Your form isn't better than St Kilda's.

In the last month Essendon have been belted by Carlton and Collingwood. They could've quite easily lost to Sydney and they beat the Bulldogs who are absolutely gone. And even before that, against a soulless Adelaide, you were being put to the sword until the Crowbots decided that kicking to a target was for chumps*.

In short, your form hasn't been as good as sitting in the 8 suggests.

*The coach was sacked/walked days later.
Carlton/Collingwood Game had multiple injurie concerns. I would be decently confident against the blues with a full best 22.

We Beat Geelong, Beat Adelaide at home which Geelong just barely managed to do. Up by 5 goals against the Pies until three match injuries started to limit our rotations (doubt we would of won but we wouldn't of lost by the margin we did). Funnily enough Hawthorn is really the only team i think we have no chance against.

You could look at our form in multiple ways. I think we sit perfectly to where we are at. (perhaps 6th)

You've got your head in the sand.

Carlton's midfield and forward line will wipe the floor with you.

Adeliade now, and Adelaide a month ago are like chalk and cheese. Collingwood extended the margin due to injuries, but they were also pretty flat early in that game, so it cuts both ways.

Ahh yes so it just happened when we had close to our best 22 playing and in form we drew with them despite coping 2 ACLS to our main runners within the first quarter

Adelaide game was dicey i agree. But our second half was better than their first :thumbsu:

So playing and winning and not losing by 100+ interstate was a big win for us.

We really are around 6-7th. Would you really rate us 9th and below?... Because we will finish this year with 11.5 - 12.5 wins probably despite us going through a major form slump. With some terrible run with injuries and one of the hardest draws this year.

Do the bombers ever have their 'best 22' playing? Round 4 was an anomaly look at the other recent results between Essendon and Carlton.

These were our player outs with Carlton's equivalent playing.

Obviously had something to do with it.

Watson: Judd
Hocking: Robinson
Lonergan: Curnow
Dempsey: Yarran
Winderlich: Ellard/Simpson
Pears (2nd half): Jamison
Hooker: Henderson
Fletcher: NFI. Laidler + Duigan?

That's not even including:

Gumbleton: Hampson?
Hibberd: Laidler
Welsh: Joseph

(not my work).

He's on drugs that bloke.

Considering you guys made a thread on this in your opinion when could Essendon challenge for a flag??
2013-14 possibly.

I can see Ess, Dees and possibly GC and (don't laugh) Rich being up there around about that time.

Will be fun seeing which of you or Carlton - or indeed Collingwood - get to #17 first. But of course, before all that happens I just want us to get to #11. :D

Well hopefully you get to #11 this year and stop the Pies wining back to back and also laugh at them when they have to sack MM after the GF :D

I honestly think Hird and co have done a good job this year. And have provided the fans with much to look forward to, but to snare a flag this year is beyond, I suspect the most optimistic Essendon supporter. So, in that context, this thread is more about the stupidity of Tony Shaw.

Carlton were a bit off that day, to be honest. Their formline over the entire season backs this up.

Their midfield is streets ahead of Essendon's.

Adelaide's second half gifted Essendon the ball continually. It was one of the worst performances forward of the centre that I've witnessed all year.

I think you're bottom end of the 8 and will play 1 final.

This was pretty funny but everyone knows he is trying to get the attention of collingwood. we can barely make the eight let alone win the flag, but should be there in a few years. many expected us bottom 4 so im happy to just make finals.

LOL every thread nowadays contains an essendon and carlton argument on who is better. Carlton are better at beating the bad teams, whereas essendon can beat the bigger teams (unless carlton beat hawthorn).

Go back and apply the same logic to Sydney or St K's form. Or Freo or North's for that matter.
They've beaten no-one. St K have beaten one finals side all year; Sydney not since round 3. St Kilda can scrap and scrag all they like, they can't beat anyone. Our form is better than any of those.

There is one side that the Top4 teams have been keeping an eye on and monitoring the rise of, and it's not Essendon, no matter what you think.

WCE, I would presume.

I don't really know why you argue so consistently against things I've never said. I don't really care who the other sides are monitoring. It's blindingly obvious there's a gap between us and Carlton this year. When you look at the draw you realise St K have only won at Etihad vs mid-range sides, or away against shit sides; and Sydney have dropped off since round 12 or so.

You honestly think St Kilda would beat Essendon, or Sydney would win away, in an EF?

Ok, and with the faint chance that Essendon might meet St Kilda and get over the top of them, let me quantify my opinion by saying this.
St Kilda are a proven side over the last 4 years, who've played off in the last 2 Grand Finals. Their best is better than most.

Essendon are a middle of the rung side, coming off a bottom 4 finish. At your best, you can compete with a top 4 side, but when being rated up against a side like St Kilda(knowing what they are capable of) with the consistency they've shown in recent memory, you're the poorer team.

Historically, that is all true.

Historically, basing an older team's future form off what they did a year or two ago is about as dumb as you can get.
