I know this was a long time ago, but - Does anyone else get p*ss*d off that Dermie acts like this loveable guy who did some silly things when he was a kid - even though he BELTED Tony Free 100m behind the play, broke his jaw - and in many ways, ruined his So So So promising career? I mean Dermie was no kid back in 94(or was it 95?? - the excitement of thos two years appears as one big happy blur...) - I'm still so F-ing annoyed at that game. I remember just thinking what a typical act from a big arrogant has been playing FOR THE FIRST TIME in his career for a ********ty, cellar dweller Sydney.

Dermie was a great player but as a person he's an absolute tossbag. Will ruin hawthorn.

I cant believe how angry i still am over what he did to Free. im very tempted to ring SEN when he is on and ask him to honestly say once and for all "Did you or did you not Belt tony Free behind the play" he always denied it.... grrr...... cost Tony Free his career.... did a 2 knees after that moment and barely played 10games

Must admit I tend to think he is a bit of a waker , at the time I said that if I had seen him walking down the road on the oppisite side of the road I would have climb the curb to run him down. Still makes my blood boil after all these years. Freezer however is still alegend to the RFC (well at least in my mind)

Keep Roaring Frezer

Khan

p.s Does anyone else remember the year that Dermie played in the vfa after he retired.
The thursday before he played his first game they had Dermioe and Freezer on , sitting side by side as Eddie asked him about the incident, Dermie kept saying "I liked the boy" and things like that you could see Tony freeze up (sorry about the pun). Finally Eddie asked Dermie who they were playing and he answered Frankston (I think) , then eddie asked Freezer , "Wasn't that your old team ?". To which freezer answered "Yes and some of my mates still play". The smile dropped of Dermies face quicker than Sams plastic surgy melts.

Never heard the outcome but even though I dont watch eddie anymore that is one of my favorite Footy Show moments. The only time I have seen Dermie lost for words.

this did not stop freezers career he sustained a knee injury.
he would still be playing today and he wold have gone down as a true legend of our team.
dermie is a pig but i would have loved him in my team.
Time to move on mate.

I guess it would be alot easier to get over if Dermie wasn't such a goddamn ***********,*********toss*******ker******wit********arse****** etc....

It's hard to see toss pots being treated as heroes, even if they could play football

I was at the game and remember Brereton definitely lined Free up and hit him about 10 m off the ball.
It was definitely a low act, but no lower than the much applauded hits by Scott Turner on Garry O'Donnell and particularly Dean Kemp. Both of those players were also hit while not in the play and totally unprepared. Free had his jaw broken whereas the other 2 were knocked out and severely concussed.
From memory Free played on with his broken jaw and then injured his knee in the same game.

Dermie was reported by the emergency boundary umpire who saw the incident. He described it as a 'karate chopping' motion.

I remember Dermie getting a hammering when he went and played in the VFA :D The Free incident was an absolute disgrace and it started the bad luck for freezer, a tragedy this guy didn't play more footy.

your obviously much more forgiving than i am :) But just two points

A) Derm as mentioned in another post "used a Karate chop motion" i.e a direct and unmistakable illegal blow, compared to turners hard and slightly raised arm - Turner did NOT get reported

B) Turner's bump on O'Donnell was in a Cut Throat final in front of 80,000 ppl, against two teams which have a real, pure, LOATHING HATE for each other, where-as Derm did his in a H&Away match which had NO bearing on Sydneys hopes that season. there was only about 30,000 ppl there, little atmosphere, they were cellar dwellers, going no where, and richmond were about 4 goals up if i remember and ended up winning by 6goals(i think). Also Turners bump was a move which inspired his team mates and helped change the sway of the match, a VERY important match(probably the most important match we have had since the 82 grand final, even still). It was a calculated heavy bump made for a purpose. Derm hit a bloke (a captain) in a nothing match playing for a nothing team. He just wanted to hurt the bloke

Scotty Turners efforts were frikken inspiring.
Legal yet vicious.

I was sitting no more than 4 metres from that hit on O'Donnell. The crack was as loud a bump as you'd ever hear, even in front of 80,000 screaming nutcases. Bumped into O'Donnell about 4 weeks later at a pub and told him where I was sitting. Stated "I thought Scotty had killed you mate". He replied "So did I champ". Then bought me a beer. One of the only blokes to don the black and red that I would ever have time for.

BTW, Dermies a c*ck.

Was an earth shuddering bump and O'Donnell would be one of the fairest players ever to play the game. Just went about his business with a minimum of fuss.

So you're going off at Dermie for belting a bloke and then want to ring up and 'ask him if he belted Free'? Why you so ********ed off about something you're not even sure happened. Somehow i don't think hitting someone affects their knees either.

Dermie did give as good as he got.

The day Worsfold cleaned him up was absolutely sensational!
But then the day Lockett cleaned up Worsfold was even better

LOL

Tony Free was my hero, the day he called it quits was a sad day for all tigers.

I still get a fat thinking about that bump on o'donnell. Was a game changing incident.

LMAOOO@Barring up over a hip and shoulder.

Bummers schit themselves when they knew Psycho Turner was playing hard.

I expect Wallace to make this type of play our blueprint.

People forget that he pole-axed Grenvold in the same game as well ( i think ) .

"stopper" was another one of our lynchpins who was cut down in his prime by a career ending injury , i challenge anyone to come up with a list like ours of players who have had thier careers ended by injury .

Charles , Turner and Freezer are but three , i`m sure there are more , i`ll think of them
