Happy to see the Rolls Royce out of the garage and on the road again.

Am expecting him to get 15-20 touches, and a handful of tackles and clearances apiece

Believe there is room for him and Long in the same midfield going forward…

with Long able to rotate forward and apply pressure, hardness and his eye for a goal

Mitchell and Long combo to work especially as De Goey looks less and less likely to make an impact in the middle this year

His inclusion should give the boys a huge lift.

That Long thought might be the go. With Beau, Shoota and Bobby out we looked short on defensive pressure forward last week, exaggerated by the 4 talls.

We might see more of Ned in that role and a little of Mitchell there as well to see if they can contribute there.

You know Ned’s going to bring the heat.

Ummmmm West and Long are almost the same height, might be a cm in it, and I’d suggest West has him covered for pace… just saying.

Long has laid 106 tackles in just 15 games. If he does spend some time forward, he will be able to apply pressure to their defenders.

But they do different things. Charlie positions to mark. If Ned plays forward he'll position to hunt the ball or player at ground level,

I think Markov might play forward too. He can hopefully provide that run down pressure.

West ranked 6th for PAs for the Pies against the Weagles off limited game. He brings pressure.

They do, but I was responding to a post that cited 4 talls as a reason we lacked forward pressure, and Long playing forward will redress that. They’re essentially the same height and West is quicker.

West is no slouch when the footy hits the ground either. A lot of his VFL goals or goal assists come from those marking contests where he doesn’t clunk the footy, either through ground ball gets or tackles.

But having one less bloke flying and one more positioning at ground level sure helps in terms of pressure.

Perhaps, perhaps not. The best F50 pressure is marking the footy. I thought West was pretty judicious in his contested marking decisions. Elliott spoiled his best opportunity, West crumbed, West goaled. We’ve seen him do it many times at VFL level. Your premise also requires Long to be good at crumbing. He may well be but it’s not something I recall him doing.

I’m not averse to Long going forward. He has shown reasonable forward craft at VFL level. I was just questioning the “4 talls” rationale. More same-same to me.

No it doesn't. Our smalls aren't all positioning front and centre. We're positioning to be able to receive, cut off an outlet or flash in for a crumb.
