Interesting comment from him in post match interview talking about that mark.

Said one of the boys asked if he has ever been that high up.

His response was that he used to do it all the time but now he does so much running its harder.

So when his engine improves his marking might get better? Can his engine improve more? Has now done 4 pre seasons.
I noticed this as well. It is pretty hard to jump when you're doubled over. Lacking aerobic fitness might explain his lack of aggression (at times). We've seen patches of play like the mark when he's attacked the ball aggressively and looked a million bucks (yep). It seems to make sense, too - a huge boy like him wouldn't necessarily get to AFL aerobic standard within a couple of pre-seasons especially when you take into account his ballooning weight at GWS. Honestly, wtf were GWS doing with him?

Tommy works incredibly hard, even when he is gassed from running up and down the ground in the ruck. It was evident in the marking contest where he ran with the flight of the ball, spilled the mark, got back up and corralled the opponent, won another touch, slipped over and knocked it on. He was spent from the previous contest but went again and again because he had to. Relatively ineffective at the contest as a result, but you can't knock his effort.

Eventually the tide turned and he had a significant impact on the scoreboard to match that hard work up the ground.

Of course he can. He still hasn't had a chance to complete a full preseason as he's been injured or overweight for all four. Plus Stringer's fitness is only just now getting to AFL level after about 6 preseasons. The guy's barely 21.

from at the ground i thought he'd been atrocious to half time. then he takes mark of the millennium and jags two in the third. i love this guy
The life of a key forward. Buddy had his thumb up his arse for most of the game except for about 10 minutes in the fourth.

This is what he used to do when he was 16! So impossible to defend. He needs more fitness but great to see him still remember how to take the huge mark.
Expecting more of this as he gets older. A 23yo Boyd could become the number 1 KPF in the AFL.

Was he at the bounce for that one?.
.i can't remember but one of those marks he took, he was at the bounce 20 seconds before hand
Yep. He was our ruckman at that point and drifted down to take the mark. You can see Naismith trailing him and he had no chance once Boyd launched at the footy.

Actually felt sorry (for a minute) for Allir as he copped the knee to the back of the head, which put the front of his head into Campbell's thick skull
Tom actually concussed Maynard quite badly last year aswell. The pic is the aftermath but it was a knee square in the back of the noggin.

just a little wrinkle i've picked up on watching us play in recent times. Tommy Boyd is far more unstoppable going forward after rucking in a centre clearance victory. He seems to lose his man among the mayhem and provide us with a giant pack marking target free up forward. We'll milk many a goal from that over the years
