I guess tomorrow is when we will find out who performed (besides bloody Ted Richards)

Question...is CTV free to non-BigPond? Pretty sure it is.

Does anybody know how we lined up for the game?
Who was in?
Who was out?
How did the new kids go?
What position were they played in?

Schneider hurt in Swans triumph

By James Dampney
February 16, 2007

A HAMSTRING injury to Adam Schneider took some gloss off Sydney Swans' AFL trial match victory over Collingwood at North Sydney Oval tonight.

In a game more about giving youngsters a chance to shine than the final scoreline, Sydney led from start to finish to earn a 10.6.66 to 7.9.51 victory in front of nearly 10,000 spirited fans.

Mobile Sydney teenager Jesse White showed promising signs up forward and a number of other fledgling Swans players displayed glimpses of talent, but the sign of Schneider being assisted from the ground would have wiped the smile off coach Paul Roos' face.

Schneider, who has a history of hamstring problems, gained possession and took about three steps as he prepared to unload into the forward arc early in the third term, but pulled up very quickly and was helped off the ground by two trainers.

His status was not known immediately but he was taken to the rooms after the incident and didn't return to sour an otherwise encouraging debut by some little-known Red and Whites.

It had some unfamiliar faces, but Sydney's backline demonstrated the typical stinginess for which it has become renowned.

Rookies Nick Smith and Earl Shaw combined well with the likes of Mathews, Bolton and Nick Malceski down back and diminutive midfield player Kieran Jack - son of former league great Garry Jack - wasn't embarrassed.

Earl Shaw showed reasonable awareness in defence and also found his 199cm frame in the ruck at times in the absence of Sydney recruit Peter Everitt.

Some fringe Swans players from last season also showed improvement, including Sean Dempster, Jarred Moore and Tim Schmidt.

For Collingwood, Shannon Cox, Sean Rusling, Ryan Cook and Brad ******** had their moments, while Harry O'Brien also appeared to have risen a level in the off-season.

Injury-plagued ruckman Guy Richards, who could give the Pies a real lift this season if he can maintain his fitness, also impressed.

Former Essendon player Richards was busy for the Swans in the first half.

Still just 24 years old and about to commence his sixth season of senior footy, Richards looked lean and sharp and put his hand up for a regular forward post alongside spearhead Barry Hall when the season begins with five goals.

At the other end, Travis Cloke made a strong start, kicking Collingwood's opening two majors and finishing with three for the night.

Brad D ick continues to sound like he is impressing - Might have unearthed a diamond in the rough in that one.

Sounds like most of the ones we wanted to contribute have done just that - Richards, Cloke, Rusling, O'Brien, Cox... Good to see Cooky putting his hand up as well.

Thats some pleasing news.
Esspecially the bit about Guy Richards.

A scrappy affair on a small ground with a stiff cross breeze. Players frequently switching on and off the field made it doubly difficult. Ted Richards's first quarter separated the teams all night, and we did miss two goalsquare kicks at goal. The best thing to report is that the swans got the only injury (AFAIK)

My Player-by-player report (FWIW)

1. Leon Hard to find, got some clearances but quiet
2. Ruzz Not impressive, but worked hard. I'm not yet convinced
6. ******** looked lively but didn't seem to display Aaron Davey pace. Not too bad.
7. Medhurst. Did what he does. Didak is safe.
10 Pendles Disappointing. Got some touches.
12 Cox yeah, Ok. Not sure he's a wingman, but showed signs.
12 Wakes Oh dear.
15 Eegs not one of his better ones
16 NBrown Looks like a footballer, a fine cut of a lad. Approached his defensive duties with gusto, but didn't trouble the statistician all that much. OK.
17 Burns Didn't get much game time, looked fair, I suppose
19 Davies Not on for long at all might have picked up an injury. Quiet when he was on.
20 Reid Better built than I expected (he seems to be thick breastbone to backbone, so i reckon he might fill out OK). Looked keen whenever he was on. Led up constantly, and has a presence about him, but tonight he didn't get much of it.
21 Guy He was taking on their second and third string rucks and failed to dominate. Got some nice taps, and did some things around the ground, but his make-or-break season has not begun all that well.
22 Rhys Very quiet, may have jarred something
26 Ben Couldn't really get into it tonight, and made some skill errors
27 Nick Excellent Came on in the 2nd quarter and immediately cut Richards out of the game. Nice effort.
28 Danny Stanley Solid build, and did some nice things, but generally pretty quiet.
29 Ryen Cook Lively type, did OK up forward.
30 Harry Went OK.
32 Trav Easily our best, and he was on Bolton the AA defender. Missed two sitters that reduced his effectiveness
34 Toovey Nice type but at this stage NQR
37 Iles linked nicely on occasions. A bit vanilla
39 Heater Good. Very quick. MM only played him in short bursts.
40/33 Bryan Get enough of him and you could build a nice cabin
41 Wellingham Only got one run and looked lke he'll begin the season playing the early game at Point Gellibrand
43 Paddy Excellent debut. Easily the best of our young brigade. Lovely kick (surprisingly enough), and won plenty of his own ball. Nice!
44 Nicholls I was looking forward to seeing danny after several posters had nice things to say about him, but tonight he was hard to find.
45 Macaffer Didn't see him at all. I suspect he didn't play.

Happy to answer any questions

Just got home from the game. Yep, D1ck was impressive playing in #6. Took a few good marks in the forward line, bagged a goal but totally stuffed up another.
Guy Richards was quiet, needs to do more around the ground for mine.
Cloke's marking up forward was great and kicked long 3 goals - 2 from angles - and duffed an easy one from 10m near the end of the game.
Rusling lined up at full forward against a much bigger bodied Vogels and seemed to play virtually the whole match . He took plenty of marks and should have ended up with at least 2 or 3 goals but his kicking let him down. Take the marking out of his game and he was a passenger.
O'Brien played his usual game.
Can't say I noticed Shannon Cox much.
Ryan Cook bagged a goal on the run from out near the boundary but not sure he had too much game time either.
Martin Clarke played at least half a game. Lined up at HBF and seemed lost at times. Looked to quick to take the shortest option at times. He is definately heavier than his listing of 78kg and was willing to get in and under for the hard ball. Spoiled a ball he should've marked. Definately needs time to adjust to the oval ball game.
Alan Toovey got plenty of ball but didn't always use it well.
Dale Thomas was kept very quiet and probably only played a quarter and a bit.
Ben Reid showed some potential at CHF in the 2nd half with a couple of marks and a goal but judging by his skinny frame seniors is still a while down the track.
Chris Bryan - marks ok, kicks crap.

Has to be expected after he played for Carlton;) Have to break the habit

They had the same amount of scoring shots and missed 2 sitters and they played all the rookie listed players and the fit first year drafties. Dont take any notice of this game. Willi have had stronger sides take the park.

Kids got game time and players seemed to get through unscathed . That is all that matters.
