Preview Tom Mitchell out for 2019 with broken leg

I have seen it reported online that Mitchell broke both tibia and fibula. Hence why he will miss the whole season.
That sounds borderline career-threatening. Hope he can make a full recovery. Always s**t news to see blokes go down for very long periods.

This is terrible news... bloody great player of the game out for the season.

The hawks will still be competitive without him as they are just too good a club not to be.

Preseaon is horrid isnt it... as supporters we sit around with our fingers crossed that there’s no bad news like this for any players at our clubs..

Its just another reason why we all want to just get to round 1 of the season ASAP and forgo all of these months of sitting around waiting and hoping no bad injury news emerges.

That's going to **** his 2020 as well.

IF it's a broken tibula and fibula than you are unfortunately correct... fyfe and Nathan brown good examples... hawks will lose Burgoyne at the end of 2019 and their second best midfielder, Omera still has questions marks over his fitness after failing to finish last season...he really needs to play a full season...really need to hope worpel, howe and cousins can come on and become solid AFL footballers because the Hawks midfield is in for a world of pain over the next few years if they don't.

Terrible news for Mitchell. Hawthorn and football in general.

Will be interesting to see how the Hawks go this season. West Coast lost NicNat and Gaff and still one the GF so wouldn't be writing them off just yet.

Us walking into the 2019 AFL draft with pick 1

We've found gems from the 30's-80's....

Imagine what Hawthorn could do with pick 1. The best player to ever play the game ? :D

Kane Cornes and Nicky Dal Santo would be spewing!!

Mitchell has literally carried this team for the past two seasons...other hawks fans will argue and say it isn't true but it is... he is arguably the #1 player any team could ill-afford to lose....this hawks' team midfield is not exactly top tier and filled with good depth...the starting midfield this season will now be Omera, shiels and worpel... compare that to every other team's top 3 and other than the Suns, it's arguably the worst starting midfield in the league...his injury will have a huge affect on the team this season....he is irreplaceable

You think differently to most Hawks.

Horrible news.

Only positive if you can call it that is the wording coming from his club.

"For Tom to suffer an injury like this is incredibly disappointing for both him and our footy club," Hawthorn football manager Graham Wright said.

"He will undergo surgery over the weekend and as a result will most likely miss the 2019 season."

Hopefully it's the sort of break where he has surgery, is off it for a while and then back walking and running before too long. Missing the 2019 season means not being fully fit to play in August/September. If that's the outcome it's not the end of the world. You just hope it's not a case of battling to be ready by March/April next year.

Arguably the most important player to any team in the league (with the possible exception of Cripps and Fyfe) and generates and metric s**t tonne of play for the Hawks both as a ball-winner and link-up option.

Interesting to see how Hawthorn go without him.

Does anyone know how it happened, if he's broken the tibia and fibia it's akin to a car accident type injury. He might be out til round 8 2020 if I'm reading things right.

Awful for Tom. Very unlucky and will be missed for whatever period he is out.

In other news, if you haven't loaded up on the Crows to win Round 1 there isstill time. Its been smashed to 1.46 but thats still good value.

Hawthorn to miss the top 8 is nice @ 1.70 but this only for big punters.
