Rocky has had a wretched run since being appointed Captain. It must be dreadful for him to sit on the side-lines and then when he plays, do so with minimal match-fitness. The impact on our team should not be underestimated either - the lack of on-field leadership has been referred to by Leppa many times. Who stands up as our spiritual leader when Rocky is not on-field?

Been like that for a while....Not many stood up when Brown was captain..

Hey guys sorry to interject, nothing to do with the game. I live in benalla and i saw Caleb Marchbank last week in the main street and i posted about it on the GWS board. I'm probably rambling a bit so let me get to the point, I was in the Benalla YMCA tonight when Tom actually came into the gym and got onto the exercise bike next to mine, you could say i was very surprised!

Anyway looks good at the moment (as in fit) Was watching a video review of the game on the weekend on his phone, if anyones been to uni it's sort of similar to an online lecture in the style it was, Lepper going on what was good and what was bad, i'm surprised he didn't bring headphones! Also very friendly guy, nobody else in the gym (3 people) knew who he was which was a plus for him. But once he dived into it was pretty focused

Marchbank is a Benalla boy too? Maybe ol' Tommy was combining a trip home with a recruiting foray?

Has been seeing specialists down there and obviously still has family down there. Would have been given the time off to stay down there while he seeks treatmeant and see his fam. Obviously getting some kms in the legs still. No reason he couldnt play, but you'd think he would be up here for the main training later in the week.

You couldn't be blamed as a Lions fan for forgetting just how good this guy is after his rough run with injury over the past couple of seasons.

His possession counts for the final 8 games of 2014: 45, 28, 36, 47, 32, 40, 43, 45. His tackle counts in those same games: 12, 10, 10, 10, 7, 10, 9, 8. His contested possession stats in those same games: 21, 13, 17, 19, 10, 13, 15, 13. His whole year in 2014 was superb though.

Then looking at his final 6 games of 2015 when he finally had a good run with injury and built some form/fitness. His possession counts: 30, 32, 36, 30, 45, 39. His tackle counts: 9, 7, 7, 12, 14, 7. CP stats: 10, 8, 12, 12, 19, 15.

Phenomenal numbers when you think about it. Such an important player for us and I can't wait for him to get another good run at it.

But according to big footy he is ineffective and Sam Mitchell is a top 3 player

Lions skipper Tom Rockliff a certain starter this week
BRISBANE Lions captain Tom Rockliff has declared himself a certain starter for Saturday's clash against Carlton at Etihad Stadium.

The 26-year-old has not played since injuring his right hamstring during the second quarter against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in round seven.

Speaking to The Traders' Fantasy podcast on AFL.com.au, Rockliff said he had overcome his leg complaint and was now raring to take the field against the Blues.

"I've just got to get through training this week, which will be no dramas, and make a return against Carlton down there," Rockliff said on Monday night.

"I'll play. I was pretty close last week of playing against Hawthorn … and hopefully the body holds up over those injury mishaps and have a really good finish to the season."

Rockliff has endured persistent back-related hamstring and calf injuries this season, and suffered a new tear against the Power.

The Lions' skipper consulted a hamstring specialist in Canberra to determine how to best treat his recurrent soft tissue injuries following his most recent setback. Rockliff has featured in five games this season, leaving the field early in two matches due to injury.

Another Rockliff Club record

The term ‘ball magnet’ is used much too loosely in AFL football, but in the case of Tom Rockliff it really is appropriate.

In Brisbane Football Club history 295 players have played a total 672 games since 1987.

The first 152 games featured 20 players and the next 93 games featured 21 players. And since 1998 it’s been 22 players wearing the club jumper each game.

So, that’s a total of 14,387 times that the statisticians have recorded how many possessions a player has had on any given day.

Only 13 times have they recorded a Brisbane player having 40 possessions or more.

And of those 13 times Rockliff has been the target of this numeric adulation no less than eight times.

The skipper was at his ball-winning best against Carlton last Saturday, collecting a club record 48 possessions.

His body language for a captain is just terrible.

As much as the players don't play for the coach, it is evident they don't play for the captain and its hardly surprising given Rockliff rarely gets around the young players.

Always been a fan of Rocky, but now I am just not so sure. This guy really needs to stand up. For our premier player (apart from Beams), where the f**k is he when the chips are down? Just am very unsure after tonight's effort if he is genuine captain material or if someone at all to cornerstone our club around. Dare I say it...could he be tradeable? Really need some more class, heart and two way running in the guts

That sook attempt at drawing a 50 was the most I've been disappointed in a player deemed to be captain of a club. Utterly utterly atrocious.

Heard a few Mathieson comments in the crowd after that. Really bad look from Rocky. Poor game too.

Bit of a leadership void at the club though. Zorko or Robinson are the only other two who look capable.

Rich was a poor choice for VC too.

Harris or Keays will inherit it when they are ready.
