Analysis Tom Mitchell

So who does he come in for ? Its not enough to simply say he should be in - you have to tip someone ou

Agree with the Goodes point, overall.

Also think Rohan is playing kind of an indeterminate role at the moment, particularly with McVeigh back in the side, and presumably playing across HB.
As you said, Rohan sort of floats around Half Back, Wing, and Half Forward. Towers can do that, too. Do you need both, really? Do we actually need that speedy HF/FP player? Mitchell's gone ok playing in the pocket, and Kennedy is handy rested in the forward line, too. If Mitchell is in the side and can give Kennedy more of a time to park himself up forward, do we gain more that way than we lose with a bit of a loss of speed?

I'm thinking out loud here.

I think you are right in part. Except Towers (and McGlynn) play principally forward of centre pushing back into midfield.

Rohan's main asset is his pace - he reminds me of a cheetah when he chases and tackles. That asset can be used at either end of the ground and is really about pressure acts. I think the thing is if goodes and tippett are both playing in the forward line you just have to have a speedy player there as well. so if goodes isnt playing other things may change.

In terms of field position, last week Rohan got his possessions about evenly between the top of defensive 50 and the left half forward flank area.

(AFL phone app has individual player heat maps for subscribers.)

I think it's more likely for Mitchell to come into the midfield, McVeigh to go to the back flank and Shaw to make way ... but again, that doesn't seem awfully fair as Shaw was one of the few that showed up in the first half. If his form tails off though, that's what I'd be thinking.

I read his own words, it says absolutely nothing about form. What you're now saying is that, despite a lack of fitness, he was repeatedly and consistently best on ground in the reserves plus performed well in all but 1 senior game (which was sub affected), and that this evidence somehow supports him not being in form?

Unfit and still better than everyone in the Reserves, and many of the seniors when picked? Sounds like great form to me.

How is not being able to run not saying anything about form ? Mitchell battled with injuries and had a frustrating year. He worked his way back, got some stunners in the NEAFL and up to a standard where he was selected for seniors. Good on him I say. You seem to think I'm knocking Tom but I'm doing quite the opposite. He showed great grit and courage in adversity. I think he's fantastic.

Tommy deserves a chance to prove himself. Although i think he needs to go to the reserves and show that he needs to be picked. I am certain thats what he will do.

If there ever was a mid season loan he would be the perfect candidate for it.

Forgotten man...or great midfield depth? He'd get a senior game in most other teams best 22.

When you think about it the coaching staff picked a player who was coming off a PCL to a guy who just had 29 disposals 13 tackles and was almost BOG.

Probably puts things in perspective in my opinion the coaching staff see Tom Mitchell at this stage a very expensive surplus to our needs.

I said from the start of 2015 Tom Mitchell will only get a game if they are injuries.

We'll give you Bryce Squibbs for Tommy Mitchell

Cool thanks, see ya then ;)

That sucks but he's really just a casualty of the emergence of Parker.

Hey guys I have Mitchell in my Ultimate Footy side so I'm wondering if I can get a tl;dr/rundown as to why he hasn't been playing and if I should trade him out? Cheers for any help!

Trade him

Don't think he'll have a game in the next month?

If we lose multiple games in a row or get massive injuries

Mcglynn is next in though is my guess

Gibbs without a tag...where do I sign? The bloke is an out and out gun.

Unfortunately he shoots blanks far too often. Pass.

We cannot trade for players this year can we?

He cops the tag at Carlton. Put him in our side minus the tag, and he'd rip it.

We can trade this year, forget the rules though, think it is up to 300K per season I think. So the Laidler types would be fine....which is annoying as we could have easily got Patfull for that last year

We can only trade for players on a below average (non draftee) salary. Which means a player on less than what Mitchell is being paid.

I don't mind that though, it is the Laidler types we should be targeting. We have enough at the top end.
