It will be interesting to see what support Tony gets with this his latest idea and possible solution to a long overdue problem. Have to agree we have definitely been far too soft on who we let into this country regardless of how they've arrived. Similarly, there should be more emphasis on those who choose to breach the various types of Visa's that they enter the country on.
Hopefully the Labor Party will get on board and support his stance but I expect that there will be the usual negative bleating from the Greens and the usual 'do gooders'.

This will certainly create more jobs. The rumour is that he will engage individuals on Centrelink unemployment benefits to stand at our borders with a megaphone and shout, "Go back to ya country, ya flog!"

Define "too soft" as well. Assuming they arrived as a refugee, ie, fleeing persecution in the first place, just how hard would be appropriate to satisfy your bloodlust?
More proof the PM is clueless anyway, an appeal to his base isn't going to solve his problems.

I think this appeals to the exclusionist racists more than you think. I walked down to the local cricket club on the weekend and the amount of chatter about blowing up Adelaide oval while it was filled with Indian and Pakistani fans was scary.

I think the typical Aussie is pro shutting the door to anyone while simultaneously covering their ears to any alternative.

OP conveniently ignores the data-retention laws the Abbot led government are trying to rush through parliament which is the whole point of his bait and switch youtube address. OP instead gets stuck gorging on the bait.

Correct
The ALP and the Watermelons will be screaming the usual "ist" and "phobe" buzzwords

It is of course, far more complex than Tone and his slogans suggest. The Sydney man had been here 20 years-a nutjob, not connected to any organization. The French, Copenhagen, London-for example all born in those respective countries-so how will you stop these 'bad people' getting in when they could well be born here Tone? They are our own 'bad people'.
So what is the next plan Tone-nobody ever comes here in case their children turn out bad eggs?

Irrelevant, why don't you just stick to the subject matter?

The Sydney man, I presume you mean Monis, should never have gotten into the country in the first place.

If it's Tony Abbot's youtube address last night is what the OP is referring to (which admittedly isn't clear, because you have provided a reference to "his latest idea"), then how is the new data-rention laws being proposed not relevant when he explicitly mentions them at around the 2-minute mark of his address?

If you are in fact not referring to this address in the OP, but rather a different one in which Tony Abbot releases his "latest idea", please kindly edit the OP so that the respondents in the thread have a better idea of what we're all discussing.

If you are in fact referring to the last night's address outlined above, I dunno, maybe you should watch/read/listen to all of it so you don't come across as an idiot in a thread you've created about it.

He wants a terrorist wedge on controversial laws he plans to bring in.

Don't think that has been properly established at this point. And he lived here for so long, without breaking the laws, that it seems a stretch too far to classify him as a security risk.
Meanwhile, any idea about how to identify and manage locally born and bred 'security risks' in many areas of offensive behaviour?

Lied to his own party last week to maintain power. Did anyone expect anything different other than his immigration and welfare crackdown. Two of the three things he got all you sheep hooked years ago on.

He knows 30%(top 30%) of the population will always vote liberal, he knows another 30%(middle class) can be scared away from lab as they've been preconditioned by right wing media to wary of socialists. He's playing on that.

Thatcherism.

What a terrible OP. No reference to what his latest idea is; No discussion points raised; No quotes or links to back up statements.

This thread is a classic example of what Rule 5a was written to avoid: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/srp-board-rules-info-read-first.1072379/

5a. When starting a thread be sure that your opening post contains some form of discussion to start your argument off. Simply posting nothing more than "Discuss", "Thoughts", or quoting a slab of quotes will see the thread removed. Remember, threads are closed or moved based on the overall quality of their content. That content begins with (and often continues to be determined by) the quality of the OP.

Facebook/Twitter are better suited for throw away comments. Feel free to try again, with a bit more substance this time.
