Better or close to equal by foot with in no order

Bird
Hannebery
Parker
Jpk..not far off his goal kicking is better than field kicking
Shaw
Reid
Mcglynn
List needs a lot more Pyke. He had a reputation as a good kick for goal, but that was because he was either marking in the goalsquare or getting a free from a ball up 10m out. Now he has to kick from range and has to field-kick more often, it's obvious why someone is always running around for the hand-off.

I had my daughter jumping all over me was under the pump

pyke usually handballs but his kicking is pretty average, better when he has no time to think.

Grundy and Rampe also shank a few

I think we're fortunate to have Tom as depth. We run 3 inside mids who get pounded every week in the engine room of a high pressure, high stoppage team, so naturally we keep a full-sized spare (not a space saver or an aerosol can). If he can't handle that and requests a trade that's unfortunate but we'll get good coin for him. In the meantime we have a very handy inclusion who can slot straight into seniors football should we need him.

I thought at the end of last year that Mitchell would over take Craig Bird in the inside 3. I do not believe that Longmire will ever change the current midfield balance. Bird has proved to be too strong and too reliable.

I'm not sure of the rumour that Carlton offered pick 6 for Mitchell at the end of 2014. It would have been a good deal for the Swans and Mitchell based on the current outcome. Mitchell obviously wanted to stay and was on good money. Mitchell must have known about Longmires midfield system and would have backed himself to overcome Bird.

I'm convinced, regardless of NEAFL performance, that Mitchell won't play senor football in 2015 if Kennedy, Parker and Bird don't miss any games through injury.

If this were to happen, no club would offer and less than pick 25 - 35 for him.

It's also conceivable Heeney will be part of the inside three at the start of 2016, which would start to push Bird out as well.

They would then give Heeney's current forward role to either Towers full time or they would bring in Mills or Dunkley to play it.

Sensible and well thought out post Greg. I see your reasoning in the first part, it's quite possible, though I expect Mitchell will get 4 or 5 games this year at least. For his own sake he'll need to grab those opportunities when (and if) they arrive. A few great games won't hurt his options going forward.

As for Heeney pushing Bird out, I don't know if they'd end up vying for the same position. Bird had an injury riddled early career and I expect the next few years will show us his best football. Some on this board don't rate him highly, though his form this year is swinging even the doubters, but he is certainly rated outside of the club. In his latter years we may well see him move to another role (as opposed to being pushed out). He's got a great knack of popping up inside 50, marks well overhead for his size, can apply real pressure and is a good kick for goal. He could well do a Jude in his late career.

I think we're lucky to have the depth of excellent mids that we have. Heeney will do his apprenticeship playing forward before picking up a mid/forward role and we'll see how he goes from there. Is he suited to playing as an inside mid ? Probably, but Horse may have other plans for him (and other holes that need filling). I could see him playing off half-back or as an outside mid. Given the flexibility required of modern footballers he's likely to learn a few trades. Bird's ability to play a 20+ possession offensive game while tagging is also a handy skill. I could see someone trying to shake off a determined Heeney and having a very bad day at the office. Heeney doesn't seem to mind getting into someone's face.

In the end I don't have crystal balls. Anything could happen. JPK could get hit by Buddy's car, being driven by Hanners who gets distracted by a Goodes for PM poster while Rampe styles his hair and puffs a *** in the back. Exit JPK (State Funeral), enter Tom Mitchell !

You post a lot of unsubstantiated fluff in here and have never backed anything up with hard evidence. I was responding to a poster that said Kennedy never demonstrated the same ball winning ability as Mitchell. I demonstrated immediately that it was incorrect, and my post was directly relevant to the post I was quoting. You were as usual quick to hop in and fire off your 1 cent - "disposals, smischosals" which neither addresses the topic being discussed nor contributes anything to the thread.

You're putting words in my mouth. That's not what I said. I said; "No one thought, especially Hawthorn, that Kennedy would reach the heights that he has with us." Where did I say; "Kennedy never demonstrated the same ball winning ability as Mitchell"? I didn't.

The fact that Mitchell and Kennedy have the same average possessions per game means diddly squat in my arguement. Mitchell was touted as a top 5 draft pick when we drafted him. Don't you recall the headlines stating this? Do you think that at the time of drafting Kennedy that we, or anyone, thought that he would be our best player (up until Buddy's arrival)?

He had 74638 possesions at 100% efficency and EVERY clearance for the game. He was That far under the packs the crowd thought he was the beaver from caddy shack.

Been neither yay or nay regarding Mitchell's selection in first but off the back of displaying his two way running and accumulation (yes, I know GC res suck) it is time for him to be called up for this match with either Heeney or McGlynn to make way

1 goal 4...seriously. It is the area he needs improving change that to 3 goals 1 and you have an outstanding rounded game. However I'd still rather him than mcGlynn!

Do you have any context of the behinds?

Impossibly harsh to say he needs to improve it without knowing exactly how they happened.

Anyway won't matter. 40 touches is not going to cut it.

1 goal 4 isn't a great return whatever way you spin it. That said I am all for anyone playing ahead of McGlynn, I'm over him being an automatic best 21 player despite very little performances except his 'toughness'.
