Anyone else's first reaction upon hearing he had withdrawn from the Australian open qualy's that he was just pulling a " sickie " and is/was expecting a free wildcard ????

NFW sunshine !!!!!

Meh who cares, until he does anything we should stop worrying about him.

Also this is a bit unrelated but what is with people pronuning his name as "bern-ard tomik" instead of "berned tomich"? Since when did we start saying the name Bernard as "bern-ard" (if you peopple get my drift).

I got to agree, I mean there's nobody who really say who completely deserves a wildcard anyway so to be honest of course he'll get a good one. Not saying it's not bad or doesn't look skeptial but more the fact that Australian tennis sucks so bad that it really doesn't matter ebcause when it comes to it his record using a AO WC has been good so far.

he'll get a wild card. but i have seen players play through worse than a flu and it's clear to me he thinks he will automatically get a wild card every year. what has he done since Wimbledon. has he won any tournements on the second tier tour. has he improved his game and gone away from using the flat shots too much. i doubt he will get a centre court match this year

He has done nothing since Wimbledon. Played 12 matches after it.

Just another example of everyone wanting to jump on his back and shoot him down! It seems like most people want him to fail which is pretty stupid based on where Australian Tennis is at the moment.

If anyone else had of pulled out it wouldn't have even been mentioned!

That's the problem when you get stuck with the reputation of a superstar since he was 13, that's the trouble.

Maybe more people would like him if he wasn't an absolute tool.

He withdrew from the wildcard playoffs not qualifying.....
Qualifying is done the week before the Main draw starts.

I think its all a bit of a beat up, Kubler withdrew on the first day of the playoffs, and Guccione didn't even bother entering the playoffs, and both these players will be in contention for wildcards. Last year Ball didnt enter and received a wildcard, where was the fuss then?

I'm not saying that Tomic was right to skip the playoffs if he wasn't injured, but it's not like other players haven't done the same thing. He seems to be a bit of a whipping boy for the media.

I feel sorry for him in some regards. I think he says the wrong things sometimes because that's what his father would put him up to say (a lot of people are brats when they're young as well), so he's probably always gonna cop it. I just hate how the media pretty much expect him to be a champion as well, just let him be. We're too desperate for a champ.

Mayer just wiped him off the court quite quickly there, 6-2 6-2. I had the match on but didn't really watch. Does he still play like a woman? (harsh comment I know).

I kinda think its more to do with who is around him rather than the kid himself.

I think one year of going through qualifers rather then gifted the Oz open might be the kick he needs

After the effort he showed even I can't really defend him and even though his good efforts at AO in the past (people are still underrating the heck out of taking the semi-finalist to 5 sets), playing qualies at AO might be the way to go. Think there is still two Wildcards left, so wait and see how Jones and Millman go here in brisbane but Tomic doesn't have too much competition for the wildcard.

I think he has to change a lot of things. His attitude is number 1 on that list. Change his game play. The way he uses his forehand and backhand is terrible and that's what will let him down in the long run, if he doesn't start to change it. Find a new coach is the next thing. His dad is pulling to many strings and is still delusional

loses in the first round yet again. time to give up on this spud.

Don't know if he's giving it his all, but even if he's not he's not going to anywhere fast.

Threw the towell in today... someone needs to belt him.

Yeah, he ain't the most likable guy and he doesn't show as much emotion and outward determination that we'd like from our sporting heroes (today's "effort" seemed particularly half-hearted), but there's definite talent there.

I'd like to see another good Aussie player up there in the rankings so I'm not gonna tear him down...instead, I'm hoping he continues to mature, learn and improve his mental/tactical abilities. If so, we could have a good player on our hands.

He just needs to play as many competitive matches possible and grind it out in the Challengers/Futures circuits rather than be given help all the time. A good year grinding out challengers by himself will be good for him, would be a good life lesson for him as well I reckon.
