Pick 9 should have done it.

SOS too invested in winning trades.
Yep. I thought all along SOSauge wanted Papley and pick 25 for pick 9, then ontrade 25 for Martin, just so he could pump his own chest out saying, " I got Stocker, Papley and Martin for pick 4". Just like him pumping himself up over Setterfield and Marchbank trades. It was all about trying to prove he did the right thing last year. with the future pick trade with the Crows.

Now Papley has a year consider whether he trusts carlton again, as he'll still be contracted end of 2020.

You never had pick 9.

****ing embarrassing that this is what the Swans offered up for a player they chased for 6 months and offered a sizeable contract to. Oh well.
His is 1 injury away from his career being finished, that and his off field issues.

Essendon about an 80% chance to regret not trading him this year.

Papley would have taken Kennedy’s spot in the 22 (who cost Sam Taylor). A significant upgrade.

Blues are on the right path. Just need a match winning small forward (Papley) and a contested ball mid to support Cripps (Shiel, Coniglio, Wines). Can’t say the Blues aren’t targeting the right players.

It's been held up because the AFL have instructed both clubs to delay it until their TV coverage starts on FoxHell (similar to the Daniher deal which will happen)

I told the wife I'm not coming to the lounge until both deals are done.... Looks like she'll be filing for divorce. Thanks Elmer_Judd

Sydney are completely at fault for this one.

Swans never dealt in good faith for the Daniher trade, and as a result kept Carlton waiting all the wait up until 15min left to the end before making it known the deal had completely broken down.

Sydney chased daniher behind the backs of Essendon, get him to publicly shock nominate their club 2 weeks ago, and then offer up a deal that never had any chance of succeeding while keeping Carlton waiting all the way to the end of trade period.

If Swans are going to secretly convince a high profile player in the Essendon team to come to them, they better be willing to pony up at minimum their pick 5 in the offer which by all reports was never on the table.

Dodoro did nothing wrong, he made it known early and clear that the offer had to be enticing enough to let Daniher go and he sat back and let Sydney use the entire trade period to come to terms with the reality.

Swans acted dishonestly, they went with the strategy of trying to force dodoro to cave in on an unreasonable offer using the fact they got Daniher to publicly request a trade.

And even worse, because they took this strategy, they stuffed Carlton by making us wait all the way to the end with our pick 9 being held hostage until we knew for sure we couldnt get Papley, this ruining any chance to find a replacement trade with no time left.

Swans played dirty and held Carlton hostage alongside

Great melt

Papley isn't worth pick 9. This trade was never going to get done, he is worth more to us than to Carlton.

Great melt

Not a melt mate, it’s facts.

1) Swans never included pick 5 in their offer so was never a realistic offer
2) Carlton had to wait with their pick 9 until they knew whether Swans would trade Papley
3) because the swans offer for Daniher was never realistic, and they dragged it out to the last 10min, by extensions Carlton’s pick 9 was held hostage by a Sydney until we knew Papley trade was not going to happen.

Those are the facts, call them a ‘melt’ if you want but doesn’t change the facts.

Our offer was very fair. By all reports our 2020 first with pick 9 was on the table, exactly how wasn’t that fair. Even 9+25 is more than fair! That’s valuing him as a Top 2 pick!

What is stopping Carlton in dealing anyway- St Kilda did.

Hey Melty,
The most obvious flaw in your argument is that the 'facts' you are presenting are just your opinions, which you then convert into and state as being fact. Let me help you.

1) A realistic offer by the swans is not contingent on simply agreeing to the demands of Essendon. Swans offered two first round draft picks, which is more than fair for a player who has played a dozen games in 2 years. Jon patton was worth a 5th rounder?
Dodoro didnt want to trade Daniher so he made the asking price ridiculous, and then attempts to blame Sydney for not agreeing to the ridiculous offer

2) Carlton didn't have to do anything. They chose to wait for Papley. It was a risk given the essendon trade might not happen and they decided to roll the dice and take the risk. In hindsight it didnt work for them. They could have used that #9 for Jack Martin

3) Again, Sydney gave a realistic and fair offer. Most Swans supporters would say it was an over the odds offer giving up two first rounders (this year and next year). That Dodoro wanted to package in a player who a) didn't want to move b) would be a top 5 Sydney player who , again, didn't want to move, seems to be not computing with you . Simply put, Dodoro didnt want to trade Daniher so made the demands unrealistic and unable to be met by Sydney.

I'm sure Carlton asked for Sydney's permission before making contact with Papley and SOS texted Kinnear Beatson detailed updates of how talks between the Blues and Papley were progressing.

You did but you killed yourselves and Carlton.
We did nothing of the sort. Sydney tried to take our most important player away from us while contracted and wouldn't even offer up pick 5 to try and get it done. We were more than entitled to hold out for a fairytale deal and Sydney never got close to it. It sucks that Papley got caught up in all of this and I'm sure he's pissed at Sydney.

Crazy if you think Essendon would trade their contracted marquee forward when they don't even get offered pick 5.

Swans clearly didn't do enough to get the trade done.. which is fine, you wanted to use pick 5 at the draft and replace Papley with Joe Daniher for a 2020 1st.

Carlton copped it because the Swans had agreed to terms on Papley and were using pick 9 in negotiations with Essendon but then backflipped on trading Papley because they couldn't get Daniher across the line.

Harley just interviewed on Sports Radio. He said on the last day Dodo made it clear that 5 and 9 would not get the deal done. Dodo on soon.
