Not bagging the game style either. I think when we play to the standard the coaches want it is a winning fomula. Mitchell is player sort of stuck in the middle. Highly rated in and outside the club but cant force his way in atm with the senior team playing well. If he comes in it will be like for like. Craig Bird is the only one coming out if it is based on form but Birdy is playing well. Parker and Kennedy only if injuries occur. I feel for him but he is a resilient guy. This year will definately show his character cause we all know what his playing capabilities are.

Bird is a tricky one as he is probably the only genuine tagging option. I always like to look forward and say we are up against Freo or Hawthorn. I'd be hesitant to go head to head against every Hawthorn or Freo mid. I would want to tag at least one of them. That sort of means we need 1 of Cunningham/Bird, and even though he needs to work on his foot skills (just generally taking the right option in his case), we need him against the top sides. We need someone on Hill or Fyfe. We need someone on Mitchell/Smith, etc.

If Michell can tag an opponent and negate his influence as good as Bird then bring him in. or if he can come in as a HF and bob up for two goals and get a minimun of 5 tackles in our forward half bring him in.

If anything we have awesome depth and the players in our best 22 shouldnt become complacent cause the next guy waiting to step up will almost definately do the job. In this case Mitchell is that next guy.

I'd be scared if Mitchell is tagging, can you imagine him against Fyfe/Hill or Issac Smith? All 3 would burn him for pace. Bird isn't electric but he has enough tools to be effective against these players. You need a negating midfielder against the real top sides. They have too many weapons to go head to head on everyone.

I agree that he isn't the quickest bloke but as i said IF he can do it. Dont know if he could but we wouldn't know if he isnt being taught properly. Idealy Mitchell is best at the bottom of the packs but he is not going to push our other boys out atm. We still have 20 something games left to go though.

Another idea though maybe Mitchell for Goodes. I think Mitchell would be a better asset than Goodes right now but finals are a whole different story.

You think Goodes > Mitchell for finals?

There is merit of Mitchell as a sub, but that is probably it in a full strength side. We aren't carrying three insides, and we still have to fit McGlynn in somewhere.

In those crunch games where both teams are neck and neck and both at 100% i think Mitchell would be great as a sub. Release Kennedy and Parker into the forward line to give them a "rest". Both are quite damaging and no doubt the would apply good defensive forward pressure.

So long as we are not carrying others, meaning on form no Goodes. Prefer Parker to JPK going forward though

Not if it's a key back we need and not if we are trading out someone the calibre of Mitchell.

He has played 20 games, let's not pretend he's Ablett. I agree he is quality but we can easily get a good KPD forbthat price maybe not Rance but a good one

I can realistically only see Mitchell pushing Bird or Lloyd out... don't ask me why, I can't think of good enough reasons, maybe I just don't like the look of em?

What about a second round pick (which is looming to be in the low 20's)? Considering it looks like he wont play more than a dozen games this year and the club can't really toot his horn they're choosing not to play him, I reckon a pick in the 20--25 range is more than fair.

(My earlier Bryce Squibbs comment was made in anger, wouldn't give him up for anything less than a top 10 pick).

Carlton offered pick 4 last year. Why would the Swans accept anything less than that? People can say that he isn't breaking into our 22 but he would be an automatic inclusion in any other team (other than Hawthorn maybe until Mitchell retires).

Pretty sure they had pick six and not sure that was on offer regardless.

You know nothing, Jon Sn......Lakeside Swan

True, Bird's pace isn't electric but he's clever and his ability to hurt his opponent in attack makes them nervous (Look at Boak, Bird shuts down his game and gets a heap more kicks himself). Let him anywhere near the 50 and he'll sneak off and pop up with a goal. I can't count the number of times Bird has found himself in space and taken a mark inside 50 while his opponent is left wondering where his tag went.

Given the Swans' emphasis on flexibility I expect Mitchell will do some run with roles and learn some of the tricks of the trade. Let's not forget he's still doing his apprenticeship and the Swans will bring out his very best.

Imagine bird on fyfe would get killed

Mitchell is pigeoned holed as a one trick pony

Give him a chance and he will reward us, i think he has the talent to be one of our best midfielders

Rather see Parker vs Fyfe again. That match up was pure sex last time

Best way to take fyfe on

I think pure taggers are going to fade from the game
