If it turns out that Carlton finish 5th and Essendon finish 8th. We obviously get a home final but would it be at etihad or MCG (due to the large crowd)? Carlton play better at MCG and Essendon play better at etihad so i would hope the AFL give us MCG :) . What do u guys think?

I think Hardwick might dispute that, hopefully he has planted a seed for the rest of the year for the umpires!

Yeah, me too. The Tigers fans must have been having fits and so they should. Serves em right for being Tigers fans in the first place though.:D

Its a dream match for the AFL. Would be a sell out at either ground so the AFL will go with the biggest money. Has to be the MCG.

its a hard one......

FINISH 5TH......
THE GOOD
-
We will win our first final in some time, boys will be on a high:thumbsu:
Probably be Essendon we send packing:D
THE BAD-
We lose we're out first week AGAIN!!! biggest embarrassment....we would never live it down to essendon supporters....
Win Fly to Perth week 2:thumbsd:

FINISH 4TH.....
THE GOOD
-
A free shot at Pies, win we go straight to a prelim:cool: and can laugh at all our pie friends:D
Lose and we fight again.
THE BAD-
West coast at Etihad....have already beaten us there,,,,
Straight sets if we were to lose. Win and we're in a prelim...vs prob Cats (winnable)

I want 4th, but the way its looking 5th will mst likely be were we end up.

100% without a doubt an Essendon final would be at the G

A concern would be if Essendon get into 7th (so Saints v Bombers final), and we end up playing a Freo/Sydney/North/Bulldogs at the Dome.

They would all be automatic wins at the G, but play it at the dome and it tightens up signifcantly. Surely as the higher ranked team (compared to Saints) the blues would have some sort of right to choose which ground they play at.

Would seriously crack it, if this scenario played out and we were at Ethihad. Effectively would become a home game for the Roos or Bulldogs!!

If we did get 4th amd played the eagles in the 2nd week. Game would definatly be at the G. pretty sure they only use Ethihad if its impossible to fixture the game at MCG. (i.e 4 melbourne games in first week of the finals). Think that was in the contract signed with the MCC

Like most here well end up 5th on the ladder by end of season. Reason being, it would be great to win the last ‘3 games’ before finals, but I’d have to say that structures and game plans would be first and foremost going into any final regardless of win/loss.

In my opinion our best game of the season was in round 9 against Geelong, and don’t forget we played that at Etihad stadium. I believe if structures are right and skills are spot on well deliver major blows to any side let alone top 4 sides including the biggest stage of them all the Holy Grail.

Yea a few other posters are saying we are guaranteed MCG unless its being used... and etihad will be the next option of course.

If we end up winning our first final we most likely go on to play WC at Subi... Would rather there than Etihad. We win against WC than we get MCG all the way and we beat collingwood by a point in the GF.

More chance of Chris Judd knocking Rebecca back when tapped on the shoulder during the night then a Carlton vs Essendon final being played at Etihad.....seriously!!!

That is probably going to the the one serious drawback of 5th place. Assuming we get through that 1st final, then a trip to Perth will most likely await. Other than playing Collingwood, thats probably the next hardest game on the calendar. Having said that, the eagles have had a charmed run with injuries this year, and with a few pulling up sore from yesterdays game maybe that might be about to change....

Didn't Collingwood have to travel to Adelaide in 2008 to play against ythe Crows, only to win that match despite being ridden off?

Given we have the bye, finishing fifth should be fine. If we can't beat Essendon, we aren't going to win either of our opponents from wk1 and 2 of finals provided we were to finish there.

Not riding off the chance Carlton can finish 3rd as we have to play the Hawks, and they might yet lose to the Dogs. Also, WCE's Rosa (knee) and Cox (hip) are injured - which might help us retain fourth. Even if WCE hang on and win all their remaining games, if they go into finals without Cox we will win for sure come the semis.

Just saw the news yesterday. Tom Williams is out for the season. Can't see Dogs beating Hawthorn now, with their injury list.

Top5 should look like this:

Collingwood
Geelong
Hawthorn
West Coast
Carlton

We can do this for sure! If you think logically, there is no shame in 5th spot and winning three games in a row to get to the big one is very doable considering those teams will most likely be Essendon (at the ground we smashed them at a couple of weeks ago), West Coast (at a ground we play well due to our speed in the open spaces, and now without an injury depleted team), and Geelong (at a ground we have beaten them on the past two occasions, and with a team that is better than our previous encounter).

There is always that dark horse team in a finals series that you don't want to come up against. Ladies and gents, in 2011 we are that team.
