i laughed i heard someone behind me in the hawks res members say is there someone new wearing number 29 tonight?

he took some grabs tonight not one brain fade.

well done tom!

That might have been me :p I recall saying "Who are you and what have you done with murphy!"

I thought murphy was a gun today, and in relation to Gilly, it reminded me of the day's Croad played, sometimes minimal possessions, but the person he was on had even less. And with Shoey, Stratts, Guerra, Murphy and Lado all defending and rebounding Gilly could afford to do that and do it well

With a settled back 6, looks excellent does young Tom. Shame that he will probably get pushed out of the side when Gibson returns. Hell i'd keep Tom in because he is really stepping it up.

Is getting very confident, which is great.

stratton like.
the 39 and 29 seemed to become like one tonight.
Murphy thanks for the payback.
Just loved seeing you playing the ball not the man and taking contested marks.
Keep backing yourself and u will get the plaudits you deserve.

A big thumbs up from me, he collared the slippery Davey a few times, looked to be reading the play really well.

Strattons calming influence was noticed across the backline tonight, its like osmosis. Only worry was Gilham - he looked pretty wonky after a collision in the final quarter. Have to get Ben to channel some healing energy through him.

Sorry if I do not agree with the sentiment of this board. People are only noticing him now, but he has being good all year.

Today was his best game but it was only 5-10% better to what his done usually.

Getting consistent game time has correlated in a steady improvement.

Sorry to say but if we listen to the general consensus Murphy would of being delisted and our team without Murphy would of lost 3 or 4 of the last 5 games.

Good point. This isn't Murphy's first good game. He's been excellent since the Carlton game.

Murf has been in the team for his TEAM efforts - most weeks he is give a specific job and has done it to the best of his ability.

Sometimes it it moving away from his opponent to help another team member and it comes unstuck and his direct opponent is alone and the supporters pay out on Murf.

When things work out OK - Murf's support is not noticed by supporters when he assisting his mate - however I am sure it is noticed by the powere that be.

Well done to Murph for a stellar game last night. Great to see him going for marks and playing with confidence. I didn't think he had a future at the club up until a few weeks ago, but I'm glad to have been proven wrong.

Also well done to Schoey and Gilly last night. Schoey showed last night why he is our CHB of the future. He was aggressive, read the play well and totally shut down Gumbleton. And how sweet it was to see Hurley get killed by Gilly. Best win of the year!

Tom simply re-inforced tonight what many of us already know - he is an integral part of our backline.

Forget this rubbish about not being in our best 22, he's there now, and he's there to stay.

Interestingly, Ben Stratton has a few impressive games and we start pumping his tyres up to the max (which is fine), but with Murph, it's almost begrudging acceptance that he may have something very useful to offer.

Frankly, Gibbo won't walk back into our side given the nature and extent of his injury. You can't managed a torn hammy tendon as a defender who can't control the extent to which he runs (as opposed to a key forward who can pick and choose the intensity with which he approaches contests). It's dictated by where and when your opponent takes you.

A fit Gibbo would be a pleasant bonus this year, and he would be our 7th defender if fit and available in my view. Start him on the bench and use him where required (even as a forward option if necessary).

Our back 6 is settled, it's working and Tom's very much an impressive part of our resurgence.

I need to say that I have not been a Murphy fan but his game last night was his best since 2008. Well done Tom you proved me and many more wrong,I hope this is the standard for the rest of your career.I loved being proved wrong because we really needed Tom to stand up.

Guessing you have not watched games where he keeps guys like Milne or Stevie J to nil output.

So many others at our club are struggling as top 10 draft picks, others with lack of application yet we have a guy in our leadership group, who was a big part of our 08 flag, who boxed out of his weight division for all of 09 and who this year is a big reason for our ressurgence.

My biggest problem is that so many people have jumped on the band wagon this week yet if he has one flaw next round, the same people will become the pack of uninformed, know alls.

I think Murph has Stratton to thank as well though, because Strattons addition this year has been mightily impressive and he always seems to have a cool head when under pressure in defence. You can't measure how that sort of attitude can assist others in defence.

A roast to Tommy. Posters are right in staying that this is arguably his best season.

But we are only noticing him now because the scum like to go through their small forwards which meant Murph was under a lot of pressure....and he pulled through.

That's why he gets the recognition today, because under the pump he contested the ball and often won the contests while supporting all the defenders aptly.

Keep it up murph! :thumbsu:

Maybe it looked different on telly but that was the best game I have seen him play. He cops it when he's bad (and sometimes when he's not) so he deserves plenty of wraps for tonight. Well done Tom :thumbsu:

He still at times gives me the shivers when he gets near it but he was in a best 5 players and deserves plaudits. Well done Murphy, Keep Going!

He's been sensational over the past 2 months. Give him a job, and he'll do it. As long as he doesn't have to play on a monster, he can play a valuable role in this team. With Gilham, Stratton, Schoenmakers (add in Brown and Gibson), and he is in his element.

Well done Murph.

well done murph is in the best 22 and maybe the best 18

a few weeks back i said
i am starting to think he needs to go back to vfl and play as a 3rd man up Tom Harley like defender, one good thing about the big Murph is he seems to have safe hands.
this might reinvent him.
it seams he may off read that.
has beaten every opponent he has played on since Carlton and now is peeling off and helping out the other boys.
''Tom Harley V2''

never been his biggest fan, though i've held back from joining in on the vitriol shown towards him at different stages on this site. i said going into this game that he should be an "unlucky omission" due to the agility of the essendon forward line which i felt would be his undoing. this however proved completely false. he played a great game last night and deserves a lot of credit for it. his positioning was the best i've ever seen, and at crucial stages, particuarly in the final quarter, he did all the right things. i felt that though davey had a couple of great moments, overall he well and truly negated his influence as a deep crumber and shown that he truly is a very sound matchup for most small forwards. he has earnt a big pat on the back for his game last night. well done t murph :thumbsu:.
