I think you are right I remember reading that they would have needed him to enter the draft for GWS to recruit him.
 
not sure if there is any truth to this but i got it from a reasonably reliable source, but apparent GWS were offering Mitchell's dad (freo assistant coach) $1mill over for 3 seasons if Tom Mitchell signed with them.

Also, apparently we are very close to signing Joe Daniher to father/son as well... which came as quite a surprise to me, thought essendon would get him for sure. He will be a gun also.

I doubt GWS will get Tom Mitchell, I think he's a Swan for life, by the sounds of things.

I thought Essendon would have been a odds-on favourite to get Joe Daniher? Would be great to get him, what type of player is he?

Joe Daniher? Oh sweet Jesus that would be a absolute riot if we got him next year.

Daniher's a KPP standing at 198cm. IIRC he was all australian CHB/CHF for the U/16 titles earlier this year (though I could be wrong) and booted a bag in a few games at the championships. Also, can be used in the ruck.

Yeah, there was an article a while back about how Sheeds wanted Tom Mitchell, and in the same breath mentioned that he had contacted his dad about a job at GWS, but no figure was named.

Very interested to hear about Joe Daniher. Oddly enough, the other night I had a dream that I read on BF he wanted to come to Sydney. Something about Essendon having a bad culture, him liking to surf, and wanting to work under John Longmire. I woke up in that sort of state where you're not quite sure if it was a dream or not, logged onto BF and was rather disappointed!

By the way, can you reveal your source? It's not like it's top-secret info, everybody knows that Sheeds wanted the Mitchells at GWS, and that Joe Daniher is eligible for F/S, just not in the detail that you gave.

Anyway, it would be absolutely fantastic if true. Is he eligible for the 2011 draft? Or would we be waiting for 2012?

Sounds like an exciting prospect. I hope we do get him, we're due for a bit of luck with the Father-Son Rule. :thumbsu:

now word of a lie, I said exactly the same thing...jeez, what a coup if we got Daniher as well, but I think i read he is already training with Essendon..i think..

On the Essendon board they seem confident that he will join his brother at Essendon and i expect the same however he has alot of interest from us, GWS and Essendon. He would need to end up at one of the three.( I believe if he picks GWS he would then need to be traded again).


The only way i see him joining the swans would be if he is concerned about the stability of Essendon or the lack of proper trainers, facilities, is upset at how his brother has been treated or sees Sydney as having a better future/ more oportunities afterall he is a melbourne boy whose brother has aready picked Essendon over Sydney

nah i do have source, just a mate who works down at afl hq in melbourne who tends to hear a lot of info through there. he is actually also an essendon supporter, can't say i know much more than that.. but it doesn't seem like darcy daniher is having the best time at essendon so that might be an influencing factor.

i hope its true, this would be massive for us
 
On 3AW Hanners said that the Swans organised him, Kizza, Rohan and a few of the young guys to meet up and talk to Tom Mitchell and work him over basically. :D

I think Healy also said that he recently spoke to Barry, and that Tom was looking forward to coming to us. Well, Tom I'm looking forward to your contribution to our impending dynasty. :cool:

You know, I was just thinking.... it may be worth a small flutter on Reid for the RS. He was super-impressive against Brissie, and a preseason in the weights room and on the sand dunes could start to make the most out of that whopping great frame of his, and get him up to senior-level fitness.

I'm fairly sure Mitchell has come down and trained with the Swans in the past, even before he signed with us, but that does seem to be a grey area.
