Tonights Game vs Eagles

Real impressed tonight. Sure people can say that West Coast arent the side they were, but overall I think that was our best 4 quarter performance of the year. Even early on, we had the run of the play and despite the score early I thought we were the better side. I know I questioned where Lloyd was at last week but the use of him in that high half forward role was fantastic and the most impressive feature of his game I thought was his defensice pressure. The big tackles he laid early in the game set the tone for his night and I noticed he didnt go to ground once!
Hille could have played the breakout game alot of people have been waiting for! Thrashed the best ruckman in the comp and surely that will give him the confidence to carry on for a long time to come
How good was Lonergan? Looks to have the goods, wins the hard ball and can use it well. Have been a fan of his for a long time and hopefully is a mainstay of our midfield for plenty of years to come.
Others to impress me were McPhee, Riemers, McVeighs disposal, Myers decision making, Atkinson looks a handy type, Stanton did well, Welsh shut down Priddis.
Plenty more I could mention but absolutely stoked we put 4 quarters together. Being in NSW its pretty lonely going for the Bombers when we arent going well so great to have something to gloat about this weekend!

Welsh is really standing up now, it is GREAT to see
Nash has a very accurate kick if he is on song for the night!
Hille smashed Cox! Lloyd played VERY well and took a great mark, Monfries and Reimers had a pearler. Myers as usual making decisions perfectly.
Keep it up boys! Time to show us what you can do

Still watching the game but a couple of points.

Hille has been absolutely freaking fantastic. His work around the ground easily outshone Cox, which is no mean feat...

Welsh... Found a niche! Two bigs scalps in two weeks and he's been good on the rebound as well. Extremely happy with him!

Monfries seems to have found his feet as an AFL footballer. Doing a job every week.

Lloyd was very solid. Did that spekky not bring a smile to your face? Lloyd of old...

Stanton's disposal has improved out of sight. I've been the first to knock it but he was hitting targets left right and centre tonight.

I also thought Laycock was handy, very clean hands in tight.

Negatives:

Atkinson is not an AFL footballer, looked lost at sea everytime he went near it.

The umpiring was horrible (for both sides)... I don't know what happened to the dropping the ball / incorrect disposal rule but it seems to be done away with

Fantastic to see some of the older boys with smiles on their faces and to see some of the young kids grow with confidence..! We desperately needed a win, for the players and the members, and luckily to our credit tonight we put in close to 100% and came away with the 4 points...

I think Atkinson is very much a confidence player, a lot like many other young players, and just needs to string some senior games together to find that confidence within himself to run and carry the ball a bit more...Sure, he didn't have anywhere near his best game in his career, but with a win under his belt and another game of added experience, it can only be good for the kid...

agree there our best 4qtr effort for the year......yes the eagles are a shamble but u only beat whats out there......one player i was watching tonight and yes his first game back but jobe watson was horrible tonight

he looked lazy and just not switched on.......his kicking was bad......i like jobe but needs to sharpen his act up or he may not be at the club to much longer.....your afl career can go in a flash...keep working hard jobe

Bloody hell mate. You're talking about 2 players with about 15 games between them at AFL. Note the negatives, sure. But let em grow beyond the sports equivalent of 2 months new born at the very least.

Agree. Almost brought a tear to the eye.

I loved the way he competed up the ground so well, both offensively and defensively. Playing Lloyd at CHF and Lucas at FF could be a good tactic from now on.

Great to get a win up, full team effort- everyone played well.

However, for the crap supporters out there who still feel a need to pinpoint every minor negative, even for players who are still yet to play 10 games- grow up. Not what supporting is about, work on it.

Did anyone notice a definate set play at the centre bounce, where watson would line up on the attacking side of the ruck and run back towards the opposition goals? Hille would tap the ball out to watson, who would reel around and handball to a player running off the 1/2 back line.
From a TV viewpoint hille would tap the ball towards the side of the ground the camera was on.

I noticed this at least 5 times during the 2nd/3rd quarters. Came off a couple of time and it looked slick....all they gotta do is cut out some of the silly handballs and this will be a rewarding bit of play.

man, i am so glad somebody else saw it, What happened to the kick lloyd didnt get in the first qtr for his massive tackle on Cox, or the 15 others. Was almost about to turn it off, but realised it as essendon and decided against it.

dont know what game you were watching but jobe was one of our better players tonight, had at a guess 7-8 clearances with 4-5 of them being out of the middle where they count the most, just pointing out, showed more than Atkinson, Slattery thought. have to admit.
