Actually, I'll put a top ten

1. 4 times 100 metre freestlye relay.

2. Womens Waterpolo.

3. Michael Diamond in shooting.

4. Thorpe in all his swims, even his silver.

5. Michael Fairweather

6. Equestrian Team

7. 1500m

8. Andrew Hoy Equestrian Silver

9. The trampoline guy

10. Liesel Jones, only 14 and already swimming like an experienced swimmer

I agree with that 'top 10' but have to add an 11th. The cycling on Thursday night. One with an ill child - and the other losing his baby son only a couple of months ago. Amazing performance under such personal strains!

Danni,
I forgot all about the cycling! I never knew what those poor guys went through. Not all olympians could cope with that sought of strain or pressure (Perec isn't one of them).
Well done to our aussies for sticking by our country.

We won both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 Freestyle Relays, and got the World Record in both, so you may be thinking about either one, RF#1

My top 5 Aussie Moments:
1. 4 x 100 Relay when Thorpe came from no-where to be Hall Jnr
2. Men's Madison in Cycling, i've always like the points race and the Madison was very good
3. Simon Fairweather in the archery was awesome
4. The Women's Waterpolo in the final second
5. Susie O'Neill in the 200 Freestyle

My Favourite Non-Aussie moments:
1. Eric Mossambini's 1 min 50 sec swim for 100 meters. Touched the heart of everyone.
2. Michael Johnson's win in Round 2 of the 400 metres. He basically walked the last 100 metres. Can't wait for the final.
3. Steve Redgrave winning his 5th consecutive Gold Medal in Rowing
4. USA doing the 100m double with Jones and Greene
5. The Womens American 4 x 100 Medley Relay Gold Medal. That and the Australian 4 x 200 Mens Team are the 2 best best relay sides ever. Both teams beat the WR by about 3 seconds.

ohhhhhh! I loved all those moments too.
I loved watching Shirvo run a 10.13 to get into the semis. But I cried when he just missed out on making it to the finals. Poor Matt!
Next time Shirvo!!!

3. the H2O's last gasp win

4. 4 x 100 swimming relay gold

5. Hackett finally winning.

6. Thorpe world record & gold

7. Andrew Hoy is now a legend

8. The Madison Gold

9. Susie O'Niell, another legend

10. Opening Ceremony

Best non aussie events

1. Inge De Bruin x 3

2. The Equatorial Guinea swim team

3. The too high vault in the womens individual gymnastics

4. Maurice Green

5. ????? Jones 100m women

6. The slow mo wave at the beach volleyball

7. the teams pursuit cycling world record.

8. Triathalons, the scenes were fantastic

9. Perec's record run to Singapore

10. Frankie Fredericks pulling out cos he couldn't win. (at least thats what his doctor reckons)

9.

I think everyones forgotten the biggest moment at the Olymics - the opening ceremony with Cathy lighting the big burner

My second would be the Mens 1500 swim and Perkins heat swim - bloody awsome breaking his Atlanta Gold time.

#3 - The Mens Relay team, I can still picture Thorpie coming from behind in the last 50m of the race to 'smash' Gary Hall Jr like a guitar

#4 - The Womens Waterpolo Gold Medal game last night. I was estatic when it was 3-2, but then when the USA got a goal I thought 'Bloody Hell, the Yanks will try and steal another gold from us in the pool (Like the relays) but how the girls got a goal into the net with 1.5 seconds is amazing.

#5 - Mix between Michael Diamond and Susie's follow-up goal medal performances

My vote goes to Inge de Bruin's chemist for pumping her so full of drugs that nobody can take swimming seriously anymore.

Love live Inge (although this may be a double-edged sword as the drugs she's taken have cut her life expectancy) - the Michelle Smith of Sydney 2000.

I'll play along and do top 5 US moments:

1. Misty Hyman beating Susie O'Neill (sorry about that one guys
wink.gif

2. One night, 8 US swimmers, 8 medals
3. The cycling gold with the victory lap
4. Both 100m finals
5. Both medley relays won with World records

Best non US moments:
1. Swimmer from Equatorial Guinea
2. Australia's guitar salute
smile.gif

3. The gymnastics vault and all the chaos that followed
4. Amy Van Dyken getting wasted in all her events (even WE don't like her)
5. Thorpedo

Funny you mention Inge...not sure if you get the US broadcast at all, but after she won the 50m race, NBC's reporter said to her point blank that "you've improved very surprisingly the last month, what do you have to say about using performance enhancing drugs?". She said this right to her face!

She just said "I refuse to answer that".

I would say there is also a big cloud over van den Hoogenband as well, in fact the maybe the whole Dutch team
Hoogenband has been a finalists but has never been seriously considered gold medal challengers. Now all of a sudden he is a dual World Record Holder.
De Bruyn started her rise around about the Atlanta Olympics, much in the same mould as Hoogenband, then faded back to be a finalist, but never really a gold medal contendor, then just as the Olympics are started to come around again she finds her form again and smashes WR's all over the place.
Theres something a little suspicous there. If Hoogenband drops back to be just inside the top 10 in the World after these Olympics, the suspiocions will be raised.

Isn't Amy Van Dyken from the United States

I've got no problems with Peter VDH - he's a 22 yo who should be at his peak and he's been ranked in the Top 5 in the 100 & 200 for the past few years. He's only taken 1/2 sec off his PB in breaking the WR's.

But De Bruin (the Dutch druggie) is another matter.

She's been a bottom feeder swimmer for the past 10 years and in the space of a year at 27 years of age starts taking 5 seconds off PB's this stinks of high heaven. If she was Chinese the whole swimming world would be calling for expulsions and such. SHE IS A DRUG CHEAT!!!!! Or in reality a smart drug cheat who is using forms of drugs that the useless IOC tests can't catch. Smith in Atlanta also passed all drug tests but in turn a few years later was found to be a drug cheat - expect the same from De Bruin. She's just another disgrace to sport. Hope the bitch does a Flo-Jo (another druf cheat) and dies at 35.

What was Michelle Smith's maiden name? Wasn't it something very similar to De Bruin?
I don't like Hoogie personally, his hands are way too big, he's always touching his face, and also touching Thorpie...
wink.gif
But I don't know that he's a drug cheat.
Inge, however, is. We'll find that out in a couple of years, and be unable to do anything about it.

It's so not fair.
Misty Hymen swam a great race on Thursday, and while I don't think she's a cheat (huge generalisation, but I just don't think the Yanks or Aussies are that stupid and hypocritical), I did hear she's improved her PB by a few SECONDS in the last few months. That's phenomenal if true. Wonder what her secret is given it took Susie years to finally break the world record.

Yes, Hoogenband has been in the top 5 or 10 for the last couple of years.
But no-one expected him to get a medal, let alone smash 2 World Records.
HOwever, the biggest factor in influencing me saying that Hoogenband is a drug cheat, is Inge De Bruyn.
She is definetaly a drug cheat, and she is from the same camp as Hoogenband, and she could very well have influenced him to take drugs.

I said all this about the dutch in another thread, it is a little suspicious, De Bruin in particular. Anyways heres a few dissapointments from the Games in my opinion.

1. Madam Butterfly losing to a girl named Misty !!! That shouldnt have happened and you could see how dissapointed Susie was considering it was her pet event.

2. Thopedo going down to Hoogenband, i thought Ian was superman before that race now he seems a little vunerable.

3. Our women Gymnists not making the teams final. Stupid Vault!!

4. Klim not medaling in the 100 Freestyle and again Klim losing his pet event which he is the world record holder the 100 butterfly!!! So many golds went begging.

5. Emma George not making the Pole Vault final isnt she supposed to be really really good has held the world record on many occasions.

6. Poor Matty Shirvington missing out on the final

WCE;

Amy Van Dyken is from the U.S. but she's something of a prima donna who has been rumoured to spit in other swimmer's lanes among other things. She has a reputation for being a sore loser and a whiner. I think she's a disgrace to our swim team.

Any event the AUSSIES do not win a gold medal.
a. the winner is on drugs
b. Nothing else is there? oh yes
c. When we lose, whinge and whinge often.

It's 99.5% certain that De Bruin is on drugs, it's not only Aussies saying that.

In the races that she won (women's sprints) we suck in anycase so it doesn't affect us if she indeed is a druggie.
