Not doing a top 100 today, but just wanted to highlight some parallels in our music appreciation. Love all of those bolded albums.

I enjoy your posts and will listen to more of the albums within this list as I'm sure I'll find more I like. Thanks for sharing.

All pretty big zeitgiest LP's, but my Arctic Monkey's nod is actually the first album.

Reckon Animals will end up climbing over the years.

Fixed (with little real change lol)

Animals, Amnesiac and Aenima all took turns as my #2 around 2006-07 when I was finishing school and heading out into the world, each fallen away a bit since then but stabilised.

Decent observation. 2020 was probably the first year I’ve got into jazz, but I could imagine in future years John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and Eric Dolphy would be in there.

Both MAAD City and TPAB would have been on the cusp, but I haven’t listened to either enough, plus Blonde, which is a total mood album. Flower Boy would be another that i reckon will make the list in a couple of years. Otherwise I haven’t listened to much black music.

In terms of Asian artists, I like Boris and Boredoms, but they haven’t become staples yet. Flood would be a close nomination, but Boris hasn’t migrated it to Spotify yet.

Cant say much for female artists. Soviet Kitsch by Regina Spektor is an obvious exclusion, which probably deserves to be there. I was sure I put Dummy in, but it hadn’t come up? Otherwise there just aren’t a heap of female artists I listen to.

I found this a difficult task to narrow it down to 100 albums and then put them in some sort of order. Plenty of good albums have missed out. This is what I’ve come up with today but it would probably be a lot different on another day.

Stevie Wonder’s Fulfillingness’ First Finale was the easiest. It is by far my favourite album. Unfortunately, I rarely listen to it now because if I do, the songs keep swirling around in my head and repeating over and over for weeks and weeks.

There are a lot of albums in the lists already posted, by artists I haven’t listened to or in some case never heard of. I'm looking forward to listening to some of them. I guess a lot depends on the era you grew up in.

Both MAAD City and TPAB would have been on the cusp, but I haven’t listened to either enough, plus Blonde, which is a total mood album. Flower Boy would be another that i reckon will make the list in a couple of years. Otherwise I haven’t listened to much black music.

In terms of Asian artists, I like Boris and Boredoms, but they haven’t become staples yet. Flood would be a close nomination, but Boris hasn’t migrated it to Spotify yet.

Cant say much for female artists. Soviet Kitsch by Regina Spektor is an obvious exclusion, which probably deserves to be there. I was sure I put Dummy in, but it hadn’t come up? Otherwise there just aren’t a heap of female artists I listen to.

As far as Jazz goes I can recommend Weather Report's, Blackmarket and Heavy Weather albums.
A female artist that I can also recommend is Australia's, Tal Wilkenfeld and her album "Love Remains". She's an amazing Bass player, wonderful songwriter. Her lyrics paint pictures and she's a great singer. Well worth having a listen to.

It's been a while since I've done one of these, and you've certainly piqued my interest in doing another, though I should get my end-of-year list in order first. Too much music has come out these last few years, so much great s**t I know I've completely forgotten about.

In the interim, I'd be happy to flick some jazz reccs your way if you have any favourites so far?

Still haven’t really explored much jazz except for the old staples: Coltrane, Davis, Shorter etc.

I listened to Let My Children Hear Music earlier in the year and it turned me onto Third Stream jazz.

Anything that sounds vaguely nostalgic and incorporates some classical instruments interests me.

Electronic jazz eg Nujabes, BadBadNotGood is kind of the next frontier for me and there’s likely a million decent artists in that bucket.

Of the old staples, Black Unity by Pharoah Sanders is my favourite, and maybe my favourite album ever. It's probably the main album that got me into jazz, and the album I use to get my mates into jazz. Alice Coltrane's Journey in Satchidananda is another one that falls into that category, and sounds as good as anything else I own on vinyl.

On the latter front, I'd highly recommend Makaya McCraven. He's just a s**t hot jazz drummer that basically tries to make instrumental hip-hop from live free improv recordings. He also did a beautiful reworking of Makaya McCraven's We're New Again last year.

I’ve listened to Turiya Sings a couple of times, but need to get listening to Alice Coltrane on a broader level. Always see her albums high up on end of year lists, abc really like her vibe.

I’ll have to look into Makaya McCraven.

Turiya Sings took a few listens to really click for me. I'd always thought it was pretty stunning, but then one night listening to it while sitting on the front steps and looking at the stars with an old housemate was one of the most blissful experiences I can recall.

There may or may not have been some external factors which made it so blissful though...
