That's exactly what I said last night,
I think it's a good move with the older players showing the young blokes the type of lifestyle routine to expect & also diet routine...
I'm not going to bother actually stalking them. But I'm sure the players like a drink but I have faith that the majority of the players aren't drinking excessively, especially the leadership group and important young players. I also believe that if we did have a drinking problem it would have resulted in a few player indiscretions and we're not exactly having an excessive amount of them.
Isn't Scully a non-drinker? I think I read that somewhere, which could explain his feelings.
I'm hoping its more of a case of coming into contact with a group of men aged 18-30odd who like the odd drink, as opposed to the Demons having more of a drinking culture than other clubs.
Doc, you are right, Tom doesn't drink, neither does Wattsy & Jetta.. I'm sure there are others aswell but couldn't tell you personally... The culture thing, I don't get it, I'm sure every club has blokes who like a drink......

Perhaps it was more he wondered how he would fit in with the other boys? Whether he may not get invited on the town or something along those lines?

I think that you're going to find a drinking culture in most football clubs.
Watts doesn't drink? The Bali photos say otherwise.
Scully is probably just afraid he won't fit in because he doesn't drink.

Scully would be friends with our Vic Metro drafties, which we have
a few of now, so I dont think he would be lacking for friends.
On top of that, he has Trengove and co to aquint himself with.
Also, dont forget that Tom hasnt drank all his life, so Im sure
its nothing he wouldnt already have dealt with.

Doesnt sound right. Maybe he was cautious about entering into a new social circle where the age group is higher - and hence going to bars and even having the odd beer etc.
Have never heard anything about a 'drinking culture' at our club.
I know recent departees Holland, McLean, Bizzzel and Carroll could enjoy themselves, but not serious culture concerns.
The only current player I know anything of is Sylvia, and judging by his recent efforts, Im sure hes not a current concern.
Hope young Scully doesnt go overboard too early and push his moral stances onto the others - I dont see a problem with the odd beer or wine in the context of the players socialising and bondong like usual young lads.
Anyway doesnt sound right - probably wasnt said in this manner.

Whatever that is I'm not sure I want our young guys getting into that, sounds a bit weird to me.
I'm going to keep my powder dry on this as the last time you mentioned Jack Watts, you mentioned he slipping on tiles, hurt his groin and was in a lot of pain. he came out the next day and trained no worries.
I've seen Jack have a few quiet ones. So something is not right there.
Totally understandable with your response... I'm not trying to be provactive or create rumours, only letting you blokes in on the conversations I have had....
Had anyone heard about the billotting of players before????? I think it is a great idea as a way for the young blokes to blend in quickly....

I have no inside information or sources but going just by previous news articles both Carroll and McLean looked like they loved the odd drink...or three.
Also hearing The Ox talk about the culture when he was playing it seemed that players were pressured into going our drinking with the 'lads'. Perhaps this culture is still with some of the older players, who knows.
Regardless, thsi drinking culture seems to be disappearing for various reasons

haha - I meant to say 'bonding'. Yeh if they are 'bondong' there is defiantely a drinking problem.
Probably shouldnt post this... so I will. But I have seen Ben Holland out with the Melbourne lads heaps of times. He enjoys a few beers and Ive also seen him out at clubs at 6am when he was on the list (and Im talking about clubs that have a serious pill popping crowd).
I kinda wish he's leave them alone a little. He wasnt even a quality player so nothing decent could be rubbing off.
Clubs usually try to distance departees for a few years by banning them from coming to the club unless officially invited.
