Analysis Tom Mitchell

When he does kick out of a stoppage it is almost always straight to the opposition so thank *$^# he rarely does it.

I was trying to be polite, his kicking is terrible. Not only is his kicking terrible but he seems to take an eternity after taking a mark, then kicks it all of 15 metres to the bloke standing 20 metres in the clear. 100% efficiency. :thumbsu::rolleyes:

Opposition game plan, lock up the stoppage, make Swans panic, force them to kick...we'll build a wall...derrr!

So it's not Mitchell's fault for kicking it straight to the opposition?
No! Absolutely no! What, do you think he grabs the ball and first thought is 'kick it to the opposition'? Do you not think that his strength is extracting and disposing the ball ball by hand? Of course the opposition are going to want to pressure him and force him to dispose by foot...the wall is waiting! Wow, makes me wonder whether you've played this game as this pressure/play has been employed for...well...ever!

His handball is good but not better than anyone else in the Swans. We're the handball kings. Tom hits some nice quick ones, he misses a few and he handballs hospital passes sometimes, like anyone in the Swans. Jetta's still my best as his handballs go 15-20 metres to guys in space. Mitchell will get better with experience. He's got talent. Experienced and talented players make the game seem to stop around them while they assess the options.

Personally, I think we handball far too much at stoppages. We do 4 or 5 quick handballs and, if we don't turn it over, we bomb it long. Might as well just bomb it long and at least get the turnover in our forward 50 (and a stat for the clearance). Who knows, our forwards may be playing in front and actually mark the thing.

Blind kicks are his specialty. Look at his under 18 video, brilliant hands but as soon as he kicks out comes the 'up and under'. (Goto 0.25 for the first example)
You can make all the excuses for him that you can think of but as an AFL standard player his kicking should be miles better than it is. That is not to say he should be dropped or anything like that, but it is delusional to say that Mitchell's kicking is anywhere near the standard of the rest of his game, it is in fact a glaringly obvious and massive shortcoming.

There is a video of him at 3 years of age, falls off his little tricycle, it is as relevant as this ancient vid you dug up

Where did I state this? You're the one being delusional!

Actually I was refuting the point that Mitchell's kicking straight to the opposition was a result of something other than his poor kicking.
The video provides some evidence that his kicking has not really improved since his junior days. But of course, I am not allowed to criticise Mitchell, he is perfect and hard done by and should always have been in the team. bla bla bla.

Put as much spin on it as you want, nobody is perfect, you're certainly not, neither am I and he's playing fantastic footy. That's all I really care about...you can remain as negative as you want!

Spot on

You started off disputing he was ordinary by foot and have now turned your argument into something else. Stop crying about criticism of Mitchell, every player gets criticised, this is after all a discussion forum. Don't bother with your cheap personal snipes because your favourite player gets criticised, it is childish.

I don't really dispute that he isn't great by foot. Yes, it's not his strength. But you are fixating on his foot skills when it's only one attribute of his game.

For no reason either given his form is excellent

So we're not allowed to talk about Mitchell's footskills?

Of course you're allowed, but we're allowed to point out the holes in your reasoning

He still had a few up-and-under kicks but apart from that you couldn't complain about his game.

I'll keep this short.

Some posts have been removed from this thread that could be seen as personal snipes directed at other users. We encourage robust discussion on this board and posters are entitled to refute each others points if they are able to back up their arguments. However, we take a dim view of ANY post that might be read as sniping another user. If it is clearly light-hearted, that is fine, but if your post is deleted, you know why.

Now let's get back to discussing Tom Mitchell's game and what this means for Bird's Mulrooney Medal chances ;)

Quiet night by Tom's standards. Only the 26 disposals at 76% DE and 7 tackles.

What round will you stop with the pass-agg comments?

He did kick one oob on the full but he was put in the position under pressure and off the right foot, so I believe he can be forgiven (just learn to kick the opposite!) The howler for me was the kick into the pocket to Pyke that Goldstein marked...should've gone the square!

It was actually just an accurate post. It's one of the lowest disposal tallies he has had all year, I didn't need any sarcasm or passive-aggressive text.

Sorry I forgot to take into account your natural sass.
