I think the Hawthorn one could almost be split in 2 or 3.
I know it says from 1980-2009 but I'd think quite a few of the Hawks of '83 might have been around since the mid to late 70s. (don't forget they played in GFs in '75, '76 and '78 for 2 flags) By the time '84-'86 had gone I suspect all of them from that '70s era would have all been gone save for probably Dipper, Eade, Wallace and 1 or 2 others I can't think of.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
By the time probably '86 came along there were a lot of new ones coming in again.
A Hawthorn person was on the radio the other day and said that between '83 and '89 it was almost a completely different side.

I mean from '71 to '91 (21 completed seasons) they played in 12 gfs for 8 flags, that's awesome.

I think there a a few Hawk players (Tuck,Brereton Dipper, Dunstall) who may have played in all of those flags??

Essendon 1983-1985 Two flags back to back three Grand finals should be at least 4th on this list possibly even third with Carltons spread over seven years with a downturn in between.

I reckon West Coast should be above North.

Not sure about Carlton either... the second and third flag of that 'dynasty' were 5 years apart... in fact, I dare say the team sheets would have been so different you technically couldn't even relate them.

1. Hawthorn
2. Brisbane
3. West Coast
4. North Melbourne
5. ???

That is a great run the Hawks had. Will never be beaten.

Blues from 1968 - 1999 weren't too bad either = 13 GF's for 8 flags.

Carlton 1981-1987 (4 Grand Finals, 3 Premierships) is being a bit selective. I would have opened it out to:

1979-1987 (5 Grand Finals, 4 Premierships).

The mosquito fleet of Ashman, Buckley, Johnston, Harmes, Sheldon, Keogh, etc. were one to salivate over and are the equal of most on-ball divisions listed elsewhere when you add Percy Jones, Wow Jones, Justin Madden and Fitzpatrick as rucks.

Add in forwards of the class of Bosustow, Kernahan and Maclure up forward and include Southby, Doull, Silvagni, Jesaulenko and Hunter up back and they are a dream combination.
