Recommitted Tom Papley [wanted to return to Victoria, nominated Carlton - didn't get there]

Pick 9 is over the odds for Papley I reckon. Hes FP for gawd sake, albeit a pretty promising one.

Surely Sydney wont hold out for even more. good FPs are pretty easy to find. We seem to shed a couple of good ones every year.
I'd imagine Adelaide would have wanted more for Cameron in hindsight.

Eddie Betts aside, forward pockets fortunes seem to ebb and flow. I can't think of many over the years that were elite in that position all their career.

Personally I'd only give up a top 10 pick for a genuine mid, or a KPP.

The fortunes of top 10 draft players also seem to ebb and flow.

We want a ready made player to fill a problem spot.
We won't pay a premium for Daniher as his groin continues to be an issue so the Swans are sitting tight & are in the box seat for any Papley deal who, is more than happy to stay a Swan for these next 4 years. This is purely to see what we can get out of Carlton & in no way intended to be a "fair" deal to address what Carlton want without the Swans getting what they want first.
I think Carlton supporters need to start realising this & that you will need to lose a player like Weitering to get Papley to your club.
Carlton will have to pay a premium for Papley & now that they have that taste for Papley in their mouths, Weitering will be the one we will force out of their club.
Weitering?? Haha! What a classic...

or maybe you should educate yourself and understand the intricacies of trigger clauses on contracts ..otherwise you will keep embarrassing yourself . ;)

Intricacy in "bold".. woo I'm so scared now.. do tell ? Let's hear your discombobulated argument about how we should see this completely different to Gibbs trade then :)

Don't you get it mate. His club was being perfectly reasonable playing unrealistic hardball for a player that wasn't worth it. Meanwhile, another opposition shouldn't even dare to try to hold their young gun with family ties that has four years on his contract.

4 years ??? seriously go and educate yourself on what a trigger clause actually involves

Did gibbs have a trigger clause ?? you seem a little lost in this thread
You keep banging on about this:

"AFL.com.au understands the Swans intend to hold Papley, who is contracted until 2023, to his existing deal in the Harbour City."

Considering Adelaide ended up paying the 2 firsts we asked for a year later I’m not sure it was hardball.

May be you'll see the light and pay the same too then? What goes around comes around ?

Cool. Hopefully we demand two firsts and you pay up a year later. :)

Has anyone not named Tom Browne claimed that figure? Given that he is set to sign for ~$500k, put your biases aside and ask yourself whether it would make sense for a club to be offering 180% of a rival club's offer. That's insane. It's even more insane that a player would turn down what is essentially double the next best offer.

The best thing that AFL fans can do is not even acknowledge Browne's work. Without any hint of hyperbole, the bloke has no idea. The coaches hate him, the players hate him, and I'm sure that legit journos hate him as well.
I don't know gaff or Martin might though

Gaff and Martin were the best players at their premiership winning clubs and chose to re-sign there on fairly similar coin.

This is an entirely different scenario. Even so, the figures that Browne is claiming are next-level, fantasy kind of stuff. At $900k, it would make Papley far and away the highest paid player at North. He's good and I'm sure the club rates him, but there's only so long that I can suspend my disbelief

Contracted for another 2 years, so fair to expect a top 10 pick in compensation. Fortunately, Carlton has one to trade.

Win-win.

Sydney doesn't need to let Blues win. They can look after their own interests and ask for a ransom in my view. As the link provided earlier shows its contracted up to 2023, so if Blues want him that badly they can pay up.
