He was 84% disposal efficiency today - that's excellent, and certainly not something that damages us.
DE is an incredibly imperfect stat, as his dump kicks over 40m are “effective”.

I would loathe to see him come September, and think he’s been poor for 75% of his total AFL game time this year. Leaving it at that.

Yep, it’s not even close but some have such a hard on for Ned and they’ve developed a massive hate for Mitchell because of the fear he’ll come back and take his spot.

This is definitely a part of it. Every year BigFooty develops hard-ons for fringe players - even multiple in the same year. Before Ned Long this year it was Reef. Before Reef it was MaCrae. Before MaCrae it was Ash Johnson. There are still people here wishing for the return of Ginni and Ollie Henry.

Ned was fantastic early in the year but his form has dropped right off. Might be the Johnny Noble of this year.

That last one is the biggest Bigfooty hard on of them all!!! Still people think he was unlucky to miss out in 2023…

Geez not sure what the bloke has to do to get people to see how good he still is.

29 disposals at 86% efficiency
7 marks
2 clearances
6 tackles

Played 77% game time. That’s a pretty solid game for a bloke playing his third game back after missing over a year of footy.

Ok, he’s slow. He also twice, showed Pendlebury level composure where he seemed to slow time down around him. They don’t all have to be quick.

It was vintage Mitchell in a way - plenty of disposals, no damage

Heard the same said about Luke Ball and Dane Swan plenty of times … Usually from opposing supporters though.
Did you actually? That’s quite laughable.

I was stirring, but I am quite baffled that people thought Mitchell played well unless they only watched the last quarter

The 2 times he showed Pendlebury level composure are not enough to compensate for his lack of pace, indecision and continuous disruption of fwd momentum due to his hesitancy.
I accept his last QTR was an improvement but I’m keeping Long given he’s rated 6th for score involvements in the AFL. He had 10 today Mitchell had 4.

Give me touches that lead to scores and I’m sold.

I’m ok with playing both him and Long for now.

This is where I’m coming around to as well I reckon. If we have a fit team for September I think a midfield rotation of Nick / Pendles / Jordy / Josh with pinch hitting from Beau, Crisp & Sidey/Pez is the way to go.
Me too. You've got to score when you're out on a dangerous chain. The first half really frustrated me today - it kept on being Titch, Long and Allan who got it when we were out.

He has to be Ned Long.

You’re arguing with people here who are convinced Mitchell got dropped even though Fly said he was being rested. Then refused to believe Mitchell was playing this week even though Fly said Mitchell was coming back in.

End of the day what we think don’t matter. We can trust Fly to play the right players.

Mitchell has played three games this year for 26, 21, 29 touches, mostly in the coalface. With high tackle counts as well.

I would have loved to have had him last week to sit on Serong and probably save us the game.

That was Titch at the end of his Hawthorn days and why he was moved on. He's such a smart player that he'll always know where to run to receive the footy - but we don't want Mitchell getting 23 uncontested possessions and only 6 contested ones - with only 2 clearances, because his outside possessions have no impact.

You could be right in terms of a defensive role at stoppage.

It’s part of my issue with Titch. He works hard, and knows exactly where to be, thus always getting the footy right when we need someone who can do something quickly

Would like to know his DE when actually kicking the ball forward, done 1 good inside 50 in the last, but a lot a his disposals are just dump kicks. His DE is on the high side because the amount of times he chips it sideways or even backwards. When he gets the ball in general play, it slows down our movement.
If he is in the side, needs to be first possession, not a link in the chain possession . Same goes for Long.

And he performs in finals under the real heat of September when the pressure is red hot.

It goes both ways= he also wins possession in tight situations and feeds it out to our runners. He slowed up today when there was nothing to go to- a blind kick is useless. He hit players on the lead a few times.

Was very good today and he will only improve with more games under his belt hopefully. His kicking lacks penetration but is accurate. He gets in and under to get the ball but he can be found out by faster players at times on the outside. He is not perfect but he is playing well enough to keep his spot atm.
