Analysis Tom Mitchell

If a player not named Mitchell picked up 40 in the ressies and the seniors lost a game having been spanked in the midfield when the game was truly on the line would he get a look in the week after?

That would depend on whether the players ahead if him played well in the loss to Freo.

If say, this person was competing against Kennedy, parks n Bird, then perhaps not.

I would say though. The way the clearances wen early in the Freo match it didn't do Mitchs chances any harm.

Although not sure how effective a short mid would have gone against freos giants

Anyone think that we keep him that Extra year for mills/dunkley etc. totally wrong if we're to be , just a thought

Doubt it, we need to find someone with value for the Mills picks. Ideally yes though.

Mitchell was never going to be traded last year, it was just speculation.

The other question I have, is if Carlton gave us pick 6 last year. Would we have had to hand that over for heeney? Trading Mitchell in that case would have been a raping

No. Trading is after the bid process.

I'm surprised no Tom Mitchell advocate has yet used the Freo - Crowley situation yet as an argument for his inclusion. Crowley, inadvertently, has been banished from the side and they have benefited nicely from it with the likes of the offensively and clearance-wise gifted Neale - although he did nothing against us - taking a step up in his development and the side generally becoming a more lethal attacking side without seeing much of a real defensive slide, in the stats and numbers at least.

I'm not sure we can safely assume that our side would see such an increase in output if we dropped the strongly performing Craig Bird for Mitchell, but it's a more interesting discussion with the current Crowley situation to consider as well.

The bird brigade wont let you suggest he go

He has had a good year so far, not just stopping but getting the ball

By "bird brigade" don't you mean thoughtful posters who watch the game critically and raise logical, justified conclusions based on Craigs output & impact on the game in keeping perfectly with his role???

Bird is playing well and deserves his spot. I wonder at what point in the season that Mitchell will hit the tipping point.

The Longmire strategy appears to be that Mitchell will only play if one of Bird, Parker or Kennedy is unavailable. What happens if Tom keeps putting together 40 possession, 10 tackle games over the next 8 weeks and is still not selected in the seniors?

How many games does he need to play in the seniors, not to entertain a trade at the end of 2015?

Precisely nothing.

Stats are irrelevant at this point he is considered midfield depth(expensive sure) do you think Tom doesn't know this or is mystified as to why he is not getting a game?

As of late 2014 he had absolutely no intention of requesting a trade and it was the last thing on his mind so i would guess he and the club know exactly what the situation is.

however a footy career can be short\cruel (see Fitzy) so this year is make or move for Tom IMHO

Best 22 elsewhere >>> NEAFL career

You think Mitchell is D grade then ? Bit harsh. I rate both players better.

No i think mitchell is a better footballer

But I am not saying drop bird

Please dont card for being a troll, take of this what you will.

I am friends with one of his cousins, I wont mention who. He stated that Mitchell was leaving at the end of the year, which is apparently why he is not being played.

Pisses me off because he is in my Ultimate Footy Draft team. He racks it up and doesnt get a look in. This could be why. If he doesnt play this week, Im gonna drop him!

Why not leave last year then?

I don't think he is yet but he might well be eventually if draft order means anything (then again based on track record ..........)

He has been better when played

They aren't directly comparable as they play different roles. Tom Mitchell is a better inside midfielder, Craig Bird is better at tagging the opposition's 2nd-3rd best midfielder.

To be honest, I have no idea. Will try and find out though, Im not close very close with him.....yet. lol
I can understand him not being played cause he wants to move but the time to move was last year. Don't know why he didn't then

Mainly....we may need him for the Mills situation. Plus he is at worst, great depth.

I hadn't though of that actually. Good point. Tom Mitchell might be a very useful asset when it comes to securing both Mills and Dunkley (should the latter nominate us as his club of choice).
