Sumner for Armstrong makes a lot of sense. I'd be disappointed if Sumner leaves as I think he is a really good talent and can be a real player of substance for us but if he doesn't want to be here, so be it.

I think a straight swap is fair and I don't think the Swans would need to add anything else into the deal.

Sydney have obviously showed their interest in him via his management. No player is stupid enough to just walk out without substantial knowledge that their is sufficient interest. I would also assume he would be happy to return to Melb as well.

Johnston plays a completely different role to Reid and will likely find a spot in the side in 2012 pending injury.

Never going to happen, If the fact he is highly rated by the club isnt enough for you then, ill show with logic why he wont be traded as well.

Swans weakest point on the ground is the forward line, White hasn't come on as well as expected, and Johnston has an absolutely beautiful kick + a decent set of hands. With a big preseason and him putting on a bit more bulk could realistically see him starting at FF next year.

Add to that the fact that he was a former first round pick, and we wouldn't get value for him on the open market.

Add to that the fact that we only just re-contracted him this year and players hardly ever get traded the same year they are re-contracted.

And then add to that I'd have to change my forum name if it occured, and you have the reasons why he wont be traded.

mate, you dont need to convince me of his value to your team. Just putting it out there that he is a SA county boy and is surely a option for the crows to target.

If he hadn't signed a new contract a couple of months back, your suggestion might have merit. If he wanted to go back to SA or if he thought he might get senior opportunities earlier at another club, he would have had his manager starting to sound out opportunities months ago, and if anything was on offer, would not have re-signed with the Swans.

Alternatively, if it was a Dangerfield or Walker or Sloane that we were talking about and the Crows insisted that Johnston be part of the trade package (he obviously wouldn't be close to enough on his own), then I daresay the Swans would think about it.

But for a player of the ilk of Armstrong, the Swans will be able to find some trade currency without giving up a young player they rate enough to have re-signed so recently.

I think you can categorically rule out Sumner to the crows on the basis of the Tim Milera scenario. I would say the Crows would not be prepared to accept someone who has left the club mid season despite returning to their homestate, the associated baggage is something the Crows dont want.

Tony is exactly what Sydney will be looking for considering Kennelly has retired. And Sydney pride themselves on their half back line, with Kennelly , Malceski, Shaw, Mattner. Malceski was left out of the finals - named emg twice, so their is an obvious need there.

Sydney will be extremely vocal in trade week again, they will look for a key forward, another running mid - run and carry, and obviously a half back

I think Dennis Lane could offer something, has played well in a final vs Carlton in 07, which doesn't necessarily equate to much, but it does suggest their is talent their and he could be a good fit. His defensive pressure is an issue.

The real story with Sumner is that he was rated very highly for his committment and preparation by Stuey Maxfield. He showed his extraordinary kicking ability in the NAB cup.

In his first year he was too light, but he stacked on about 8 kilos by his second pre-season.

He was picked in the seniors for the first game this year against Melbourne but was played as a stopper rather than a forward and then dropped.

However, by this time there was something going on regarding the birth of a child back in SA. So he was distracted from the start of the year because of commitments in SA on top of the usual homesickness issues.

In terms of draft value both Armstrong and Sumner are similar. There is no guarantee that either player will make it at the other club, but both have their talents and potential.

If there is no trade deal done then both players end up in limbo with no certainty of being picked up by the club they want.

At least both clubs get a chance of retaining residual value if a straight swap is done. Seems to be a no brainer to me.

Moore is a potential trade to GWS along with Seaby and Bevan (all well within the Swans top 30). Curry will be kept as the only young developing ruckman on the list with Pyke the other back-up . TDL will be kept for his potential to strengthen physically (because skill wise he is sensational).
