Lockett Is the Goat. **** knows how many goals he would have kicked if he had not missed near on 100 games through injuries and suspension. Man was a 112kg Highly skilled Powerhouse Beast. Freak of a player.

4 goals in the first half, opening of the match.

Keep moving the goalposts and you’ll have 9 goals of your own and a norm smith.
Which most came after Hawthorn was already 40 points up and took the foot off, the games was over at quarter time and if it wasn't for injuries Hawthorn would have flogged Geelong by 100+ like they did in round 1 the next year

You clearly weren't there or haven't seen the game properly.
Regarded by most footy people as the greatest individual GF performance ever.
And to think his game the week before was even better.

Hawks didnt take their foot off. Had a couple of players who should have been in ICU. Dipper played on with a deflated lung ffs

Doesn’t matter mate.

You can play the greatest game ever but if you weren’t stopping goals from a half forward flank and propping up the defence from 120 metres away it doesn’t count

Probably couldn’t see the screen properly after years of watching Ablett goals sail over the Tigers cheer squad would be my best guess

Delusional. Lockett would eat Rance for breakfast. The only way Rance has any effect is if they're playing in today's era where team defence helps him out immeasurably. One out like Silvagni back in the 90's? Wouldn't last the half. Richmond were hiding him on lesser forwards for god's sake.

Agreed.
Lockett never played on a defender with the athleticism or game smarts as Rance. Watch some games from the 80s and look at the defenders back then, they're horrible... It's just where the runts of the litters play, and they have no idea how to defend.. they just follow their forward around like a dog on a leash and try to punch the ball. Rance is stronger, faster, MUCH MUCH fitter, better vertical leap, much much much smarter than any defender Lockett played on, that's just reality as much as it hurts your nostalgic bubble.

Beat up on a bottom 4 side, would have shit himself playing against the Richmond sides of the 60s and 70s

As opposed to say, The Hawthorn sides of the 80s and early 90s who, noted especially for being shit, he averaged 4 goals a game against. Or the other power side of the era, Essendon. Who he struggled mightily with for 4.5 goals a game

Nah I’m sure he’d have been quaking in his boots mate

It’s only that he got to line up against the likes of Paul Bullis occasionally that got him into football folklore

He’s much much fitter because every campaigner playing the sport is much much fitter.

How do people not understand this

Do you really think in this day and age, with fitness programs, academies, three month pre seasons, that Lockett wouldn’t be faster and more athletic and fitter if he played today?

Yet Ablett only played in 3 wins against Hawthorn, yes they would have really been shiting themselves when he line up against them

The bloke manning him would

But no it was clearly on the guy kicking 25 points a game that we lost to such a good side.

Same as it was Richo’s fault the Tigers spent a 15 years where they couldn’t have beaten Helen Keller at darts

Lol when you dominated a team so much I don't think you would care if you let one of their players kick a few meaningless goals, after all it is a team game

Perhaps not.

I guess it’s why it’s ok seeing your mob actually do something finally.

Btw, interesting that now it’s a team game but earlier it was a forward’s failt that the Hawks kicked a raft of goals early in the 89 decider.

What are you up to now, 6? 7? Quick, junk time’s coming. Better kick some more.

Exactly it's a team game maybe if Ablett had played for his team instead of himself he might have been able to see some success, basically the Dangerfield of his day

It’s a great point he should have lined up on Dunstall. Just toddled off after his one goal and said that’s enough, we will defend those 6 points and should get home comfortably.’

Or you know he could've moved onto the ball and try have an impact instead of getting scab goals on the flank

Yeah he should have pushed the captain who was a 3 time all australian in 7 years aside, or the Brownlow medalist from 5 days earlier, or the 4 time all australian, or the other All Australian on-baller, or the ruckman, or the 220 gamer.

And once again, Ablett was the only forward that day who defeated his opponent (Langford).
It's not his fault our midfield crapped themselves again and allowed Hawthorn to boot 10 goals in the last quarter.

Stop posting.
