Cut and Paste from my reply to a similar topic a few months ago:

1 Melbourne (Hunger, ability)
2 Brisbane (Hunger, ability)
3 Essendon (Less Hunger, ability)
4 Kangaroos (Rebuilding but Carey to drag them up)
5 Richmond (Finally!!!!)
6 St.Kilda (So much new talent and Blight factor)
7 Sydney (Kelly, O'Laughlin and Eade)
8 Carlton (Lost too much)

This is a hallucination and these faces are in a dream. A computer generated environment; a fantasy island you can do anything and not have to face the consequences.

CJH,
Forgive me if this has been debated previously, but your comment about St Kilda ?
The "new talent" consists of:-
Capuano - A very handy player if he can stay injury-free, but no champion.
Gehrig - Also injury question mark, and he is one of those who consistently fails to deliver to his potential.
Hamill - Good ordinary player, who is sometimes found wanting when the pressure is on.
Voss - Average player at best.
Callaghan - as above.

I would be interested to hear the thoughts of the St Kilda supporters on this. Obviously they are excited and hoping for big things, but an objective assessment stll shows them trailing the field I think. The Blight factor of course must be considered.

Sainters to make the 8, Brissy being the only interstaters (with Drum, Ayres and Judge getting the axe), Esadun, Norf, the Scraggers, the Elliots, the Gutnicks and the Cats to make up the rest (the Cats going out in the first week of the finals).

The Saints recruits appear to be overrated but do add alot more depth to a team that already had some pretty decent talent and under reasonable coaches was a egular finalist.

Here's mine. I always pick a couple of surprises. Too many people, I feel, choose the same teams as the year before.

1. Essendon
2. Sydney
3. North Melbourne
4. St.Kilda
5. Richmond
6. Carlton
7. Brisbane
8. Melbourne

9. Hawthorn
10.Fremantle
11.Geelong
12.Port Adelaide
13.Western Bulldogs
14.Adelaide
15.West Coast
16.Collingwood

There is always a team that takes a big slide. The Bulldogs contended for the premiership in 1997-98-99 and in 2000 they slipped. I expect them to tumble out of the 8 in 2001. I expect Richmond and Sydney, who have two of the smartest young coaches in the game to make up for just missing in 2000.

Rumours of the Kangaroos demise have been greatly exaggerate. As long as Denis the Menace is there, they will be up in the preliminary finals as usual. Carlton have too much talent to slip out of the 8.

Blighty always has an immediate impact at his new clubs. Expect the same with St.Kilda. Exepct West Coast and Adelaide with their two incompetent coaches to miss the 8. Won't that be great !!!!!

At the end of the home and away season.

1 Essendon {Clearly the best team in the competition and the benchmark. Hunger for continued success, a factor?}
2 Melbourne {Another good team, but I'm not sure they have the personnel to win the GF next year. Definitely a top four position!}
3 Brisbane {Has a very good list, which I believe is better than last year. Has several injury-prone players though, which has cost it at vital times in the finals. Scott, McRae, Voss, Keating, Black in 1999 and Scott, Bradshaw, Keating, McRae, in 2000.}
4 Hawthorn {Good in all areas, including coaching and will improve significantly on 2000}
5 Kangaroos {Still a good list, Carey still there. At last recruiting some young blokes. However Bell, Capuano, Pike among others will be losses. Don't know about Sav Rocca.}
6 Sydney {Very unlucky not to figure in the finals last season.}
7 St.Kilda {Far, far better list than last year. Any team with Harvey, Burke, Loewe, Everitt, Hamill, Gehrig, Capuano, Lawrence, B. Voss, plus a few other stalwarts should be a final eight contender.}
8 Richmond {will make the eight, just! List is roughly the same standard as last year}
---------------------------------------------
Chances for Positions 5-8 perhaps.
9 Carlton {on the decline, Hamill gone, Bradley who played well last year possibly gone, Silvagni injured}
10. Geelong {reasonable list, could challenge for a spot in the eight. Thompson should get the most out of them and wouldn't surprise if finished higher.}
11. Fremantle {Should improve slightly from last year}
12. Western Bulldogs {will struggle}
13 Adelaide {May finish higher. If not, Ayres could be in trouble.}
14. Collingwood {Rebuilding}
---------------------------------------------
No chance for the eight (in my opinion).
15 Port Adelaide {Will improve in future years}
16 West Coast {Will struggle badly. Can't see who they might finish above, given their list.}

There's a hell of a lot of wishing going on without looking realisticaly at the clubs.
Definately a strong Victorian hope that the Eagles and Adelaide are finished ( how dare they win four out of the last ten flags
wink.gif
)but we'll throw in Brisbane or Sydney into our 8 (or both) to make sure we don't look totaly biased.
Well make your beds guys cos you've got to sleep in them! and when the Eagles and Adelaide come around kicking butts this will be a nice thread to resurect.

Royloin ,the eagles will struggle due to their list i think you need to study the list again
it is by no means the worst list in the afl.
With the exception of the bombers,dee's and maybe carlton and roos who have both lost some good players i beleive the other 12 teams are about even on the talent scale and this can be shown by the percentage's ,because now days you can win a lot of games but a lot of the time it is the percentage that will get your team into the top 4 or the top 8 postition that is how even the comp is becoming.
