What are your top 5 choices of players, that your club should rookie list? For the roos I'd say:

1.Eddie Betts
2. Heath Grundy
3. Jesse D Smith
4. Jack Juniper
5. Josh Gibson

Whats the story with Jesse D Smith? All the reports I have seen seem good. His CV reads outstanding but got overlooked in the draft. It was a bit of a suprise according to the papers.

Don't know much about him, I'm just following media's reports. I know that he had 30+ touches in TAC cup grand final though, but you can't judge him over one game.

If you go on recent history, North will almost certainly take 2-3 players from Port Melbourne plus probably one other from another VFL club. Over the last couple of years we've shown a real aversion to picking up TAC Cup players for some reason. Outside of Jesse Smith who was unmissable as a father/son and David Trotter who played about three games for Calder, there's been nobody. I'd expect we'll take Gibson and maybe a couple out of Hooker, Finnan and Gieschen, with perhaps a delisted player from somewhere.

Rix is ineligible for the rookie list.

Kirkby would be my first choice but will be taken by Richmond, if not earlier.

1. Grundy
2. Bain
3. Clinton Young
4. Batson
5. Nayna

Realistically it will be a fluke if we get 1 of those players.

1: Ben Sharp
2: Andrew Gillham
3: Luke Jarrad
4: Luke Mullins.

Considering we only have two picks (we kept Dave Fanning and Zane Leonard) take then first two.

I hope for your sake you don't get Batson or Nayna.

I have seen Batson 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years. Just tall, not much else. Was touched up bigtime by smaller, more mobile ruckmen.

Nayna would need to be a lot more disciplined to play at a level higher than TAC. He played a lot of unaccountable footy but looks specy as third man up at boundary throwins.

Actually take off Nayna and add Luke Mullins - forgot him! Collingwood will probably re-draft him.

We have to take at least one young ruckman - I don't want to be pinning my hopes of Campbell and Taylor. Batson seems to be the best of the kids available, along with Van Shaik

1. Eddie Betts
2&3&4 - Ruckman with good size, no point in rookie listing a beanpole
5. Next best forward pocket.

Basically since we will only be using 2 picks, 1 ruckman and 1 forward pocket.

The 4 players I think Richmond should draft though the PSD and rookie draft are:
Jesse D. Smith
Ruory Kirkby
Heath Grundy
Tom Redden

Saw the Calder Cannons play the Eastern Rangers in the T.A.C Cup Grand Final, Jesse D. Smith looked absolutely brilliant. And hes was Calder captain, can't go wrong with Calder captain's at late picks, look at Brent Hartigan.

For midfielders/small players:
#1: Ryan Bain
#2: Ben Sharp
#3: Danyle Pearce
#4: Harry O'Brien
#5: Luke Jarrad

For KPP's:
#1: Heath Grundy
#2: Heath Lawry
#3: Jackson Barling
#4: Beau Wilkes
#5: Clinton Young

For all you guys listing Tom Redden, I think because he's underage he won't be in the rookie draft, as he's got another year of U/18's left to play. I'm not positive about that, but I think it's true, as no one is tlaking about drafting him, Ryan Jackson or Alan Toovey, some of the more high profile players to miss out, and they all have another year of eligibility left.

Doc I agree with you on him. Solidly built tall forward.

JD Smith got a decent article in the Herald Sun today and an interview on SEN, you'd expect someone will pick him up. Hopefully not Carlton ;) Maybe a tad slow but makes up for it in other areas of his game.

Anyone can pick Grundy and Kirkby etc, but a couple of others:

Brendan Van Schiak as a ruckman - had he not done a knee in 2003 he may have been fairly highly rated.

Out of the VFL Luke Jarrad, improved a lot this year. With his talent get him on a weights program and see how he goes.

Ben Jolley was Calder Captain!
