of them will have to and it will be heartbreaking and not just for them.
:(
I think most of them will get contracts.

Howe, Sidey, Pendles, Checkers, Elliott are all still really crucial and still playing excellent footy.

If we move WHE on it will solely be list spots and to give more opportunity to kids - and I think he'd get an offer elsewhere if he wants to keep playing.

Cox and Titch are the two who will need to do something in the second half of the year - but we might want to keep Cox as ruck depth anyway, as we'd likely to need to find a ruck depth replacement.

Brutal industry. What a career Mitchell has had, but a couple of injuries that probably come down to over work and trying to push through pain and his career is on the line.

That'll be a celebration of an amazing career. I won't find that sad.
definitely a celebration.
Some will find it sad though, but can't fault everything he has given when he decides to end it. I imagine within 12 months.

No doubt we will get him back a few years later in the coaching dept, so not goodbye but just a leave of absence :)
Prob not that soon. He apparantely wants to travel, then coach at a variety different clubs and experiences.
May come back in 5+ years. Could be longer

I guess that makes sense, he has given so much of his life to football. 5 years isn't that long unless you're my age haha.
Haha
Its the best possible thing for him. Get out of the club and given he wants to be a coach, experience different clubs, coaches, experiences to make him a better coach for the future.
He has started this journey since 2022, when he started (and still does in the present) as the midfield coach for Haileybury.

By the time he retires and does a bit of travelling, he might just go straight on the pension.

Pendles obviously has smarts and not just on the footy field.
I see he's already in the wine business :)

How come no one coaches Preston tech?, what good ever came out of Haileybury. ;)
