Noted in the HS on saturday the responses to Mikes top 50. Surprised to see more than one person think Garry Ablett jnr did not warrant spot. Are we getting carried away or is the rest of the football world just not seeing enough of the cats to make a correct judgement. Personally I think he should have been higher and I think next year he will be in the top 20.

The responses were much better than the article itself. 2 of them were very pro-cats, and one of them about brisbane being $1.20 for the flag, i'm sure i read the exact same thing either here or cats claw....

The thing with Gaz is that everyone knows his best is still yet to come. I think his ranking was actually about right for what he has proved so far, yet I know that he will prove his value to be much higher in the future.

You only have to watch the tapes of matches he has ripped apart in the course of a quarter of football to know that he is definitely in the top 50 players.

Ling was ahead of Kirk but Mike wanted Kirk in the all aussie team last year and not Ling. Very similar players.

How about Mal Michael being rated higher than Scarlett? What a joke!

Usually in the letters to Mike in saturdays Hun he answers each letter.Am I right in saying he didn't answer any of the top 50 letters ?

If so,what was the pointing of asking for letters ?

Ablett's a great player thus far but not top fifty yet. That would perhaps change, however, if he ever got a regular run on the ball, which is where his most damaging performances (Essendon, Carlton, bar perhaps his 4 against the Dogs) have been.

I though Mikes top 50 was pretty good, i did a similar one myself and geez its hard.

Michael ahead of Scarlett is just wrong no doubt, but its a hard thing to do, i had Ablett in my top 50 and think he deserves it.

Anyway i didn't have to many problems with it overall.

della!

i think the biggest issue in terms of geelong is bartel not making it, it is his predictions for the coming year and if bartel is not in the top 50 then ill be ********ed. he finished top 15 or so in the brownlow in his third year and should definately improve.

I agree, just a huge fan of Jimmy. Had a setback early last season but it appears to have done him the world of good. I think he may have just got a bit ahead of himself. Mike Sheahan appears to rate the mercurial player a lot higher than the hard worker who can be just as or even more valuable to the team. Hard in and under, tough as nails, good overhead (even spectacular at times), penetrating kick although could improve accuracy a little. Not overly quick, a bit like Creswell or Ratten but better overhead. With risk of being howled down i would rate him slightly ahead of Gazza, although Gary has been more consistent overall and has a tough of magic (i.e. the ability to turn nothing into something) which tends to grab Mike's attention more ( the excitement factor).

I too thought Jimmy should be in the top 50 and hopefully will be by year's end. Also think Steve Johnno, Kel and Tenace wil be pushing for a spot in the next year or two.
