Analysis Tom Mitchell

He wasn't that bad as a small forward in 2013 iirc

Maybe that is his position fact is we have Parker, Heeney, Dunkley, Mills all to fit in the midfield in the next 3 years..he needs to show more than being a rover

Parker does not need to play as an inside midfielder and it really isn't his forte either. Also you can have more than 2 inside midfielders.

Parker plays both plus he goes forward and he gets clearances.

Yeah but inside mid is his best position. Shouldn't we play the best players for the best positions? Have him in the middle, or resting up forward to rove under Tippett. Or be a defensive forward. There is a spot for him in the side.

This whinging over Mitchell when he was pathetic in the trials? Maybe he should actually play well when there is a position up for grabs..
But he was not pathetic. I think that is a completely erroneous judgment.

In 2014 Mitchell was better in clearances than Bird, Jack, McVeigh etc. From **** all game time and not getting a consistent run. And allegedly unfit.
His stats line up against anyone's.

Might be an idea if we pick some guys that can, you know, play football to try and win a game. Novel idea of course.

All the pace and bullshit in the world didn't do a whole lot last game.

We could have used a footy player against the Hawks

Why is Towers getting a game over Mitchell? Towers was spudding it up, even though Membrey was a better option and look how that turned out...

I have come to the conclusion that we see Mitchell as a surplus to our team not a requirement.
It makes me cry at night. Well amongst lots of other things.

Different position and Towers had quite a decent NAB cup.
Would prefer Mitchell rotating through the midfield and forward line than having Towers in the side. We don't play a 6-man forward line anyways.

Yep 16 tackles against Richmond or something?

13 tackles which was a career high for him (and a career high that is higher than all our midfielders bar Kennedy who also has a career high of 13 tackles). In 2014 Mitchell played in 6 games (as the sub several times) and he averaged 5.7 tackles per game (despite being the sub for at least 2 games).

Now lets compare that 5.7 to our other midfielders

McVeigh - 4.4 tackles
Kennedy - 5.7 tackles (never started as the sub)
Jack - 5.5 tackles
Parker - 6 tackles
Hannebery - 5 tackles

To play small forward you need to kick. He can't and has proven this before when played in this role that he is a liability there.

Yes he should play and though the middle at that, but he can't do that for an entire match - he needs a second position and thats the issue as I see it. Most likely why he played away from the middle during the NAB Cup.

Priddis doesn't play a second position. He just wins a shitload of clearances, contested possessions, and tackles like a demon.

He doesn't need to **** around as a small forward and neither does Mitchell.
