Warning - boredom thread

Just wondering who you believe to be our best 5 players on our list this year. The criteria is up to you, but I see 'best' to mean the players who will do more to win games for us this year than anyone else.

For me:
1 Colin Sylvia - showed us last year what he's capable of, and when he's 'on' there are very few midfielders in the comp that can compare. If he can reach that level consistently in 2010, he could become truly elite. Looks to be enjoying another flawless preseason.

2 Aaron Davey - His pace and kicking skills alone put him our top bracket, with his ability to hit laser-like passes easily the best at the MFC. Hopefully can spend more time forward of centre to truly damage the opposition.

3 James Frawley - Has already developed into a formidable KPD, with some of his work last year outstanding. Has the pace and strength to go with almost anyone in the comp. Should improve even further and become a real general down back.

4 Liam Jurrah - Big call but I can see him regularly winning games off his own boot. Last year was a lovely little taster, now I want the main course, especially after a full preseason. Can dominate in the air or at ground level.

5 Brent Moloney - Had a fantastic 09 and offers so much grunt and leadership in the guts as well as improving his kicking last year. Possible future captain of the MFC.

Unlucky: Brad Green, Cameron Bruce, Jack Grimes, Cale Morton

Over to you guys :thumbsu:

For this year only, as the opening post stipulates:

1. Sylvia - Clearly our biggest gamebreaker
2. Davey - Quality footskills can carve up any defence
3. Jurrah - With his ability to turn fantasy into reality, I'm sure he'll be able to win a game or two for us throughout the course of the season
4. Morton - I'm expecting him to really step up this season, and in doing so, go from a consistent performer to a star
5. Frawley - He can hold the league's best forwards to nothing on his day, and that's a very important asset for a team to possess

1. Brad Green- Would be hailed as one of the to 10 players in the comp if he played for Collingwood or Essendon.

2. Colin Sylvia- I suppose the real test for Col is to cut the gap between his best and his worst. We know how good he can be, and if he can pul up his work rate in the games he struggles in, will be valuable.

3. Aaron Davey- Equal to, and has claims of being our most damaging player. His disposal by foot is unbelievable. Expect more of the same next year.

4. Matthew Bate- Ultra consistent forward who rarely has a bad game. Would be very interested to see how we would cope without him up forward. (You could argue that Dunn could fill in, but why would common sense be used when talking about Dunn??)

5. Frawley- Agreed that he is now coming into his own as an extremely solid defender. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, but Chip will be very important come our premiership window.

Unlucky: Grimes, Morton, Warnock, Jamar, Jones

This year only.

Davey - Our best and most damaging player

Green - Our best leader who is still young enough to influence games

Moloney - We need his size and experience in the middle to assist the youngers mids ie Jones, Grimes, Scully, Trengove etc

Sylvia - Showed glimpses, we need him firing forward of the centre

Rivers - Similiar to Moloney but in defence. To get the best out of our kids we need our experienced players leading the way

Aaron Davey Clearly the best player by foot at the dees, if not the AFL. Would love to see him pushing forward more often this year.

Colin Sylvia- Needs to close the gap between his best and worst games and would be one of the games Elite. Has the body and skills, just needs to improve his mentality.

Liam Jurrah All the fans are expecting a bumper season from him and im sure he will deliver. With a full pre-season under his belt who can predict how many goal or mark of the year nominations he will get?

Austin Wonaeamirri- Injury ruined his season last year but expect him to cause havoc in the forward line with Jurrah this year.

Jamie Bennell There is something Andrew McLeod about him...love the way he goes about his footy.

Hope you don't mind guys but I'd like to give an outsiders point of view on this one?
1- Davey (the opposition would put more work into him than any other player yet he still performs)
2- Sylvia ( i am biased but some of the numbers he put up in certain games last year were in the elite bracket, coming of age)
3- N Jones ( the games I watch Melb, most weeks that is, he is a vital cog in winning the footy out of contests. Underrated IMO
4- B Green (this guy is classy and also underrated, would be a world beater if he was in an essendon or pies jumper. Just gives his all)
5- B Miller (hang on a sec, until Watts and Jurrah develop its vital you have someone to be a target and kick a few. He makes the list as he is the one who most likely do it for you for the next 1-2 years, taking pressure of the other 2 to develop. J Mcdonald will be very good for you too.

Brad wasn't Top 5 even in his "break-out" 26-goal year in 2008.
I hope he can make it but I have grave doubts. He'd do better to try to play a year without "a stinker".

Pretty reasonable view - I considered Miller myself.

I put him in for his importance. You need somebody to play out of the square and make contests. This is crucial to the development of Jurrah and Watts. I really think both will form a great forward combo but just not this year. Your overall side will improve this year so he should be getting more delivery. You need him to get his best up to around 40 goals. Who else will play out the square?

1. Sylvia - If he continues how he finished 2010 he will be an AA
2. Davey - Class act, could also be an AA
3. Green - Under rated
4. Morton - Will continue his development into an elite player
5. Miller - Big year from the big fella. I'm hopeing he brings back the Biff

I think your best players are:

1. Sylvia
2. Davey
3.Jurrah
4. Morton
5. Green

I'll use that criteria. Players who will do more to win games this year than anyone else.

For that reason I'll leave out Green and Bruce. They're nice players but they are flankers/support role players. They've been our best players for the last 2 years which is kinda the reason why we sux.

Davey. The most damaging player we have.

Sylvia. Dynamic player who can break games apart.

Jurrah. A freak of nature.

Morton. Third year rule. Must impose himself and transform himself from a regular to a star.

Grimes. Looks a treat and ready to roll in centre. The quicker he settles in the middle, the better off the demons will be.

2010 Most important players

1. Sylvia
2. Davey
3. Frawley
4. Morton
5. Grimes

The above is where our improvement will come from.

Moloney, Bruce and Green are in our top 5 best players but will not improve much

1. Sylvia - our most destructive player by far and a game breaker in the truest sense of the word. if he turns it on next year he will be in the running for AA honours and possibly and OAM :p

2. Davey - a leader of the club who really took his game to another level last year. hopefully he'll freed up around the HFF delivering it lace out to Watts and Jurrah

3. Frawley - improved incredibly last year and should improve some more next year. I have no doubt he will become one of, if not the best stopper in the game over the next few seasons. he also provides some pretty handy run out of defense

4. Moloney - he will provide most of the grunt in the middle next year with N. Jones supporting him. Moloney will be our chief extractor and will be crucial in getting the ball to the likes of Sylvia, Davey and Morton

5. Bate - Matthew finished off last year very well and I am hoping he can continue that form next year. he will be very important roaming around the HFF and drifting into the midfield next year. and hopefully get his goal tally into the 35 - 40 range

apologies

Green - will provide us with a useful target down forward or a classy clean mid.
Garland - injured last year but is incredibly important to the structure down back
Jurrah - the x factor every team loves
Jones - will improve his disposal again and hopefully get a few more goals
Bruce - now a vet of the team, runs hard all day and can be used all over the ground

Top 10 Best Players on our current list:
1. Davey
2. Sylvia
3. Garland
4. Green
5. Morton
6. Grimes
7. Frawley
8. Moloney
9. Warnock
10. Bruce

Top five untradables: Players who we couldnt do without if they are fit in the future.
1. Watts: KP Forward, no others to speak of ATM.
2. Scully: Ball winning midfielder, class.
3. Trengove : Mr Versatility, can fill gaps all over the place.
4. Garland: Ability to play on KPF and the smaller fast ones and shut them down.
5. Morton: Much like Trengove has heaps of versatility, when he puts on the muscle will cause match up headaches. Has the height and skills to dominate much like Adam Goodes.

1. Sylvia - He's the best player on our list and I expect him to be in the top 20 players in the competition next year. Now he's finally gotten a work ethic he should be unstoppable with the ability he has.
2. Davey - As the team gets better so will Davey. He isn't a downhill skiier as he won our B&F in a wooden spoon year but he is a receiver and the more of the ball we win, the more damaging he will be.
3. Frawley - Like a few others I really think he'll step up again next year. I don't think he'll hit his peak just yet but he'll be a very good defender. Love the way he can provide rebound as well as shut down his man.
4. Green - People have forgotten how versatile and important this man is. I hope he plays up forward next year where not only will he provide a good option but he'll also put a lot of pressure on inside 50.
5. Beamer - Will continue his good consistent form and be a key part of our midfield in 2010.

Agree 100% with that.

I'm liking the fact that Green is getting some respect here. Often forgotten, but when he is playing well a vital cog in our team. Will still be around when we are contenders, hopefully giving a similar output to Brad Johnson.

I think Green, Bruce, Rivers and Moloney are all in our top 10 players, I just choose not to pick them as I was looking towards our top 5 who will/should move up a gear and improve next year.

Whereas the 4 mentioned above will not drastically improve next season IMO

I can understand why you put Bruce in that category but Brad Green is a quality player who would be amongst the better players in any other side imo.

Plenty of touches, runs the lines, can play back, forward or middle, takes marks and kick goals.

Very damaging player imo.
