Yeah not his best game that one Zee but he was tagging Garlett who was not a great match up for him. Was involved in one splendid play where he set I think Haynes up with a beautiful pass but apart from that had a tough day with Garlett too slippery for him. His game on Whitfield on the other hand was first class.
No shut up, I'm quietly hoping he'd be our Nick Smith :P

Finally a legitimate Went-For-Carlton-Kid :D
You are forgetting Carrots... he was a went for Carlton kid :D

Bet the family must have been pissed off that he was nabbed originally by the Geebungs... and ecstatic when he got delisted by them and picked up by us :D

But on that topic... a lot of our best players seemed to have not been associated with us to begin with and then after they joined us became 100% blue bloods.

Apparantly Carrots (who used to work at Hungry Jacks at Chadstone) would see/serve the Carlton recruiter (O'Sullivan?) back in the day and remind him that he was a Carlton supporter.

Yeah Matthew Watson had some cracking comments about the Blues before he was drafted by us.

Only stalked his Facebook a little bit...

There are no half measures. This is where you are. Deal with it.

Guess what you find if you search for Tom Temay Dylan Buckley...

The least acknowledged of the three players we picked up in the 2012 draft, but we didn't select Tom at #35 for nothing.
Temay can run all day and will develop into a very strong and tenacious small back-man that can go hard the other way.

Tom's pre-season shined at times and at other times fell into so-so territory, but it wouldn't have been fair to expect much more so early in the piece.
Not sure we'll see Temay front up in the senior side but as with the other boys we picked up in 2012, it won't be for not trying.

I think he's probably going to be the eventual replacement for Aaron Joseph if AJ fails to add some extra elements to his game. Temay was an elite junior middle/long-distance runner so he has run-with pedigree written all over him, and I wouldn't be suprised if they try to convert him into a defensive forward/midfielder, as I think it's going to be difficult for him to break into the Back 6 unless he can offer more than what we currently have playing down there. His claim to fame came from his shut-down role on Lachie Whitfield, so there's probably a good chance he's being primed to continue in that vein.

I'm liking what I'm hearing of Tom, Troy and Nick.
I think we've actually leaned towards kids that could ultimately become leaders at the club. All have quality individual attributes and are already liked from withing the club.

I'm not expecting too much from Temay early on and from what I'm understanding, he'll get better as the year goes on.

His VFL performances have been very good for what I saw of him in the training sessions where I was underwhelmed.

Reports I've read of the praccy matches he's been nothing but a positive additions in them all. Looks forward to seeing him develop.

Don't think we'll see him in the seniors this year but I hope we turn him into a solid back pocket to use ASAP.

I think the recruiting staff were outstanding in this draft. Granted it was considered one of the deepest drafts since the amazing 2001 class, but we were really able to get some talent quite late in the draft.

Menzel on talent was easily a top 5 prospect.
Temay seems to be competitive, consistent but obviously wasn't a stand out.
Graham from all accounts slipped quite a way down considering his pedigree, I think there was just a plethora of quality mids in that draft and he was one of the unlucky (lucky for us) ones.

I think Temay is probably unlikely to get a game until later in the season. He weighs around the same as when Dylan Buckley was recruited so he's going to need some serious Gym time to be AFL ready, especially if he's going to be playing defense. Like I said though, I think he would make a great run-with / defensive forward, someone who can be counted on to give relentless competitive forward pressure that you know MM will be asking for from all the forward, the smalls in particular. I still think he'd make a great small defender but at 179cm he's even shorter than Yarran.

Garlett and Buckley were a lot skinnier than Temay who has a solid core and impressive fitness base for a first year player.

Easy to forget how small Murphy was in his first season...

Fitness base and core strength is great, but I'd still be concerned he'd struggle to match up on a Porplyzia or other mature small forwards in his current weight and size.
Yes Garlett and Buckley were skinnier, but nobody expected Buckley to debut in his first year and Garlett is an anomaly and a forward, so it's not a fair comparison.

Murphy was tiny in his first year, but he only managed half a season and that was in a side that finished on the bottom of the ladder.

Exactly, mids, flankers and wingmen. Temay was recruited as a defender, hence why I said that if he does play this year I think that he should do so in one of those three aforementioned positions, not in defence.

I think it's a moot point anyway as I actually think it would be a good sign if he DIDN'T debut this season as it would suggest a consistent performing Back 6, something we desperately need to have if we're going to go deep into September.

Not so sure about that. Reckon he's just as likely to be groomed as a Carrazzo replacement.

Rogers in his draft review mentions Temay's shutdown role on Whitfield and how they think he can play wing/midfield.

Oh no I agree with that as I said before in my other posts, and actually think he's a better fit there than as a defender. I'm only talking about this season, I think he could certainly be groomed to replace Carrots but that's going to be something that won't happen for atleast another 2-3 years.

Going to go out on a limb here - because I had the same feeling about Andy McInnes after watching all of our 2010 draftee videos, but didn't say anything.

This kid will be our best pickup out of this draft. Not the most talented, maybe not the best player overall, but will fill a hole we sorely need covered, and will have a long career in the Navy Blue.

There we go. I feel better putting that out there! Now let hindsight be my judge...

Blues light up Avalon

Tom Temay’s foot skills came to the fore as he went about amassing 20 disposals from half back before finishing with a quality goal in the final term.

Blues light up Avalon

Sounds like Tom was very solid in his debut on the weekend.

Would be great if he were able to develop into a solid midfield/defensive option for the senior team down the track. :thumbsu:

Tom had a quality game at VFL level against Werribee on their home ground.

He's looking very poised, cool and collected and doesn't rush his disposals although on the one occasion he did, he turned it over to an opponent for a shot at goal.

Altogether though his coaches will be very happy for his first game for The Northern Blues.
