Mitchell's not even named as an emergency this week - let the meltdown commence!...

Edit: Ah, I see it already has in the Port thread.

Yeah with no footy last week he was never going to come in

Thats the hardest thing about emergancies. Majority of the time you miss a week and if no one plays particularly bad you find yourself in mitchell's situation where you have to go find match fitness. Being left out of the last nab game did not help his cause either

Funny that, mitchell will probably be sub in the ressies

If Mitchell is the guy i think he is, he'll not be sitting on his butt feeling sorry for himself. I expect him to rip into the ressies. My gut feeling is Horse is deliberately raising the bar very high. Tom could play in most any midfield and keep his place in a team without ever playing at his full potential. If Horse can get him to push himself to stellar heights, make him nervous about his spot when he does get one and drive him to be his very best then it's a win for Mitchell and a win for the team. If Kirk can get delisted and work his way back to Captain the Swans then Mitchell has a role model he can follow. I'd like nothing more than to see Tom smash down the walls and force his way into the team. In the interim, having Mitchell outside the 22 sure puts a lot of pressure on his fellow mids. That pressure for spots will be a big driver for us this year.

Mitchell would have just about had enough now. He will definitely go in the off-season if he doesn't secure himself a spot in our "best" 18 by the second half of the year. This could come back to bite Longmire on the arse. Personally I don't know what he's thinking and I think Goodes is a greedy campaigner for playing on again. I'd even put him in front of Bird and Towers.

It's not the time for Horse to **** around. We need our best 22 out there, period. No time to **** around for making blokes work harder when Mitchell is racking up 50+ possessions each week in the ressies. We won't have him next season because of Horses antics.

I don't see Tom as a quitter. He'd see the challenge and would not look back until he overcame it. The guy wants to play for the Swans, big time.

Well he won't if he's stuck in the ressies for another season i can tell you that. before you know he'd have used up all of his prime in 2nd div

Tom's a long way from his prime. Late 20s is prime if Brownlow votes are anything to go by. I don't see him stuck in the pressies. He lost a lot of form last year and had to battle back. I don't think there's anything personal in Tom playing in the ressies. I imagine Horse takes a very keen interest in where Mitchell is at. Maybe someone else would feel frustrated in his position but I think he's got more character than that. He strikes me as someone who understands deferred gratification.

Tom will be fine. I have no doubt he knows exactly what he needs to do. He could have taken the easy road and taken an offer last season, but he obviously wants to force his way into the team and I have little doubt he will achieve it.

He will light up he reserves and force his way in. He is not slow (but not fast) but he is an elite inside player (*to be)both as a tackler and getting clean hands on the ball and distributing outside.

I personally think that Kennedy, Parker and Mitchell are all very different inside players that complement each other. I would have two in the centre square at any one time and one up forward. Parker and Mitchell in particular would provide good forward pressure whilst Kennedy and Parker are exceptional overhead.

I think when Goodes moves on, Rohan moves to his role with Parker/Mitchell/Kennedy/KJack/Mcglynn/Heeney/Cunningham etc providing forward pressure (as well as rotating through the midfield and should prove to be a dynamic forward line with Tippett and Franklin.
