But seriously, West Coast are being typified perfectly. You hated him. You booed him when he played for your club, and you booed him when you should've been relaxing at the WAFL grandy. Then as soon as the media starts hyping him up ("promising young player" they call him in the article, when he wasn't), you jump aboard.

The guy is extremely lucky. He fulfilled a dream and played AFL footy. And now he's got the brains and opportunity to have an occupation in a rewarding, high paying profession. Nobody should ever feel sorry for him.

Probably has a hot girlfriend as well.

Please don't lump us all in together. I will agree with you and have a go at the vocal minority, who are already celebrating the news online. I don't want to live on this planet anymore (sometimes).

And he got the biggest cheer of everyone after the WAFL GF.

Good on the kid. Good enough athlete to play footy for a top team and smart enough to pursue a career in medicine. Not many have that combo and he must have worked SO hard to get such good grades and also commit to football to such a level. Hard to judge someone without having met them but it says a great deal about his character.

Still had a shit hair cut though

He lacked Polish on his disposal, if he kept it up and worked hard would of made a decent player, however possibly would of missed the chance to become a doctor with studying medicine after his AFL career, imagine being 36 and still studying at Uni in something which takes pretty much 10-12 hours a day of study at that age?

I realise this is a subtle troll thread, but I agree.

Nothing worse than fans booing/heckling their own players.

This is in no way a subtle troll thread. Do I give off that impression? :(

I think it's disgusting the way he was treated by some so called 'fans' (even if that's not the entire reason he quit).

Eagles supporters helped him out boo'd when he comes on cheer when hes subbed off how can most players play confident and good footy with that happening.

Who would bother with the slog and bullshit associated with an AFL career when you could forge a career in medicine?

Congratulations on making a very smart decision Tom.:thumbsu:

I hope you still get out and have a kick in the WAFL.:thumbsu:
Shockingly decent post.

I agree completely. He is by all reports a very smart guy, why not do something genuinely positive with your life if you have the ability.

Can't blame him - got jeered by everyone every time he got near it at the WAFL GF. To be blunt I don't think he was ever going to be that great. If his heart wasn't in it I'm glad he's made the tough choice to walk away. Best of luck.

I don't know anything about him. Why was he so hated?

bitter drivel freo post no 12984383

a lot of the jeers for him in the WAFL GF were from pathetic Freo supporters

Good on him, wonder what field in medicine he will be studying? He played at AFL level, not many can say that :thumbsu:

On SEN now they are saying that during this year, Mrs Embley tweeted saying that Swift was plays below par, or something along those lines. Has anybody else heard that?

I never hated him, I never booed him.

As for the second point, blatant troll.

Ah well, he gave footy his best crack while he was young and able. Heard somewhere back in 08 he scored in the top 40 TEE scores in the state for school, should be alright after footy.

Daniel Kerr's sister Sam tweeted that he was crap (or something along those lines) during the year.

Gotta take balls to walk away from an AFL career, I say good on him. If he no longer had the desire and had another option for a career then he has done the right thing. Footy is all glamour when playing AFL level and being a star, but it would be tough going playing WAFL and barely getting a look in. Copping crap from w***ers over the fence, you would kind of get sick of it and take the 2nd option for a career.

No real loss for the eagles as he probably wasn't going to make it but I say well done to the kid for making the tough decision.

Those saying how weak/soft he is because he quit, he at least was good enough to play AFL footy, more tha the 'tough' guys sitting behind a keyboard.
