Tom Scully

No it didnt, remember the name Trent Cotchin? Where is he playing this year?

Yes they got some names right, but we all quickly forget the names they got wrong.

On the Tom Scully to Richmond thing, it won't happen, we arent in the same position as GWS, we would have to offer up a trade and Melbourne would probably want either Cotchin, Deledio or Martin.

The only chance we would have is to play hard ball with Melbournes knowing that if they didnt trade with us GWS would swoop and they would get nothing. If Scully chose Richmond over GWS, I'd doubt very much he would like to go through a week of crap to find out at 2pm on a Friday whether he is staying in Victoria or not.

I think you would find the compo they would recieve would far out weigh anything we could offer.

The only realistic possibility is to wait another 6-7 years when he is eligible for free agency until then no chance.

Disagree PRR. Cotch was mooted early in the piece but we extended his contract almost as soon the rumours started - hence they went away. Boak was one that was also mentioned early but I am struggling to think of any others. I might add that I am referring to players dogged by persistent rumours that wouldn't stop.

All just my opinion anyway, but the Scully saga sounds exactly like Ablett Mk II only that Scully has less tying to his current club (other than maybe the possibility of playing in a good side - possibly a big consideration if the club play their cards right).

I agree about Scully coming to Richmond though.. more chance of Richo coming back.

Richo's coming back?????????????????????????????????

I can understand the kid wanting to leave Melbourne.

The club has absolutely no dignity or pride, as evidenced by the blatant tanking and reinforced by the Melbourne fans when they were cheering a loss to Richmond. The club also has sweet fa loyalty, throwing out their older loyal players onto the scrap heap earlier than they should.

Who rattled your chain?

Now back to Scully,

I have been walking around all day with a smile on my face with this news. Serves this despicable club right, blatantly cheating to gain an advantage in the draft. The AFL knew what they were doing but couldn't ever prove it, but they will soon get their revenge me thinks:D. Lets see melbourne get an end of first round pick as compensation for Scully. Even that might be a little to high?

Oh and for those that think he would come to us............ dreamin............:D

Actually BM, before the rumours had been mooted an agreement had already been reached by both parties to extend Cotchins contract. It was only a matter of days from when it was discussed within the media to when it was released to the media that he had extended his contract !

The old rumour mill got it right, almost to a man, last year.

Ablett, Brown, Bock, Krakouer and Harbrow were all at first rumoured to be heading to the Suns, most of them from very early last year.

Doesn't look good for the Dees in my opinion - they are going to have to work very hard to keep Scully. They will also be restricted by an improved list in terms of talent and value.

I hope the drums don't start beating for any of our lads...

..garbola..

..some of the names 'linked' to GC last year..

Pav, Selwood, Roughead, Gibbs, Roo, Tippet, sure there's more...

..here's some more names, supposedly on GWS radar that re-signed with their clubs..

Swallow, Nicnat, Martin...

BAHAHA:p

All that tanking and he can't wait to get out of that crappy club :D

He is on his way to GWS no doubts about it. If he wasn't he wouldn't be deferring contract negotiations like gazza did last year would he? Hell this is terrific news. The only better news would be that the mercenary Judd was leaving Carlton for GWS with Scully.

This has made my day.........cheating scum melbourne are about to cop some karma :p
:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::D

Semantics, but I think we differ on our definitions Big Kahuna. You are referring to some names that were floated, I am referring to those players who were repeatedly dogged by media speculation throughout the year.
Ablett is the most obvious of these.

Almost every decent player coming out of contract will have their name linked to GWS over the next two years but I think the Scully issue has the Ablett stink all over it.

If Scully was even half serious about staying he would go to the Dees now and say "make me an offer and let's do a deal" therefore eliminating ten months of speculation, heartache and hysteria (thanks Dusty). To defer his decision suggests he is either very seriously considering a move north or he has already signed a heads of agreement as GAJ was speculated to have done earlier last year.

As it doesn't affect Richmond, I don't really care either way (I'd probably prefer Scully to stay) but I do find whole thing very interesting.

Sorry, but he has already seen the light and re-signed.

Unlike Scully, Dusty (and Jack and Cotch) has done the right thing for himself, his team mates, the club and us supporters.

Did you bother to read the whole post?

..regarding GC, a lot of names were floated, and in time many dropped off the hitlist as they re-signed, and the 'talk' intensified around the names left upon said list.. ..though i do agree that the Scully talk in particular seems a tad heavier [a'la gazz]..

..however, plenty of players over the years negotiate their contracts during the year [not all are player driven either, sometimes the club needs to juggle their cap too].. ..i don't think he's gone just yet, and i lean towards him staying if anything.. ..though thats a real guess more than anything..

Agree with both points.

Yeah the scully talk is a bit like the Murphy talk......loud drums or videos anyway

Hes gone imo why would a first year player going into his second hold the club to ransom like that? It's all well and good to ask for extra money but how much could he be asking for considering hes a second year player?

I think the best example one can give is Dustin Martin, first year player was reported that GWS had offered him 800k per year for 3 years, what does Martin do, he extends his contract with the RFC on less then what he would of gotten at GWS.

There is absolutely no need for a player going into his second year to hold his club to ransom like that.

..we don't know that he is holding his club to ransom.. ..most kids drafted would renegotiate their contracts during their 2nd season.. ..these are strange times though, but not everyone need negotiate their contracts differently just because of these expansion clubs.. ..and if i recall correctly [which is not a given], didn't your club 'move' Martin into the home of your pres [or some other high club official] in an effort to help persuade him..?.. ..and just on Martin, as a curiso who knows what the gws would be throwing at him now if he had delayed talks.. ..

..i think the dees are trying to build something at their club [not sure exactly what 100%] but it seems they're taking a certain stance towards their players, and everyone's getting the same fair [i.e-no favourtism] deal in regards to no players getting 'special treatment'.. ..rightly or wrongly but thats the impression i'm getting..

Save a few sage offerings this would have to be one of the most delusional threads I've seen on BF. Congratulations. :thumbsu:

Scully may, or may not leave Melbourne, but he sure in hell won't be a Tiger.

Yes, yes, it's "karma" and he'll go, won't he ? ;)
