Kicked goals and marked a ball:rolleyes: The AFC won two Premierships without him, he was not a player who was good with second efforts, and in general as a person isnt the greatest bloke going around........in saying that I mean his physical abuse towards women.

Just my 2 cents worth.

2 cents worth?

considerably less than that

We won two GF without Modra he played in neither GF.

24 games a season before you make the GF, modra played all in 97 except the gf.

won the coleman in 97 as well. Our side for that GF was a makeshift side that wouldnt last long as in a whole season.

The work load put on Ellen and D jarman that day was something that caught St Kilda by surprise

This couldnt win the ball at ground level statement also shows your hatred off him for other reasons blinds your acknowlagement of his on field contribution.

In 93 we wouldnt have made the finals without him, he simply provided one of the best year any Full Forward had ever.

To watch him was simply was awe inspiring.

In the Dark days of losses in Victoria many said you could never question his work ethic like alot of other supposed name players.

People forget some of our players got jealous of his attention and wouldnt kick the ball to him and he got **** at the club from players as he got the attention as a result of his performances and model looks.

Now you have dramas off field with him, that is completely legit but downplaying and twisting his significant on field contribution as a result makes you not much better than what you dont like about him.

Does anyone remember where Tony Modra finished in the AFC Best and fairest in 1997?

That would be a very good indication of his value to the premiership.

Not when he did his knee in the 1st quarter of the PF he isnt the reason why we got there.

Don't see your logic there. One game does not a season make. I remember watching him shuffle across to the guys (on crutches) when the siren sounded and thinking he should have been there, he deserved the medal as much as anyone on the ground.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

If we didn't trade him to Freo for a burnt pepper steak we'd have actually made a half-decent fist of the threepeat, making the finals at the very least.

His ridiculously good season for Freo in 1999 - 71.43 from 20 games in an awful side that finished 15th with 5 wins - makes you wonder what he could've done with Ricciuto, McLeod, Goodwin, Johnson and Jarman delivering the ball on a platter.

fair point but maybe he had a point to prove and maybe we could never of provided the baggage free enviroment he got in freemantle.

Agreed, it wasn't the Messiah's best decisions.

Trading Modra was the WORST decision this club has ever made!

When you have a player thats a proven match winner and rare as hens teeth then you hold on to him. I know he was no angel but his indisgressions were nothing major and nothing that couldn't be handled.

I know we eventually got Thompson for Mods but seriously, you never let that type of player leave. Just too bloody valuable.

i doubt we had a choice.. the rumours i have heard was modra cleaned out his locked once he got dropped in 1998

We had a choice.

Blight's man management and tantrums were atrocious and unprofessional at times.

He got away with it - and still does - due to the Messiah cult of personality that sprang up due to the two Premierships. 9 Crows fan out of 10 (99 out of a 100?) will dismiss any if not all criticisms of Blight's tenure because of the flag factor, but that doesn't mean he was infallible or that his methods were essentially right.

I've also heard the Modra locker story and to be honest, I still can't blame him.

He was flat out humiliated to the point of scapegoated in that Melbourne game.

Differences, supposed attitudes or not, absolutely atrocious way to treat a player who was arguably the difference between the Adelaide Football Club being a credible force or a Fremantle-style outfit in those crucial early years.

I can't blame Mods either... loved the man to bits. BUT, I loved Malcolm to bits too, and I don't believe that was the only reason he dropped Mods - more like the straw that broke the camel's back. ;) Did Mods do anything much when he went to Freo? (Can't remember now it was so long ago :D ). We haven't had a true FF since the demise of Mods. Every year people lament the fact that we have no KP FF. I think however, it has worked for us in a round about kind of way. We don't rely on ONE person (like a Lloyd, or Tredrea, or Lynch, or Brown etc etc. We make it tough on the oppositions defence knowing which player to shore up. And while it hasn't worked for us completely, the makings are there for something special (should they get their forward entry strategies right).

When you look at the goings on that have been tolerated out West it makes Mods' tendency for scallywaggery look tame in comparison.

Not condoning any negative behaviour by any stretch, but as Stifler said, you have no option to get the best out of your marquee players as without them the entire club loses.

Trading him for a couple of callipos and a Bertie Beetle showbag was a soft option.

While having an even forward line can be very beneficial at times, it can also be extremely detrimental. Going into the business end of the season it is practically a Premiership prerequisite to have someone on board who is very capable of kicking a bag and making the difference.

I have no doubt in my mind that if we had a Pavlich/Tredrea/Riewoldt/Fevola/Brown/Hall/Lloyd in our forward-50 in 2005/06 we'd now be polishing two more cups and posing questions like "threepeat?" with as much seriousness as Bulls fans did when MJ was playing second fiddle to Lucien Longley Esq. IV.

Back in 1999 we traded a proven spearhead to Fremantle for relatively nothing - our injury-ravaged side struggled to kick a cat, while Mods booted 71 goals in the colour purple. Spewin ey.

Nothing like a bit of honesty, DT. :thumbsu:

I'm eternally grateful to Blighty for getting us those 2 flags. Eternally.

Do I respect Malcolm Blight?

Not on your sweet bippy!! His man-management skills were atrocious as was his victimization of certain players.

His drafting was very ordinary. Balrajh Singh FFS?

In year 3 it all unravelled and he left the club in a mess. :(

He's always done this. He rode Michael Turner and Neville Bruns (?) out of the Geelong footy club to make a point.

he's never been afraid of burning people. problem is that the club remains after he and his mess have left.

bloody good coach though. even on match days :D
