Some moments missed - which shouldn't have been

* Billy kicking a point against the Bears in 92, that point gave us the record for the highest score. I was at the match and nobody around me at all seem to have any idea of the significance at all, going to Carrara in those days was a very surreal experience.
* Ablett shining in 92 at Subi, first win in the West and the monkey was off our back.
* Beating WCE comfortably at the WACA in '93 - to cap off a run of five wins all against the top five of the time all margins varied between comfortable and schellacking. We still missed the finals but at the time it didn't feel like it
* Round 6 2007 against Richmond, was a match like day following night
This game killed me. We needed % to make the finals and only won by 20 points.
We opened the game with I think the first 3 goals of the game and looked set to win nicely (a 10 goal win for eg would have us trade places with the eagles) but the eagles ended up in front at 3/4 I think, or just behind.
A cracking last quarter from our boys got us over the line but we needed more.
We would have won 93.

I dont blame us, I blame ****ing Adelaide. Or Collingwood- depends what angle ya coming from.

I remember listening to that game, wearing my black and white friendship bracelet (hey it was 1993 and was 13yo  ), barracking my ass off For Collingwood.

**** em.

Mine comprise 3 places each to the 2007/2009/2011 final sirens.
And 1 place to Enright's pick up handpass the other week.
And an HM to Mooney's first-time sidefoot pass from the boundary line to his mate in front of the goals the other year.

So many great moments to list. Anyway, for what it's worth:

1. 2007 Grand Final - Geelong v Port Adelaide
This will never be beaten. Breaking a 44-year drought, utterly destroying a very good and in-form team in Port. People forget it's the only huge Grand Final win that was 1st v 2nd (the previous record - Hawthorn over Melbourne by 96 points in 1988, was 1st vs 5th). To play that sublimely, that purely on the biggest stage of all under the most pressure, was just incredible. People also forget that most of the first quarter was pretty even, it was only late in the quarter we got on top. I vividly recall the moment when Rooke kicked the 2nd goal of the second quarter, I felt a chill when it dawned on me that not only were we able to win the premiership, we almost certainly were going to.

Plus I didn't have to pay to get in. Made it even better.

2. 2011 Grand Final - Geelong v Collingwood
Fantastic, quality win against a top opponent. The best way to win I think - neck and neck for three quarters, then pull away in the last. Hawkins' last quarter left us all awestruck. Good time to produce. Plus it was the first Grand Final with my baby daughter (who duly squawked all through the telecast) so that was pretty cool as well.

3. 2009 Grand Final - Geelong v St.Kilda
Talk about a gritty win. A very tough opponent who won 19 straight during that season. Coming from behind after trailing at every change. Reversing the mid-season loss to them. I'll never forget the atmosphere at the Punt Road end in the closing stages, the mayhem after Chapman's goal, the near mayhem after Rooke's soccered point, and the absolute bedlam once the siren went (apologies to the lady whose son I threw in the air).

4. 2007 Qualifying Final v North Melbourne
This game gets forgotten too often. A brutal, clinical destruction of a pretty useful team, made the more joyous by Laidley's idiotic stirring before the game that once the finals started everyone was equal. I also thoroughly enjoyed Glenn Archer being brutally humiliated by Chappy, then even outmarked by Stokes. Leigh Brown's comedy moments in the first quarter still bring laughter. A great day. (Also Part 1 of the only time in history a side was won by 100+ points twice in one finals series)

5. 1989 Preliminary Final v Essendon
The best individual performance I've ever seen by any player. To turn around a 76-point whipping we received a fortnight earlier was amazing, but to see Ablett exhibit the full range of party tricks in the best conditions possible was an experience I'll never forget. People need to understand it wasn't just he was starring, he was doing things no one had ever seen before. And doing it every week.

6. 2009 Qualifying Final v Footscray
This is mainly due to the reaction of the Dogs players after they beat Collingwood (I think) in the final home and away game, and due to percentage were told they were avoiding St.Kilda and facing us. They were celebrating like they'd already won the flag, perhaps as they'd beaten us in Round 21 they thought they had their measure. When it was 7 goals to 1 early in the second quarter our way the expression on Dogs' fans faces was priceless. Enright, Scarlett and Milburn stopped everything and we led from start to finish. Another great day.

7. Round 19, 2012 v Hawthorn
Had to include this. The best evidence yet on how you must be patient with young players was how Hawkins stepped up in late 2011 to the present, and certainly this game against Hawthorn. Not for the first time, he obliterated Schoenmakers and people seriously underestimate how hard it is to kick a 60m drop punt after the siren. Fatigue, pressure, you name it, he conquered them all. The wonderful, glorious slow-motion replay of the Hawthorn neanderthal in the crowd throwing his cap or scarf to the ground in disgust makes it even more beautiful.

8. Round 19, 2011 v Melbourne
Some fans for an unknown reason don't like one-sided slaughters; I do. Unbelievable game from start to finish, and the killer instinct to keep the pressure on way after they needed to was a great sign of what was to come in the finals. Just fell short but still an amazing day. Plus they followed up with a 150-point win over Gold Coast the next week.

9. Round 7, 1989 v St.Kilda
This was the week after we lost to Hawthorn after leading by 56 points early in the second quarter. At half time it was Geelong 16.6 to St.Kilda 10.6 (or thereabouts). We were all wondering if they'd collapse again or keep going. At three quarter time Geelong were 27.12 (then a record). Ended up winning by 119 points with Gavin Exell following up his 9 against Hawthorn with 8 goals. It set up an awesome 6 weeks where the question wasn't if we'd win it was how and by how much. Amazing free-flowing football.

10. First Semi-Final 1989 v Melbourne
Had to finish with another Ablett masterclass. 7 goals 7 against Melbourne who had beaten us once that year, and a team of greater frontrunners you would never find. Close for three quarters, then a final quarter of 10.10 (!!!) saw us ease to a 63-point thrashing. Shane Hamilton played an amazing game as well.

It wasn't that so much as Collingwood leading by 5 goals or so early against Adelaide then falling in a heap. Still the lessons were harsh but obvious; just have to win more games in home and away so you don't rely on anyone.

Maybe it was and is a mistake.

1997-1999 is really the only period of my childhood that I didn't follow every Geelong match.
I'd love to say I'm right, but unfortunately we know human memories are horribly fallible. It's the right era to have a poor recollection of Geelong matches too. I can recall quarter by quarter scores from 1989 or even 1992, but there's a gap between 1998-2001 where there are entire matches I've completely forgotten about.

So many moments for this great Club
In no particular order :

1) Start of my love affair - the artistry and understanding that Farmer and Goggin had , Farmers ability to put it exactly where Goggin was going to be.
2) Richmond Game 07 - kick starter to our era of dominance , gave me belief that something special was going to happen
3) GF 07 - 44 years and flew to game with my then 11 year old Cats supporting son, hugged everyone within sight , hoarse from singing the song
4) GF 09 - gutsy, gutsy performance , muted celebrations at home though - wife is a lifelong Saint !!
5) GF 11 - At the game with my 15 year old , MCG tour day before , Fed square , convincing 38pt win , Lingys last goal
6) Ablett / Pert mark - was in the pocket and saw it unfold , unbelievable leap from the great man - and he controlled it !!
7) Ablett 14 v Bombers - totally mesmerised , actual result of the game seemed irrelevant at the time
8) Harley - first time I heard him speak I realised we had a top notch leader , sign of the Clubs paradigm shift
9) Ablett highlight tape they always played at Couldabeen champions nights - Footscore , was that you ?
10) Had a slash next to Costa at Subiaco , had a chat and he then escorted me and 6 mates into the Cats function - introduced us to several players and bought us a beer. Ripping bloke !!

Here's my 10 favourite Cats moments (tried to stray away as much as possible from the ones already mentioned, with the exceptions of the premierships)

- 2007 grand final - After 2006, thought I'd never see a Geelong premiership in my lifetime, and I just turned 30 that year. Was glad I was proven wrong.
- 2011 grand final - Was sweet to win that after Pods went down and the Pies fans broke into their "Collllllllingggwoodd" chant while he was going off on the stretcher. Hearing the Geelong version of that chant in the last quarter was like music to my ears.
- 2009 grand final - Scarlo's toe poke was pure genius.
- Round 17, 2009 - Was sitting in front of a group of rabid Hawks fans who were raucous for three quarters, but all we heard from them in the last term was "What the hell is going on out there?" :D
- Round 19, 2011 - Watching Geelong's VFL side kick 31 goals against Casey in the curtain raiser, only to be topped by the seniors kicking 37 goals against Melbourne. Was just an amazing day with some unbelivably breathtaking football being played.
- Round 12, 2004, and beating the Brisbane Lions for the first time in years. Made the guys believe they could beat anyone.
- The game against Freo in 2008 where the Dockers were flying in the first half, before taking their foot off the pedal. Joel Selwood seemed to say "Stuff this" and almost single handedly got us back into the contest before half time, and we ended up winning by a point.
- Otto's contested mark against Wakelin in Adelaide in 2005, and Bomber telling the media to leave him alone after the game. His mark against Sydney when Anthony Hudson wondered if he'd ever come down was pretty impressive too.
- Round 22, 2003 vs St.Kilda. All the media were talking up the Saints as the best young team in the league, which was understandable since they'd won the previous three or four games by big margins. Bomber was adamant our kids were pretty impressive too, and this game proved it.
- Doing voluntary work at the footy club in 2000. Had a ball while doing it. From having Brian Cook introducing himself and shaking hands (pretty impressive I thought) to having lunch with Billy and Ricco (Billy shouted us lunch too!) to helping out at their annual footy clinics to helping out on game day and actually getting out on the ground before a game, it was great fun from start to finish. It's a shame they don't have volunteers anymore, as I'd love to do it again.

Couldn't agree more and there defenitely should be more of it - reminiscent of the English Soccer Chant.
Gave me goosebumps to be there and join in..................

Bout the 2009 GF, we are forgetting the mark Harry Taylor took after a kick in after a st kildea point. If Harry didn't mark it, st kildea could have won the GF.

Was watching the game a couple of weeks ago...I'm still left stunned by Hawkins kick and goal at the start of the last quarter - 50 out on a 45 degree angle, with that howling, swirling wind and slight drizzle. We've been behind most of the day, and Tommy, in his first GF, still to prove himself really, goes back and kicks truly, giving us the lead, that we won't sqaunder, and a Premiership. It's a magnificent moment that sometimes get lost due to the toe-poke, but just as important and inspiring.

1. 2011 GF. Written off for the whole 12 months prior and then beating the supposedly unbeatable Collingwood in the GF has to be first for me. Like others had stated, when hearing the Collingwood flogs get way ahead of themselves in the 2nd quarter, I didn't want to see Pods go down but I still had plenty of believe in my team. I was with a large group at a pub that day watching the game. I was the only Geelong supporter amongst the group but the rest, barring one Collingwood supporter, were all barracking for us. When Pods went down they were all starting to give up, but I casually said 'don't panic, it's far from over'. So then for us to go on and win in the fashion we did that day, was truly special. To give it back to the Collingwood supporters with our chant topped it off. I never sang the team song so proud as I did that day!

2. 2009 GF - Hard slog but guts and determination and a toe poke got us there. The fact we were also written off before the finals made the win all the sweeter again.

3. 2007 GF - After the heart ache through the 90s it was good to put the hoodoo to bed.

After this I struggle to put them in order, so its kinda random from here.

Hawkins goal after the siren against the Hawks last year. The atmosphere at the ground was amazing! Still fresh in the memory obviously.

Ablett Snr kicking 14 goals against the Bombers 20 years ago in a losing side. I have this here because I was there to see it and he did it all that day.

Abletts goal after the siren - 94 prelim final

Billy's goal after the siren - 94 QF final

Watching Brownless tear up at the end of the 2007 GF. Showed his love of the club and what all those GF losses during his career meant to him, and all of us really.

The other 9 victories against the Hawks since 2008 GF!
