Tom Scully

Hes gone imo why would a first year player going into his second hold the club to ransom like that? It's all well and good to ask for extra money but how much could he be asking for considering hes a second year player?

I think the best example one can give is Dustin Martin, first year player was reported that GWS had offered him 800k per year for 3 years, what does Martin do, he extends his contract with the RFC on less then what he would of gotten at GWS.

There is absolutely no need for a player going into his second year to hold his club to ransom like that.

Also Trengove and Gysberts extended their contract last year. At the time I thought it was odd that Scully didn't extend his with them. Funny how as soon as the rumour is even a whisper everybody re-signs except Scully. It's almost like that as soon as he got picked up by Melbourne he was already thinking he is going to change clubs once he fulfills his contract.

I personally think that he is most likely to head to GWS reading between the lines. But Richmond would be neglegent in their duty if we don't appoach him. Seeing that he was a fanatical Richmond supporter and it appears his heart isn't at the Dees their is a vague chance we could convince him. But this would only work if he was determined to play for us.

However if that doen't work then we could try again once he is 26 and can use free agency.

Thank god that Martin signed up and committed to us.

So in the apparently unforeseen circumstances that Scully remains at Melbourne it will render your and other prognostications (as highlighted) to be nothing more than fanciful wishful thinking by those with a shallow intellect.

It's amazing the conclusions one can draw from so little facts.

All this talk about pinching Scully off Melbourne - has anyone even considered what we would have to give up for him?

A number 1 draft pick who ( at this stage) has shown he has the attributes and two years of development in the system.

You would expect then that his price would be more than a number 1 draft pick, which it is unlikely we will have.

Anyone that thinks that melbourne will take a player like mcguane, nahas, et el in exchange is.....well, how are the pixies today? everyone fine in magical pixie land are they?

The club is preparing to rape other clubs via free agency, and it is quite a while before scully becomes eligible for that, if he lasts that long.

Now you're being a realist.

It's hardly wishful thinking. I am just reading between the lines and giving an opinion. To me his heart doesn't appear to be at the Dees.

These are the reasons I draw this opinion:
Even if he does sign it is clear that the main motivation is to get as much money from Melbourne as possible, even going as far to hold the club to ransom, rather than playing for the jumper.

There are many players who could do the same thing and command a higher price then their worth, but most are happy settle for what they are worth or even take a pay cut in order to keep the team together. Look at Trengove and Gysberts, they signed last year without worrying about the dubious reasons given by Scully's management for waiting to the end of this year.

While Trengove and the other Melbourne players have often been saying that they want to be a "one club player" and that they are committed to Melbourne for the long term. I haven't heard Scully make a statement like that, if he did then I missed and I apologise. Most of his statements I read are around things like "it's good playing with these guys" or "Melbourne is a great club" which are positive statements for the club but hardly a commitment.

The big one is that he is defering contract negotiations until the end of the year. He knows the rumours and speculation will be a major distraction during the season for him and the club. If he cared about the club, he would sign now to end it quickly. Or at the very least come out to the media and say "I am leaving the contract negotiations to the end of the season and I am committing to sign with Melbourne if they give me a reasonable offer to what I'm worth.". Instead his management issued a statement which reads like legal contract with a lot of "get out" loop holes.

As I said this is just my opinion and this is what I read between the lines. Being an opinion I'm a open to the idea that I may be wrong and wouldn't have a problem if Scully proves me wrong. If you don't like my opinion, then oppose it with facts or with your own opinion. In fact I welcome debate about my point of view if it's constructive. Insulting people just makes you look petty.

Verbosity, does not an intellectual make. Let's revisit your comments at the end of the year....until then we will sit back and watch the conjecture derail your club (no schadenfreude intended), ala Geelong.

....Oh...i love a little schadenfreude being splashed around....

....in fact i am going to SCULLy this demon drink and get quiet heady on its flavour...

...in fact i might even get tanked!!!...:D...

Why would he want to play for a club that hasnt won a flag for nearly 50 years

Because we're closer to one then you are? maybe.

(don't call this a troll post, you bought that upon yourself. Don't treat opposition opinions like shit, we're all entitled to one. Don't like it, state your own. The whole "**** off" thing was totally unnecessary)

I bet idiots like you thought the same thing during your hey day years where you were playing finals with ................ O flags !

what have melbourne done that makes you believe that you are closer to a flag !

You make a stupid remark & i will more than happily tell you to F*** off as many times as you like.

So either come up with an acceptable argument as to what makes you thing you are closer to a flag than the tigers or ***** off idiot

At the end of the day , if it were Dustin Martin we were talking about instead of Tom Scully .... Andrew Demetriou would have a contract out on his head , AFL house would have been razed to the ground and
Adrian Anderson would be hanging "Hannibal Lector" style from the Richmond townhall .

Sometimes we need to show a little humility

Did you watch the games tonight? You are still years away.

Scully will be at Melbourne or he will take the money and go to GWS, this is a laughable thread.

You fool , seriously if you believe a mocked up version of our great game that has nothing to do with what is played in the real season.

With the added fact that players such as newman, riewoldt, graham, martin, foley, cotchin, delidio, grigg didnt play just to name some players from our starting line up is any indication
You really do need help.

We shall see punk.

Richmond via GWS.;) in free agency.

The bloke bleeds yellow and black.
i am kinda sick of this bleeding yellow and black bollocks, when asked which club he followed from Melbourne he said he didnt really follow one strongly.
Secondly Judd didn't come to Melbourne, Franklin said he will always be a hawk, Pendlebury will never leave Collingwood... I think you have your wires crossed bud.

You seem a tad confused.

Laconic perhaps, verbose no. I'll lend you a dictionary if you like.

Actually Cathal is correct. The highlighted parts in Hannibal's post are redundant expressions, demonstrating prolixity. Of course, armed with your dicitionary, you know that prolixity is the same as verbosity.

Neither he or you are Spartans.

I disagree. A pedant could argue tautology, but even then it's subjective.

In context, Cathal was incorrect. And you talk of Spartans ?

...hahahaha...i'll just tip toe through this grammatical minefield...and simply talk of football...

Dude, how old do you think I am, LOL! I wasn't even around during this "hay-day". The only grand final I ever saw was in 2000, and it sucked lol.

As for what we've done, the answer proves alot more then you have. What has Richmond done for you to deny Melbourne's NOT closer? We've cleared our debt, we've recruited a select group of GUN youngsters, we've got an awesome board running the helm, and everyone that needs to be at the club to make it happen, is now there to do so. We're building the type of team where our "best-22" is very hard to concrete. Whereas Richmond on the other hand seem to be in a simular boat to where we we're like, 5 years ago. You guy's are WAY behind us tbh. Look @ 2nite for example, wasn't all that impressive now was it?

Call it a stupid remark all you want, but until you have a valid reason as to why Richmond's actually AHEAD of Melbourne, other then your heart refusing to comply, then you have no case to bare.

p1ssing contests are for the main board goose ...

... so p1ss off

at least we aint vagrants , you want to compare last nights efforts ? ... shows you know f... all about football anyway

Can't believe people are making a judgement on last nights performance, we were playing to teams who played almost the best teams they could injury aside where as we rested at least half of our best 22.
FFS how stupid can people be, I couldn't care less how we performed in T20 style footy not playing anywhere close to our best side.

Yeah, ok. I know **** all about footy, yet people here actually believe Richmond are ahead of Melbourne? Yeah, righto.

Personally, I have nothing against Richmond at all. I hope nothing but the best for you tbh, but no one can honestly say/think that Richmond are ahead of Melbourne. That's just bizarre. That's like me saying we're ahead of St.Kilda, Collingwood, etc. Who are already at the top tier.

BTW: pretty sure no one's playing their BEST side in the NAB Cup.

..back on topic, this thread's original intent reminds me a lot of the 'goddard to blues' stuff from years back.. ..not much romance left in the sport.. ..i reckon scully will stay, but if he does leave it'd be due to the insane gws offer.. ..which is a now or never offer....if he stays, he's stayin' for good i'd say..

I commented on your performance last night in terms of the way you play, and the development of your new blood. Your young players we're not as impressive, and are not as impressive at this stage in time. We're ahead in that case, as we're the more promising of the two. That's not to say they won't be good or gun players at a later date, but right now their behind tbh. AND; we can actually compete with Collingwood's best 22, and we have one of the youngest lists in the AFL.

Ohh and BTW: Scully will never be at Richmond. (backtothreadtitle/purpose)
