Based on these rankings the Beatles are the most successful Artist of All-time! Madonna is the most successful female artist of all-time and Elton John is the most successful male artist of all-time. Elvis was a suprise being ranked No.4 as I thought he would of been ranked atleast No.2

2 things it's told us

1 - popular music isn't always good music
2 - typical of the yanks there are some huge british bands left off - led zep and the who. didn't notice eric clapton on there either or the kinks.

very suprisingly the doors (an american band as well) aren't on there.

means **** all really.

I think its hard to draw any conclusions from it when we can't even realise what statistics are used. Jay-Z who has had TEN #1 Albums isn't there, as pointed out Metallica and Led Zep who have sold heaps of records aren't either, so it seems to be some weird statistics used

That artists included has me convinced that the list is for "singles" and not albums.

That would explain the inclusion of such acts like Huey Lewis and the News/Toni Braxton and the exclusion of acts like Pink Floyd, Led Zep and Metallica.

I thought that, but surely U2 would be on the list then, and acts like Simon and Garfunkel above 50 Cent

i have a feeling this is including singles as well as album sales, which could explain why artists like led zeppelin and pink floyd aren't on the list. while LZ had numerous number one albums they only had one single go top 10, being 'whole lotta love'. in comparison madonna will has her records go to number one and then two or three singles from each record go to number one as well

madonna has released 87 singles in comparison to LZ's 20 (4 of which are re-releases)

I would say it's a singles list as the Bee Gees sales are much higher than 12th when albums are included.

Led Zeppelin were much much much more popular in the US than they ever were in the UK

It must be based on singles chart positions in the US and nothing else.

It definitely isn't based on sales.

On the contrary, the Eagles are way lower than what I expected and they are a US band.

Queen are low down as well, considering their popularity and sheer amount of hit singles.

Where did you get this list because that list is wrong it doesn't tell you on how many records they sold.

Aerosmith,Journey and Led Zeppelin have sold millions alone in the USA you have Jefferson Airplane/Starship in there and i know they haven't sold more then Aerosmith.
