Can't believe he played his last game at 28, whereas Pendles is almost a certainty to be a best 22 midfielder at 38. Medhurst in 2008 was something elseMedhurst
Malty kept him out of the team for too long, which deprived him of a premiership and killed his career. Life isn't fair.

Of all the 2010 omissions Medhurst hurt me the most. He was the Jamie Elliot of the 00s for us.Medhurst

Not sure Mitchell won't have a role come September, some might be going too early in writing him off.

Yes and of course Presti the other heartbreak.Leon was dropped for the replay too. So many icons of our 2000s teams
Being basically written off before even playing a single game in 12 months. Seems over his foot issues now. So lets see what he has before this board delists him. Hasn't played since Anzac day 2024 & we have 1 inside bull with De Goey missing. I think he is harder at it than anyone with the possible exception of Long & we need more aggression in the middle.
yeah this is what I am getting annoyed at - the attitude that he's done - he's too old.![]()
Like, as wrong as I may have been at the time, at least I was writing of Sidebottom on actual on field performance as opposed to just "out of sight out of mind"

1) he's a fair bit less old than others on the list who are playing career best footy!
2) he's not played since early 2024 season - and the whole side was rubbish then. Really, the last we properly saw of him was 2023 - finals and grand final, so give him a chance to prove himself!
Do not understand those already writing him off. The bloke was elite in his heyday. Was huge for us in 2023. Might be huge for us in the back end of this year and finals. So let's give him a shot!
Completely agree. I reckon there would be plenty of teams who have outside speed but lack inside grunt who would be happy for Mitchell to come over.I don’t think people are writing him off, just questioning where he fits in the side.
This is a question that is yet to be answered.
Mostly yes, some definitely are writing him off.I don’t think people are writing him off, just questioning where he fits in the side.

He's like Jack Macrae or Crouch. He'd still be an important senior player in the right team and get Brownlow votes - but would struggle to make the top midfields. If you're slow and not outstanding with the footy, you're going to struggle to make the top teams with deep midfields - you'd need to be not just good at contest, but awesome.I don’t think people are writing him off, just questioning where he fits in the side.

I reckon he might get a run this week, particularly with Steele under the weather. He's like Jack Macrae or Crouch. Carlton also has a very slow midfield, so it's not a bad matchupI reckon he might get a run this week, particularly with Steele under the weather.
I don’t have to thankfully. It’s nice to have depth though. And if he gets a game, gets 20+ disposals, 5+ tackles, 5+ clearances, and we win, how do you then justify omitting him?

I'd be more inclined to have this view of Titch once he actually gets a chance back in the side
Not really a fan of the way he's being spoken about while he's not even being given an opportunity to actually play (not necessarily by you specifically)
I'm not convinced he's not being brought in because "he doesn't have a spot" or "isn't good enough anymore"
I suspect he's being given time to get 100% right and get the miles in the legs so that when he comes back, he stays back.
Methinks you are stirring the pot.Only at Collingwood do we pin our hopes on a 34yo really slow player who hasn't played for 12 months and is running around the VFL with cement in his boots. I'm happy for him to get a game but if he's shit I'll be coming after you like a thief in the night and I will pull your thunder right from under your feet. We're 3 games clear on top and we still pine for a a bloke who might or might not help us out. Injuries will determine if Mitch gets in let alone hold his spot. He's not the clearance saviour, he's just depth now. Come at me ya campaigners

Btw, he's 32.
I think he'll get some games and is outstanding depth for us. However, even if we get back 2023 Titch - I don't think he played many games above what our current mids are playing. And that was as the most central stoppage player - which is now Nick Daicos which isn't going to change. Obviously his final series being so good is a massive tick though.
For me it's not about "good enough." Titch is still going to be good enough to play AFL in the right role at the right team. Markov would be too. It's about whether they're the best available for us in that role. Or if moving someone who is slightly better in that role strengthens us elsewhere. I just can't see how Titch will improve us as a team.
I've got you in my sights cuz, I'll be coming for you first if he doesn't perform and I'll be expecting the best souvlaki I've ever tastedOk...but why not at least wait for him to be given a chance?
I said myself yesterday that if he comes in and does absolutely nothing? (after at least a few games) then cool, delist/send to the VFL whatever.
But at the very least let him get the chance? Even more so now rather than closer to finals. Find out now rather than leave it late.
Also who is pinning hopes? Most of us just want him in to hopefully help our clearance situation. Who cares if we're winning without being a great clearance side? Imagine how good we could be if we also became decent with clearances? Why not try be good at everything if possible?
As far as I know, there's no rule in the AFL (yet) that says you can't be good offensively, defensively and at stoppage/clearance.
Ahhhhhhh one of those days, will be interesting to see if you get your wish but it won't be from me haha.I'm just in the mood to be abused today. I need the exhilaration
