So we can quote you then. Scully to leave the demons because we have a drinking culture, source, Scully household.

Well that is solid proof.

Are you that foolish?

The original statement mentioned that Scully may have some concerns. What this means is ambiguous. It does not mean there exists a out of control problem. Furthermore an 18 year olds understanding of the matter may be different than that of someone with more experience. Alot of players would have concerns like this when starting at a club. Being a non drinker he may be more worried about the social aspects of it, similar to how a homosexual player may have concerns about that too. So you seem to be the one who has made any outlandish comments regarding this matter, rather than the topic starter.

So he would have concerns about going anywhere,, not melbourne. All clubs have drinking cultures - he wouldn't fit anywhere.

As a topic starter, a pretty stupid one at that.

In other words, he obviously worries too much. Whatever club he went too, he'd have the same problem of fitting in.

Perhaps he wouldn't be buddies with Fevola? Good thing he didn't go to WCE.

40 odd players at a club plus coaches and support staff. There are always different personalities, I think it would be normal to worry but you think he needs to chill, whatever.

Ok Stick, had you heard that the senior players were taking the new blokes into their homes, to gain a feel for what is in store for them??????

I know they used to try to match up certain younger players with really hard trainers.

Steven Tingay was really professional with his training and preparation and he lived with a few youngers guys for periods as the club tried to get a more disciplined approach from some players.

Didnt know they were currently doing this billeting thing though. Do you know how long they stay at the new place?

Good call, not that it really compares but when i started at my local senior club at 17 i was pretty niave to all the sex drugs and rock'n'roll. I had no idea about the amount of alchol and drugs consumed by other players (an in general really).

Scully is in a new environment and without life experience the social side of a senior football club would be foreign to him. Having said that i don't think there is much to this story.

Plus how much partying and drinking could of the players done in the 3weeks scully has been at the club for it to be a major concern.

You get a new recruit and all you can think about is doom and gloom.

Out off interest, how would the Scully family know about the clubs culture, they have only been there 10 minutes.

Congratulations on taking one thread and generalising it to every discussion relating to Tom Scully :thumbsu:

I think the issue would be that Tom has never had a drink in his life, and at any AFL club you will find players drinking during certain times throughout the year.

As such, it is understandable that Tom and his family would have some concern surrounding the way in which he will handle socialising in those situations where other players are consuming alcohol.

I think the term 'drinking culture' has created some negative connotations which may be a little too extreme to describe the actuality. In reality, I'm sure all clubs have a 'drinking culture,' at least to some extent.

Hopefully, in Melbourne's case, it is a very small part of our overall identity.

I heard that the moon landing was actually a fake and was all filmed from a Hollywood studio....

Mmm yes, and apparently Clinton's staffers initially planned to fake a war with Albania to distract folks from the Lewinsky scandal... :p

Exactly. I think it'd be weird if that wasn't the case, all things considered....

Talked to someone who played school footy with him this year. Said he was an absolute freak. He played as a forward and said life was pretty easy with scully kicking the ball into 50. Said the word sherrin hit his chest so often it almost became a tattoo. BE EXCITED! :thumbsu:

I played some senior footy at a pretty young age. I remember 1 of the weekly awards for best players was a slab and they gave me a six-pack instead and told me I had to 'share' it with my Dad. I remember taking it home being pretty shocked and Dad wasnt too impressed either.

Anyway just part of the adjustment to a senior environment that most younger guys would go through and I expect Scully and other draftees will face similar concerns/rights of passage as they enter the new environment.

Theyll get used to it just I like did.

He must be so glad that the blues didn't get a chance to pick him... He would be beside himself....

I know - can you imagine he was handcuffed to a senior player and forced to go drink for drink like Casboult was!

Will be interesting to see if he breaks his stance over the coming years and has the odd beer.
